After seeing the actor au for Voltron and @avatarsymbolism and I’s conversation, I decided to make one for ATLA:
The cast is one big happy family
Sokka and Katara are brother and sister, while Zuko and Azula are not (though they act like it)
Katara never auditioned for her part and had never acted before but when she went in to read lines with Sokka, the directors loved her so much they casted her on the spot
Toph is actually blind and her scripts are all written in braille
Both Aang and Toph are child actors and Iroh is the most well known. The rest (excluding Katara) all dabbled in having minor parts on other shows
The cast keeps an “honor count” to see how many times they can get Zuko to say honor on set (it’s well past 100)
They also have a war to see who can mess up the most while filming
The special effects team loves to play jokes on the cast too. When Zuko pretends to firebend, farting sounds come out instead. Safe to say everyone dies laughing
After their first kiss on screen, Sokka and Suki started to date off set
Aang adopted a dog and cat, naming them Appa and Momo respectively
At comic con, Toph loves to spread around rumors when asked questions
And as a joke at comic con, they like to cosplay a different character from the show, ie. Zuko as Sokka, Katara as Azula….
Zuko and Azula have to wear contacts. Her eyes are brown, while his are blue
Even after the show ended, everyone stayed great friends and hang out regularly for coffee and tea
Also, under heavy make up, Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Aang, and Toph all guest starred as their older selves on Legend of Korra
My favorite Kataang moments is the Avatar North and South comic. Aang and Katara with Hakoda is beautiful because it’s shows a real fathers love for his daughter and the real supportive love of Her and Aang. Hakoda still being kind to Aang and showing unconditional love is what real families do for each other.
*Katara driving everyone home*
Katara: So how was your day?
Sokka: We almost got surprised adopted.
Katara: What?
Toph: We almost got kidnapped.
Katara: Oh, okay.
Katara: *slamming on the brakes* WAIT, WHAT?
TW: gun
She would've been unstoppable if she got her dawgs on these bad boys

I love Zuko and Azula as characters, but I'll be damned if I say they deserve more sympathy than the people their family oppressed.
Need I remind you that at a point, all of your fire nation faves agreed that the colonisation and genocide of the air nomads, Southern water benders, and dragons were completely justified. Even if zuko and Iroh saw the error in their actions, it still doesn't erase the fact.

Avatar: La leyenda de Aang
Katara fue llevada de su tribu por la nación de fuego (No Zuko), y a pesar de que apenas era una novata no maestra agua sin entrenamiento y en un nivel muy bajo, escapó del barco luego de algunas semanas en alguna parte del recorrido de barco. El lugar en el que escapó ya no estaba rodeado de hielo, y ya no sabía donde estaba. Comienza a moverse sin saber hacia adónde, aunque quisiera volver con su hermano sabe que realmente ella no es de mucha ayuda, no sabe pelear muy bien y su control en el agua es muy torpe, decide muy tercamente que puede moverse hacia el norte e intentar encontrar a la otra tribu agua que queda, y así quizás conseguir un maestro que pueda enseñarle. El destino decide poner muchas rocas en su camino y termina teniendo muchas peleas, heridas, robos... Y no está muy orgullosa de muchos de ellos, pero puede asegurar que todo es por un propósito y fue aprendiendo algunas cosas de todo lo que paso, ya no seguirá siendo débil. El fuego quemo su cuerpo y varias armas lo cortaron, pero ella se mantuvo firme y huyó en cuanto pudo, manteniendo en su corazón el collar que ahora no sólo le recuerda a su madre, sino que a todo su pueblo, su padre, su hermano, su gran gran, las pocas mujeres adultas y los pocos niños y niñas que fueron quedando solos. Su cabello se recortó en el camino, pues el fuego lo fue chamuscando con los encuentros, pero ella siguió adelante y le comenzó a crecer de nuevo, hasta que se encontró con el hielo una vez más. (Pudo encontrar a alguien que compartía su dolor de la separación, luego de pelear y mostrar todo lo que tenía) Aprendió a curarse a si misma y a los demás, y luego volvió a salir. Su pensamiento en su familia, su hermano. Estrujando en su corazón con dolor el pensamiento real de haber abandonado a su hermano para que protegiera a la aldea solo, un solitario guerrero y sin respaldo. Su resolución la empuja a patinar sobre el hielo y luego crear el propio cuando es sólo líquido. Ella es más poderosa ahora, ahora puede demostrar que es una verdadera maestra agua, y nada ni nadie impedirá que regrese