Lily holds her arms out slightly towards Dawnbreaker, hoping to make it so he won't feel bad if he refuses her invitation.

"Would you like a hug?"

His eyes light up briefly at the prospect of physical comfort.

"...Yes, I would."

He steps towards her, enveloping her in a gentle embrace to avoid causing her any discomfort, despite his wishes. He leans his forehead on her shoulder, closing his eyes.

Lily beamed as she watched him place the book on the shelf, proud of her choice when seeing how perfectly fit in. While she was relatively confident that he'd like it, she still had that little inkling of doubt that could finally be silenced.

She stood when he did, humming happily as she followed him to the door. "You don't have to worry about giving me anything in return." She reassured, even waving a hand dismissively. "You look out for me, so that's the least I can do in return." She insisted, nodding to his instruction. She'll do her best, if nothing else!

Routine appointments with Zayne were common, to make sure that Lily's heart wasn't suddenly deciding to rebel against her. However, she was more eager than usual for this appointment to end. Once they had finished the usual routine and she would normally be getting ready to leave, she instead reached into the bag she'd brought with her for running her errands for the day.

"Oh! Before I go, I have something for you." She chirps, pulling out what seemed to be a book, and setting it on his desk. She was ever careful not to cover any paperwork or anything, and made sure that it wasn't in his way either. The book was in various shades of blue with some gold accenting to it, and no words on either cover or the spine. If he opens it, he'd find that it's a fake book, and inside are a few baggies with sweets in them, including some homemade cookies.

Zayne almost stands up to walk her to the door, but her announcement makes him stay seated. He looks at the book, curious, then looks back up at her.

"What's the occasion?" He raises an eyebrow.

Looking at it, he notices all the details, surprised and grateful for such a gift. Seeing no markings on it, he brings it closer to him to open it. It's then that he sees it's a box.

The sight of sweets makes him smile.

"You didn't have to... Thank you." He picks one of the bags, studying its contents. "These look delicious. Did you make them yourself?"

He feels his mouth already watering, wishing his break was sooner so he could eat them without having to wait.

"I tend to be good at making sense." She teased playfully, looking up at him with a smirk.

His question makes her hum, expression softening. "I don't know... But I hope so."

As much as it hurt to not be certain, no matter how much she wanted to insist that they'd see each other again, she couldn't bear the thought of insisting so confidently and then not being able to follow through, whether it was by her choice or not. But she meant what she did get to say, genuinely hoping that they could see each other again. It looks like she has a lot of hugs to make up for!

"Try to take care of yourself until then, okay?" She requested, her tone gentle as she reached up to cup his cheek.

Lily watched eagerly as Zayne investigated the gift, settling her bag back on her shoulder. His questioned earned a small giggle and a shake of her head. “No occasion. I found the book while I was out running errands the other day, and it made me think of you. Then I got the idea that you could use it as a secret sweets stash if you wanted, and it spiraled a little.” She admitted, her tone turning more sheepish towards the end of her explanation.

“I made the cookies yesterday, but the rest of it is just store bought.” She answered easily, having found a small selection of various sweets that seemed like something he’d be willing to try at least once.

“Well...” Lily started, her thumb absently tracing a few of the scars visible on his hand as she spoke, “Anyone can be intimidating, in the right circumstances. Even more so to people who don’t know them.” She hummed softly. She doubts that she looks terribly approachable when she’s actively armed for battle, after all.

Any further reassurances she had ready for him were derailed by his counter, her face flushing pink again. She still found herself giggling though, giving his hand a small squeeze in ‘retaliation’. “And you, sir, are proving my point.” She teased playfully as she looked up at him.

Lily beamed when seeing him get flustered, even if she ended up not being too much better. "Well, you also don't get to see your own reactions," She pointed out casually. "so you don't get to see how cute they are. And with how stoic you are otherwise, it just makes it all the better."

Why yes at this point she can't help but tease him a little more.

