theres this wnba player who is clearly gay (like butch, tats, tongue piercing, publicly-had-a-gf gay), but recently a vid of her saying “im gay” got popular and a few people were like “omg shes for the girls !!” and people would reply like “uhhh yeah!? it was kinda obvious”
on like one hand i agree, walks like a duck etc
but also theres a a certain impact about someone existing as gay vs. saying “im gay”
i had no doubt she was queer but hearing her say it gives me butterflies (literally everytime i see the vid and not just cuz i may have a crush) because ive gotten to the point in my journey where i feel so normal being wlw that i kinda forget straight ppl exist so seeing celebs date women was like really awesome but also well yeah???? but hearing someone say the words im gay!? like youre like me!? im not alone!?
liking girls is one thing. love is natural, banal.
being gay in the world? having that label on you? thats a walking target,
but its also a community
hearing someone you admire claim themselves as part of it feels soooo good
i love that were getting to a point where coming out is desuetude and gay ppl can just exist but its nice to hear the pride and outright claiming of the label
