Reason 1 to finish your manuscript:
You can’t read fanfiction of your work unless you, actually, y’know, finish and publish it.
Just to add, AO3 has such a great tag system that I haven't seen in other websites. You can literally filter out all of the stuff that makes you uncomfortable and don't want to read. And it's so easy to use.
God knows the amount of stuff I filter out because they either make me uncomfortable or are just not my cup of tea; Be it either something potentially triggering or just a shipp I'm not into. It's fucking amazing, we can go straight for the stuff we love. From filtering out the ones we don't want to see, to going straight to our favorite ones.
Please, use the tag system, it exists for that very reason. And for the few fics the slip through the filtering for lack of proper tags? Just ignore them. Hell, you can even mute writers. So just keep swimming!
AO3 is such a precious gift made from fan to fan, so let's cherish it properly instead of using it for hate. It's like a buffet from the Gods; Take your favorite food and ignore the ones you don't like to eat. Cuz' you don't stop in the middle of a restaurant just to point at the food you don't like and, what? Fight the cooks for having cooked them??? NO!! You let them cook! AND EAT YOUR FAVORITE FOOD!! CUZ THEY HAVE THAT TOO!!
heard someone say archive of our own should install a "dislike" button and I thought I should say this: no, there's absolutely no need for archive of our own to install a "dislike" button.
why? because archive of our own isn't tiktok or youtube or twitter/x where users can monetize their content. archive of our own is a nonprofit site run by fans for fans, which means every content — every fanfic — you see on archive of our own was made out of pure love and passion from the artists/authors.
ao3 authors write because writing about these characters is their happiness and passion. they write for themselves, but they were generous enough to share with you their creations.
they're not "content creators" the way tiktokers or youtubers or instagram models are. they don't "make content" for views and engagements that can be monetized.
so no, you don't get to "grade their works" unless they specifically and directly ask you to.
you don't get to "say what you dislike about their works" unless they specifically and directly ask you to.
you don't get to "dislike" works that are not made specifically to please you in the first place. you're just a guest in someone's house, a house in which they let you in because they were kind, you don't get to roam around their house and say what you dislike about their furniture. you don't get to roam around their house and say you "dislike their house".
of course, you can have your opinion about the house its host invites you in. but if it's a negative one and you find yourself not liking the house, the polite things for you to do is excuse yourself and leave without telling them you dislike their house.
and just because you personally dislike the house doesn't mean the house is "ugly" either. the house you dislike could be a favorite, most luxurious place to many others.
my point is, don't be entitled by wanting the rights to voice your disapproval of things that you get to enjoy for free. don't be entitled by wanting the rights to voice your disapproval of things that were made out of love and passion — things the artists made for themselves for fun.
it makes you look like an entitled jerk with main character syndrome. the universe does not revolve around you.
now repeat after me: don't like don't read. no one forces you to continue reading a fic you don't like. quietly leave instead of being rude to authors who write for free because writing is their source of comfort.
people are so used to contents that were made because it's a trend / contents like tiktok that were made with the main purpose of reaching high engagement and making profits that they forget sometimes things can be made out of love and be made just for fun. sometimes things are supposed to just be for people to enjoy, and if some people don't enjoy them, then they can simply leave without being unnecessary unkind.
So I just used ChatGPT for feedback for a writing piece. Just pasted the piece in and said 'critique this piece please'. (I have no-one else to get feedback from who I want to read this).
Since when is AI so.......so? ;-;
(I don't agree with AI being a replacement for a real person, this was just a spur of 'I want feedback').

i think it's so funny when I remember that, once, someone commented on one of my fanfics asking to repost it in russian (im brazilian, just to make sense why i was like 🥺), and to me that was one of the most amazing things anyone has ever commented. yes, folks, leave comments on the fanfics you read because it's absolutely wonderful

I'm giggling and kicking my feet while imagining two fictional people getting together and slowly finding real love in each other and working through their trauma- and then one of them dies. Suddenly. Preferably, the other was blackmailed to kill them, or they died to save the other. And now the one who's left can never fully heal, but can never go back to how they were before that person changed their life, and slowly fade away. Maybe they spend the rest of their life trying to find out who killed their love, to no avail. Maybe the pain just eats at them so much that they let the hollow feeling consume them.
This is so fun. (What is wrong with me?)

