2020 is the year of baddies

At the risk of all my credibility as a person being thrown out the window because I genuinely enjoy Steven Universe, I need to say this.

The military in Steven universe doesn’t represent nazis. Genocide literally isn’t the theme of this children’s show. The only overarching theme related to actual militia is War Is Bad.

SU is about breaking cycles of abuse, not pulling yourself in a million directions to please those around you, and making your purpose in life to make yourself happy and surround yourself with supportive people who love you. It’s also about being critical of those you love, and sometimes supporting them while they actively try to change and grow from their pst mistakes.

Life on other planets being destroyed isn’t meant to represent some kind of active genocide. It’s individuality being stretched and worn out until only what the abuser (the diamonds, more specifically white diamond) wants to see and hear is left.

Steven isn’t some kid that wants to be buddy buddy with dictators, he’s a child that sees how his mother was beaten down and abused and wants to mend the bond with his family that couldn’t be fixed before new perspectives were brought into play.

Blue Diamond is a parent who swears she’s doing right by her child because tough love (emotional abuse) is necessary to protect them, Yellow Diamond is a parent who is afraid of anything out of the “ordinary” being a sign of her failure and so treats her child unjustly and gets physically abusive in order to “fix” the problem, White Diamond wants a clean slate, someone who will do and act as she says because of her own inferiority complex and the need for everything to always be perfect. These are all people that children & teens & adults have to deal with, and the biggest arc on the show being Steven demanding that everyone be treated as an individual deserving of love and growth is such a huge thing to show on television.

What widespread kids show have you ever seen so clearly outline abusive behaviors and the thoughts and feelings behind both victim and abuser? How many people do you think have been forced to realize they can and should be treated better, and maybe their own treatment of the people they love has been warped by their own abuse?

If you look at the show through this lense of healing and doing better by children, rather than the popular “Diamonds are Nazis” lense, the show is chock full of messages of self love, distancing your emotions not being a solution to every issue, and other related things.

THIS EPISODE WAS A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE FROM START TO FINISH

I MEAN

WE ALREADY KNEW IT WAS GOING TO START OFF WITH THE ZOMBIES

AND IT DID

BUT THE ZOMBIES, NAMELY CAROLINE, WERE ACTUALLY SIGNIFICANT TO ONE OF THE CHALLENGES

I REALLY LIKE THAT BECAUSE SOME MIGHT’VE VIEWED THE ZOMBIES ONLY BEING THERE TO CHASE AFTER THE GUESTS, BUT THEY HAD A PURPOSE

ANYWAY

I LOVED THE TEAMWORK THAT WAS GOING ON BETWEEN JOEY, MATT, AND NIKITA

I ALWAYS LOVE IT WHEN THE REMAINING 3 IN THE FINALE WORK TOGETHER BECAUSE YOU CAN REALLY SEE THEIR DETERMINATION TO GET OUT OF WHATEVER HELLHOLE THEY WERE TRAPPED IN UNTIL DAWN

I’M SO GLAD THEY GAVE A BIT MORE OF A BACKSTORY TO THE BLONDE WOMAN AND ASIAN MAN FROM THE SAE WHO NOW HAVE NAMES:

JAEL AND RYN

AND I DID NOT EXPECT THEM TO BE THE ONES BEING REVIVED

BUT THANK GOD THEY WERE

OR ELSE JOEY, MATT, AND NIKITA WOULDN’T HAVE MADE IT OUT

BUT WHEN THEY “DIED” FOR A SPLIT SECOND I WAS SO SHOOK LIKE HOW THEY GONNA COME BACK TO LIFE AND THEN DIE TWO SECONDS LATER SKSJSKSK (Nikita said the same thing about Matt lmao)

But then they came back and SLAYED THE CARNIVAL MASTER

ALSO (i say also a lot lol)

I WAS TALKING TO @team-detective-etn TWO (THREE?) DAYS AGO ABOUT THE VOTING CARDS HAVING WRITING ON THE BACK AND WHETHER THEY WERE SIGNIFICANT OR NOT

AND WE DISMISSED IT (well, technically it was my fault because the screenshots that showed the cards having writing on them only showed the words “with the power” and “the harp and strum it twice” and i assumed that it was about when the harp was used in bringing Matt back to life. my bad haha)

BUT APPARENTLY THEY WERE EXTREMELY SIGNIFICANT

IF IT WEREN’T FOR THE CARDS, JAEL AND RYN WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN BROUGHT BACK (the cards showed instructions on how to revive “fallen champions”)

Btw, when Joey, Nikita, and Matt read “fallen champions,” they were so shocked. They probably thought their friends were coming back and so did I

Speaking of Matt, HE DID SO MUCH FUNNY AND/OR STUPID STUFF THIS EPISODE

He was still hung over the fact that Teala didn’t do much in one of the older challenges anD HAD THE AUDACITY TO DISS HER EVEN THOUGH SHE’S DEAD

He then said ‘rest the dead’ or something like that lmao gET OUT

He really started telling Joey this whole story about how he’s good at tying knots bOY I LOVE YOU BUT HUSH

hE BARRICADED THE DOOR WITH A CHAIR TO KEEP THE ZOMBIES OUT (which was smart) BUT BACKFIRED ON JOEY

He got captured by the zombies real quick

Despite all this, Matt was still our favorite detective, he pulled his weight very, if not extremely, well this episode, he, in a sense, took care of Joey and Nikita, and, even though they were under a TON of pressure, found opportunities for some light-hearted humor and was super nice to Joey and Nikita (which was great considering the “beef” Matt and Nikita had)

Here are some of the last few things said by Joey, Matt, and Nikita before they got to ‘Escape the Night’ (I think it’s obvious who said what):

“Tonight I found the strength, this will to fight, and I think that’s something, even in a twisted way, that has been a gift from this town”

“I’m going to miss Manny”

“I’m going to miss Ro”

“I have one last person I need to save: Blanche”

“I never knew I had such good friends”

“What I want more than anything, at this point, is a way to make all the wrongs I did, right

Season 3 of Escape the Night wouldn’t be the same without all those wonderful people

And I thank them for all they’ve done

I’m a foster mother to 100 baby spiders

Okay so the other day I was taking the trash out and my nail caught on a spider egg sac!

Unfortunately it split open and all the little eggs came tumbling out and luckily landed in a box.

After getting them all in a glass, I was left with several questions, no answers and guilt! But I asked in a few spider groups and got a tutorial on making a spider incubator!

Sooo! We went through a few different stages of mini Orbeez

And by mini I mean REALLY mini!

But finally we started seeing development!

See the little white dot?! That’s a wee lil baby!

Then more started showing up!

Then the day came!! Little legs started showing up!!

And then!!!

Today I just went to look and!!

MY BABIES ARE HATCHING!