She was perfectly content to lean into him, only moving enough to take one of his hands into her own so she could play with it, both as further evidence that she's happy to have this contact with him, and to resist the urge to keep poking at his face.

Lily wasn't the slightest bit concerned by having his hand by her face still, even shutting her eyes when he reached closer again. She let out a small, appreciative hum when feeling him fixing her hair, opening her eyes again in time to catch his attempt at looking impressed.

Beaming proudly, she couldn't help but snicker a little, more than happy to help make it easier for him. "I know, I know. But it's fun to tease you." She admitted honestly, happily letting herself be even slightly squished by his tightened grip. "You have fun reactions, even if they're subtle."

She scrunched her nose up playfully when he returned the boop, wiggling her nose for further emphasis. She couldn't help but think how it's almost funny how he's clearly endured so much and come out the other side, only for him to be seemingly baffled by such simple affections.

Almost. It's still far more heartbreaking.

"You don't have to worry about hurting me, I'm not that fragile." She attempted to reassure, even playfully flexing to show off what little visible muscle she has that still pales in comparison to his own build.

Once she was done stretching, Lily hummed and leaned against his side. They may be done with the hug, but she still wants to be affectionate!

Letting out a hum to show she heard when he said that the hug would last him a lifetime, she tilted her head back some so she could reach up and very gently boop his nose.

"I just wish that I could do more for you." She answered easily. "I wish that there was some way for me to make sure you get to relax more."

Lily took to quietly humming when he stayed quiet, wanting to fill the silence in hopes he wouldn't feel quite so awkward about the embrace. She was half tempted to start swaying them a little as if they were dancing, but that might be a bit too much, especially with how exhausted he seemed. While she wouldn't blame him for falling asleep like this... She's not entirely sure she could support his weight properly or move him anywhere more comfortable.

When he finally stepped back, she stretched out her arms so they wouldn't get too sore. Her smile didn't falter though as she looked up at him, biting back giggles. It's kind of cute, seeing such a big strong guy get awkward over something as simple as a hug.

Perking up slightly at the offer of chocolate, she did accept a piece, but gave him a very gentle nudge as she unwrapped it. "You don't need to repay me or anything, honest." She reassured. "I enjoyed it too, and I'm just glad I could give you a moment to relax, as short of a moment as it was."

Her eyebrows furrowed for a moment, wishing there was more she could do to comfort and support him, but she couldn't think of a single thing... Hopefully that hug will help at least a little bit for now.

Lily didn't mind him leaning on her more properly in the slightest, shutting her eyes as she continued to gently card her fingers through his hair. While she could tell he had needed the hug, she hasn't realized just how bad he needed it.

She's just happy she could provide him with some semblance of comfort.

"Of course." She hummed softly, an acknowledgement of his gratitude. "We can stay like this for as long as you need." She added, so he knows he won't have to move anytime soon if he doesn't want to.

She's rather comfy, holding on to him like this. The weight of his head against her shoulder and neck was just the right amount of squish for her without it being uncomfortable.

Lily couldn't help but giggle when he pressed his head into her hand, beginning to gently run her fingers through his hair, even occasionally using her nails to very gently scratch at his scalp. The cat-like behavior certainly didn't go unnoticed, endearing her all the more. If she didn't know any better, she'd half expect him to purr at this rate.

"It's not a bother at all. You're not a bother." She reassured, tilting her head against his for a moment. "I'm here to help however I can."

When he accepts the offer, Lily doesn't hesitate to return the hug. His caution to ensure she wouldn't be hurt or uncomfortable was appreciated, though she still did her best to give him a good squeeze. A little squishing is good for a person!

Letting out a small, content hum when he placed his head on her shoulder, her expression softened as she rubbed his shoulder. For a moment she debated if he'd appreciate it if she ran her fingers through his hair, or if he'd be off put by it. Deciding it best to test the waters, she moved one hand from his back to instead settle it on top of his head.

"You're more than welcome to ask me for a hug whenever you want one." She offered, keeping her voice quiet, almost a whisper.