The two brothers are Hino Ken'ichi and Hino [REDACTED], codename: "Venus".
Venus is the older brother who used to take Ken on rides and basically raised him because their parents were pretty much non-existent.
One day at about age ten, Ken'ichi and Venus' motorcycle disappears and despite all efforts, he and the vehicle can't be found, with Venus' helmet being the only thing discovered. Ken is pronounced dead, assumably having crashed or something else while trying to escape the organization.
Almost a decade passes before one day, Venus sees a older teen sat on what is definitely his old bike with another teen sat behind him. The teen (which he recognizes as Jaxon Finch, who is a junior detective from The PAIA) calls him "Hino".
And Venus knows the voice of the teen driving, it's a little grown up but he'd know it anywhere.
His brother is alive and working with the enemy.

Tal vez sería una buena idea escribir algo de los hermanos Donquixote en espanol con su proximidad a Espana con su reino de Dressrosa. Well, this feels somewhat redundant. Ain’t no way I’ll lack any words in my native language, right? Spewing big words right now just for me to fall on my face in a few sentences, I’m calling it. Either way this English is far too colloquial in comparison to my texts for the other languages. I should adopt a far more refined writing style and write a little more like a posh lady. Should I even keep going? Like if we look at the chapters to my fanfictions over on AO3 and my twitch livestreams I do think I have a talent for never shutting the fuck up. Then again I do study philosophy, so I guess I’m just well-suited to my own field of study. Oh yeah, I guess considering that this is written English and stuff I shouldn’t abbreviate apostrophes and stuff. Oh well, too bad. Deal with it! English really is the easiest for me to write in. I’m somewhat dreading having to do German next. I always feel like the German I write is [STOP]

Okay, dann versuche ich das doch mal. Ich habe bereits angefangen eine Geschichte in Deutsch zu schreiben, allerdings kann ich jetzt nicht wirklich sagen ob die besonders gut geworden ist oder nicht. Als ich versucht habe, sie meiner Familie zu schicken, kamen nur Rückmeldungen von wegen die Datei wäre ein Virus und dass sie das dann nicht lesen wollten. Auch toll. Da fühle ich mich seither auch irgendwie ein bisschen blöd. Ist ja nicht so dass sie es mutwillig nicht gelesen haben, aber irgendwie fühle ich mich damit ein wenig deprimiert und will ihnen die Geschichte jetzt gar nicht nochmal schicken. Kommt ja eh irgendwie immer negatives Feedback zurück, das brauche ich jetzt auch nicht wirklich. Wow, also irgendwie klappt das ja richtig gut im Deutschen! Gut, so Anglizismen wie „feedback“ kann ich jetzt nicht ganz vermeiden, aber das hört sich ja auch einfach blöd an wenn ich das jetzt auf Gedeih und Verderb ins Deutsche reinpresse. Benutzt man diese Redewendung so? Keine Idee. [STOP]
Well, „keine Idee“ is a literal translation of “no idea” so that’s definitely not German, stopping myself right there.
I look forward to continuing my language studies and revisiting this challenge in the future!

The villain smiled devilishly through the tugging and pulling of the chains; a smile that the hero knew all too well. As the high pitched screeching of chain against stone filled the dreaded air with anticipation as the villain was being brought to his execution, the hero stopped dead in their tracks.
"Halt."
The guards containing the villain in their hold abruptly stopped and turned around, briefly glancing at each other before shrugging.
"What's the matter?" One asked in a voice that was muffled through the helmet.
"I want a word with him alone."
"But the Royal Highness is awaiting his execution, just like you both agreed."
The hero shot a glare full of daggers at the guard.
After a brief moment of hesitation, the guard shrugged, taking a step back.
Clank, the chains dropped.
And heavy thumps were heard as both guards walked a little distance away.
Turning their attention to the pitiful excuse of the former villain, they growled, "What are hiding? I know you're hiding something.."
The villain simply chuckled and gave a cocky smile as they turned their head up, almost as if challenging the hero to make them say it. "For me to know, and you to find out~" They simply whispered.
"Don't play sly with me!" The hero harshly whispered, "I beat your ass and could've killed you myself had I not made the agreement with the Queen to publicly execute you in front of her!"
The villain sighed, "You always spoke with too many words. Is my plan really not that easy to see?"
He smirked to himself, "Perhaps I really did out-do myself."

"I can't make it seem like you guys are having fun here!" He exclaims.
