The Battle of Antietam September 17, 1862. This was the bloodiest single day in American history. Men were buried in shallow and mass graves after serving their states valiantly. Southerners refer to This day as the Battle of Sharpsburg. See the TX and GA monuments in the “Cornfield”as well as the Bloody Lane and Burnside Bridge. Never Forget!

Thus far, research has narrowed the identification of the four remains to 21 or 22 individuals who “likely died during the period when the (Union-operated) hospital” was caring for the Confederate dead and dying after the Battle of Williamsburg on May 5, 1862. The original list contained 59 names and their units.
Recently discovered bodies in Williamsburg could have been any of these men- our Brothers

Clean a monument!
June 19, 1864 Battle of Cherbourg France. The CSS Alabama was sunk by the USS Kearsarge. But not without a fight. This shot is still embedded in the side of the Kearsarge today at the Navy Yard. Both the quality of the powder and the coal were thought to have played a part in the Alabama’s loss. The British yacht the Deerhound rescued many in the crew including Captain Semmes. Unfortunately David White a slave from Delaware, who had been freed by Captain Semmes, from a Yankee ship, drowned that day. He is forever immortalized in the sea.
Today is the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Brandy Station. This remains the largest Cavalry engagement in North America. Real History!
“On Friday, June 5th, and later on June 8th, Stuart conducted massive cavalry reviews near Culpeper. Hood's Division attended both events; General Lee attended the latter.
A Southern soldier-reporter in Hood's Division said of the June 5th equestrian spectacle, "It was an imposing sight. One hundred and forty-four companies passed in review in the most splendid order. I counted twenty-six stands of colors, exclusive of those belonging to Stuart's horse-artillery. After the review there was a sham fight, in which the artillery fired over one hundred and sixty rounds, and the cavalry made several brilliant charges. The horses were generally good, and everything indicated a good degree of discipline. Many ladies, blooming in health and beauty, were present. Gen. Hood marched his whole division out to witness the review." Robert Lee Hodge
