There is a sort of constant battle between the two of them to the degree that they are fighting, but they are taking care of one another. When the sugar goes on the cheek of Patrick, Art takes it off with his hand in a very nice gesture of kindness -- and very intimate, I would say. But at the same time, they are really tense. And I think it’s about being jealous of one another, but at the same time wanting one another.

still thinking about langdon's beef with santos and how she probably thinks it's an ego thing, but it's actually a You Broke The Rules thing, which she does multiple times (doesn't justify the way he yelled at her later, but it's hardly like it was out of nowhere, you know?)
the crike case really illustrates the point, too, because while santos generally has net positive results that shift, she could've killed that guy. it's why the present the case and clear stuff with a senior resident or attending is kind of important. and then!! she has the audacity to ask to do the crike lmao. having mel do the crike is very much a reestablishment of the seniority order there. if it had been just an ego thing, langdon would've done it himself, i think. instead it was more of a no you're an intern the second year resident will do this one take a seat.
i wouldnt be surprised to learn that langdon behaved similarly when he was an intern, and that he also was reprimanded for it. and if so, it'd also explain why he's such a stickler for that particular set of rules. especially so, id argue, because he has adhd and adhd also comes with a certain level of rigidity (in this case, relying heavily on an external rule to inhibit behavior). seeing santos break that rule more than once had kill bill sirens going in that man's head! and who knows if he would have blown up at her were it not for the whole drug habit on the verge of being discovered -- not unlike robby fumbling the confrontation with langdon later re: the drugs, since robby is having a shit day and the ptsd is running wild). was langdon being a hypocrite since he was, you know, breaking the rules by stealing drugs? absolutely. it adds to the robby parallels, our repression king.
and you wanna know what? this is why i think langdon is the one actually being set up to become santos's mentor.
