Have you ever tried adding some thin apple slices to a sandwich with vegetable, cheese, and/or meat, if you can have those together? A little bit of thin apple in a savory sandwich adds a little bit of crunch, without making shrapnel like potato chips become; it also adds just enough sweetness to add some complexity to the sandwich, without fighting the other flavors.
