Birdrick fans who hate Diane will never cease to amaze me.

Rick and Birdperson's dynamic means something because Rick loved Diane first, and because he STILL loves her. His first love died tragically because of him (in his eyes) everyone he loves dies because he loves them and because his love can be used against him, that is a massive plot point and the whole reason why he mistreats his family and wouldn't even say "relationship" in regards to Birdperson.

Rick being able to cope with his trauma, move on, and admit that he loves another person, is a massive turning point for him. And even with Diane dead, even if he admits he loves Birdperson, he still loves her. That is a fact. He did not spend over 3 decades at *least* trying to avenge her death just for people to dislike her bc she ruins an mlm ship. He loves both of them. Diane is just not there to physically be loved.

You really water down what makes Birdperson such a huge turning point in Rick's life when you decide to ignore his trauma for the sake of him getting bird dick.

Found out that Rick is canonically a Bubbline shipper this week.

People really do not talk enough about how fucked up it is that Rick forces Morty to be responsible for his mental stability. Like that would be a lot for an adult, Morty is a 14-year-old kid. And he should not be responsible for anyone other than his own mental stability. Yet at times he's like Rick's caretaker. It just isn't fair to him at all. He's forced to take self care time away from himself so he can make sure Rick eats (Rickfending your Mort) make sure that he showers (Season 6 finale) and make sure that he actually does things (Rickfending your Mort...again) Rick going to therapy without anyone telling him to is a great step towards him taking responsibility for himself, but he still has a long way to go before he stops forcing responsibilities onto the already overwhelmed anxious boy. Like Morty is barely seen actually acknowledging and facing his trauma like Rick because Rick pushes WAYYYY too much responsibility on him, so instead of taking care of himself which Morty should do, he's forced to take care of Rick and is basically like a parent to Rick in some cases. It's just not fair. My boy deserves sm better

Rick pushing people away to protect them is genuinely heartbreaking. Anyone he loves either ends up dying, leaving him, or get put in danger because of him.

I believe he sees himself as a virus. Infecting anyone who gets too close. He hates that he cares about anyone. He wants to be like Rick Prime, he wants to not care about anyone to be by himself doing whatever he wants not being stopped by stupid things like "morality" and "emotions" apart of why he hates Rick Prime is because he's everything Rick wants to be, but can never bw. That also attributes to his self loathing, if you want to be like your worst enemy, the persin that killed your wife and ruined your life, what does that make you? Why does he wants to like someone he hates? That makes his a horrible person doesn't it?

Then in season 2 episode 10 "The Wedding Squanchers" he finally decides to openly show his love and support for Birdperson's marriage, showing that hes nothing like Rick Prime. Then What does he get as a reward for being vulnerable? For showing just how different he was for not being Rick Prime? Tammy shooting Birdperson right in front of him. He loved Unity and what happens? Unity left him, pushing Rick so far that he attemped. He loved Daphane and what happens then? Daphne leaving him when she had no use for him anymore. He loves Morty and what happens to Morty on a daily basis? He's constantly put in danger because of Rick. He loved Diane and what does he get? Seeing Diane blow up in front of him.

Thats why he's awful to Morty. He thinks that he needs to push Morty away to keep him safe. So he constantly insults Morty, hoping that he would eventually start believing what he's saying, hoping that he won't love Morty, hoping that Morty will distance himself so he won't get too close and end up getting hurt, but Morty stays and Rick is stuck. He wants to keep Morty safe, so he pushes him away but he also needs Morty and wants him to stay. But in his mind, people around him get hurt. That's why Healthy Rick was nice to Morty despite not caring about him. And why Toxic Rick treated Morty horribly despite caring about him. He's mean to him because he loves him, because he's terrified of losing him. Being harsh towards someone you love is a paradox, Ricks relationship with Morty is a paradox. He wants Morty to leave but needs Morty to stay.

Thats why he considers him caring about Morty irrational. It's inherently a paradox. He wants Morty to go and stay at the same time. He wants Morty to go to keep him safe. But he also loves Morty and just wants him to stay by him. It doesn't make sense for him to want two completely opposite things. To give such mixed messages. There were so many times where Morty wants to leave but Rick convinced him to stay. He wants Morty to leave so Morty will stay safe. But he genuinely could not imagine (nor does he want to) being without Morty. Morty is such an inherent part of him now. Morty leaving would take a part of Rick with him.

He hates caring about Morty. He doesn't want to. He wants Morty to leave. But he doesn't. He wants to hate Morty. But he doesn’t. He wants to be like Rick Prime, not caring about anything at all. But he's not. Because he cares about people, and he hates himself for it.

@hazelnut-u-out posted a poll yesterday about whether or not Rick Sanchez is an iced coffee drinker (short answer: yes, but nuance to come) and I realized that I never came up with HCs for the family's coffee orders. I love doing this for fandoms I'm in because I barista-ed for A While and low key miss it sometimes. Anyway, headcanons!!

Rick

So in his tough guy-tortured loner-vigilante phase he was obviously an avid black coffee drinker (usually spiked). Being on the run/not having a place to call one's own he develops a taste for practicality and simplicity. Thus, he likes an easy drink you can get anywhere that is impossible to mess up. However, in a post-"Analyze Piss", post-Prime, 'Rick Sanchez is experiencing new levels of DGAF' world we get into the chaotic beverage enjoyer phase. First off, he has 100% tried every single new special drink that Starbucks rolls out. The summer skies boba thing, the oleato, everything. (He's a big fan of the Irish cream flavor when it comes out seasonally and was pissed the first time when he realized it didn't have alcohol in it.) Because Rick is hugely dopamine seeking so fun colored, fun flavored things always catch his eye. I also feel like he would majorly enjoy specialty coffee shops that do elaborate coffee drinks, like this man would fuck up a cereal milk latte. I also will contend that in this phase he has no regular order, he literally gets a different thing every time just to experiment with as many drinks as possible.

Beth

Drinks flat whites because she thinks they're classy and it's easier to have a simple coffee order for the intern at the vet to take down. I also think that she generally likes mixing caffeine and alcohol (huge espresso martini fan) and probably lost her mind on vodka red bulls in college. She also definitely had a red bull addiction to get through vet school but now she only drinks them as a guilty pleasure.

Space Beth

In honor of the fact that she's recreating her dad's 30s I think she has the same taste in coffee as a young Rick, which means she drinks it black and strong. She seems like an avid French press user and most likely has sourced fancy beans from somewhere in space (Venusian coffee probably fucks)

Jerry

Hot caramel macchiato, but he's convinced that this is the traditional way macchiatos are made and despite multiple arguments about the origins of macchiatos he is staunchly of the opinion that the actual drink is an upside down latte with fuck tons of caramel.

Summer

Pink drink purist, maybe gets matcha cold foam on top when she's feeling fancy. Although I could also see her getting vanilla iced lattes when she wants more caffeine. And if she's with Rick I can imagine her joining him in ordering crazy coffees just for fun.

Morty

Morty Smith is a fourteen year old boy, the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frap was basically made for him. It's just a fucking milkshake with caffeine, although I think that when he's with Beth and Jerry they make him get the crème version.