a defender lo que más ama. Y como se equivocó. Cruzó en su camino dificultades tan grandes como su propio crecimiento, dificultades en su mente y su corazón. En un bosque rodeada de plantas y árboles gigantes siguiendo la ilusión de su hermano herido. Y luego una titiritera de la muerte que sólo obligó a su cuerpo a doblarse y su alma a romperse. Aprendió más de lo que pensaba, se volvió maestra de otro elemento. Su alma estaba quebrada ante la confianza destrozada a alguien que le hizo pensar que era de la familia, pero sólo junto sus pedazos y continuó su camino, sus dedos no controlarán la vida de nadie más. (Se susurro una y otra vez las primeras noches) No llego a su hogar, pero se detuvo, se detuvo a pesar de todo. Se estancó en una aldea abandonada por todo y todos. La nación del fuego controlando las pobres vidas de hombres, mujeres, niños y ancianos por igual, y ella no pudo soportarlo. Allí decidió esconder su nombre y volverse la dama pintada. ________________ Zuko en algún momento de su viaje de redención cruza está aldea y se encuentra con La dama pintada y no puede creerlo. Quizás se vuelven a encontrar cuando él estuviera bajo su máscara azúl. ____________ Vuelven a encontrarse en Ba Sing Se, cuando el grupo del Avatar está buscando su Bisonte Volador y Zuko se encuentra en medio de una redención apoyado por su tío. Katara no ve a su hermano con el Avatar y sólo ayuda los anillos inferiores de Ba Sing Se ya que nadie más lo hace. Se encuentra con un muchacho llamado Jet que realmente sólo la hace enojar, porque interrumpe su trabajo e intenta coquetear intentando convencerla de hacer cosas que ella no quiere hacer. Y nadie más la va a obligar á hacer cosas que no quiere. ____________ No podía darle la espalda a las personas que me necesitaban, personas que necesitaban la ayuda que cualquiera estuviera dispuesto a dar. Y no había nadie que intentará o pudiera detenerme. ____________ Armas de Sokka - Garrote - Hoja
de mandíbula - Machete - Espada ________ La guerra se comió a una chica / No puedes / Soy damisela / Pensé mi alma / "Me sacaron del mar. Y la sal, nunca salió de mi cuerpo ..." / El mar es cruel, entonces yo soy más cruel. ___________ “Acabo de ver morir al hombre que amo… la peor parte es que nunca le dije que lo amo; ni una sola vez" __________ Calcular donde está Katara cuando muere Yue en el Polo Norte. (Ella llora a la luna, porque el cielo se baña en sangre y su conección con el agua se esfuma de su consciencia) (Final alternativo: Ella siente la pérdida, el espíritu de la Luna murió y algo dentro de ella la está empujando a la ira incontrolable, la furia en todo su esplendor, doblando agua sin una luna presente, las olas bailando con furia a su alrededor y las lágrimas irreconocibles. El vacío en su pecho y su cuerpo en sincronía con el dolor. Ella se mueve de nuevo por donde vino, las telas oscuras en su cuerpo queman mientras las aguas que se volvieron turbias, enfrían su carne. Ella no se detiene, es la fuerza de un pequeño vínculo de familiaridad con el dolor de todo el océano (Y la conexión con el espíritu también). Su cuerpo se funde con el agua, y no estaba muy lejos del norte, sus malas señales no le permitían alejarse tanto los últimos días, ahora siente el porqué. Sus ojos brillan azules, y en su frente una media luna que mira hacia el cielo, hacia la luna por la que llora, se hace presente. Sus manos se mueven sobre el agua como sino fueran parte diferente del elemento, y sus piernas bailan una danza tan mortal como los deseos de venganza bañados en dolor. Apunta con su dedo anular hacia el cielo y toda el agua se eleva por los barcos de metal antes de empujarlos contra el muro de hielo. Ella camina hacia el borde. Y todo el agua salta sobre el muro.) ___________ (Los pedazos rotos que guardo en mi bolsillo tienen filo) (Por la forma en que miras a la luna me doy cuenta de que no es a ti a quien buscas en tu viaje)
I watched Avatar for the first time! So good man
”Aang is the one who reminds Katara to be a kid” PUT SOME RESPECT ON TOPH’S NAME!!! Toph brings out Katara’s inner child, not the sunshine rainbow flower crown inner child, but her internal gremlin. Her pettiness and violence and self-centered mischief. Aang is a ride-or-die friend sometimes, but when they’re together, Katara’s priorities are always 1) the state of the world and 2) Aang himself. Like she can be playful but she’s never really distracted from her sense of responsibility.
With Toph, Katara prioritizes much more childlike things, like having the last word in an argument, and whether her friends think she’s cool, and laughing in a day spa, and petty revenge. Only Toph can drag Katara down to her level of immaturity and I think that’s beautiful
