here’s a retrospective stoned blerb about the minecraft movie (spoiler free):

honestly, it was okay. i liked how they really highlighted the importance of breaking standards and being creative in a society that punishes it, and how “gold” is what kills the spark for art. i thought the humour was stupid, but stupid enough to where i could laugh at/appreciate it. jack black was great as per usual. jennifer coolidge felt out of place and random but i thought her character was funny so i wasn’t necessarily mad at it. the cgi wasn’t phenomenal, but what can you expect from minecraft irl, i suppose. it could have been a lot worse. i liked the baby villagers. i thought the references were fun and it felt really nice to be apart of the audience. the plot was basically jumanji, but once again what can you expect. the pacing sucked ass, it was relatively hard to follow and it felt like a lot of conflict got solved in the most convenient ways possible. there were a lot of scenes that felt like they didn’t belong, or like they were in the wrong place. as far as game accuracy goes, there were moments where it was completely thrown out the window and times where they did it really well.

overall, i think it could have been better but i’m glad we got what we did. i wasn’t planning on watching the movie at all, but i’m glad my friends had an extra ticket so i could have the chance to see what it was all about. i think seeing it in theatres is what really made the movie for me, i’m not sure if i’d watch it on my own time.

my biggest issue is that jennifer coolidge didn’t play every villager.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.

do you ever forget there are people out there that genuinely believe they have the one and only solution to gender/sexuality and anyone who doesn’t see it that way is homophobic/transphobic despite the fact they themselves are pushing the same gender binary they claim to hate so much by separating men women and gender nonconformity into three distinct categories, essentially creating a traffic light system for how we should treat others based on one of the most insignificant aspect of themselves? because i did until this morning

i’m so tired of every single argument that revolves queerness or gender being so reliant on these heteronormative binaries that simply don’t make sense to apply to ourselves.

I'm going to say something so controversial and so brave right now-

queer fandoms have gotta stop acting like the only path to queer happiness is through a relationship. It's reductive and exclusionary. It's bad enough in a fandom context and worse when it bleeds into real life. Queer joy comes in many different forms and that's what makes it beautiful. Take your ship goggles off for a second and expand your horizons

this post was so pretentious, although my underlying point still stands 

saltburn is literally nothing like the media said it was. this is why film and art is dying. no one can sit down and watch a movie that makes them uncomfortable or have to think for more than five seconds.

“omgomgomgomg the bathtub scene im so traumatized oh my god” do you seriously not see the clear as day symbolism for Olivers obsession? it was a very easy way to show “hey, this guy is fucking unwell and you should probably keep an eye on his interactions”. the same bitches will turn around and say “cannibalism as a metaphor for love >”. you are missing the fucking point and you’re doing it on purpose.

also the fact it deals with queer themes is definitely apart of the reason there was so much backlash but thats a vent for a different day.

Did a 500 piece for a change of pace. Got it done in about 3 hours... Not that I was trying to be fast, but I got a point where it was coming together easy, so I decided to finish it.

I know there are puzzle competitions based on speed, I don't think I would do well with those. I have tried timing myself on smaller puzzles but it just makes it stressful and not fun.

You know what I think is really cool about language (English in this case)? It’s the way you can express “I don’t know” without opening your mouth. All you have to do is hum a low note, a high note, then another lower note. The same goes for yes and no. Does anyone know what this is called?

I think this is the first one I've done this year. I need to do more, but Ive been going hard on the sewing, because I want to sew down my stash. But I really do have a good collection of puzzles to work through as well.

I need balance.

most creators who do content surrounding service workers have like a few viral videos and then their notoriety swiftly fades. the only reason she has gotten so much attention is because people are desperate to take out their pent up frustration with the trans community, and especially trans women.

its also weird that every time someone “calls her out” they include the fact she’s trans in the title… like what does that have to do with literally anything? i don’t think all criticism of her is rooted in transphobia, but i do think feeling the need to bring her identity into things is.

here’s a hot take: Lily Tino wouldn’t be so “annoying and evil” if people were more accepting towards trans women. i can’t be the only one who can understand her frustration. as far as i’m aware, her only “crime” is getting upset when people misgender her. she probably wouldn’t be getting as upset as she does if there was a level of basic respect towards trans people. of course, a lot of the employees she’s getting upset with are very apologetic and will often times immediately correct themselves, but i think it’s totally fair for her to be like “…? seriously..? you can’t tell that i’m trying to present myself more femininely…?”

indeed it is. i agree that she can be annoying, but my issue is with people making documentary length commentary videos about her as if literally anything about her content would be interesting if it weren’t for her being a trans woman. i see her “inappropriateness” as obvious rage bait because she knows these transphobes are going to interact with her no matter what she posts.

making some trans girl as the focus point of a video and the worst thing the creator can say about her is “she said balls at disney land” is (imo) rooted in transphobia and the belief that trans women are predators, and they should probably reflect on what exactly bothers them about her so much.
