YouTube Channels for Writers
The Closer Look: While this channel is primarily dedicated to the story telling in movies that doesn’t mean you can’t translate a lot of these story telling mechanics into writing. The video in the link covers how to make a compelling villain with one of my favorite villains of the DC Universe, so give them a look.
Extra Credits: Just like the last entry, this one doesn’t have much to do with writing novels or fiction. Rather, Extra Credits covers game design a lot of the time. But they also cover how to write the stories for those games and offer some interesting insight. Couple this with their other segments Extra Sci Fi and Extra History, and you have the makings of an amazing tool kit for writers of any medium.
Overly Sarcastic Productions: There is not enough praise I can throw at this channel. Anything from Trope Talk to Miscellaneous Myths and even Classics Summarized is able offer something to even the most seasoned writer. Just like Extra Credits too, they also cover a bunch of historical stuff too. Which, as a history buff myself, is always a plus.
Tale Foundry: By now, i’m sure you’ve gotten the theme. All of these channels are amazing, but this one is more writing focused then the rest thus far. The channel dedicates itself to taking a closer look at genera and sub-genera and the big players therein. It gives the audience a chance to take a look at these things under the microscope for an easier means of dissection for their own work.
Hello Future Me: I found this channel when I was scrolling through YouTube randomly and found their video on Writing a Hard Magic System and it gave me plenty of food for thought on the fantasy novel I was working on. They go on to cover a Soft Magic System which was able to really draw the line in black and white as to the difference between the two. From there, the channel has been able to offer a few good videos on matters of writing fiction and one that comes with a recommendation for me.
PlagueOfGripes: This one, you’ll need to take with a grain of salt as the host is a little rough around the edges. While he primarily covers art streams and other shenanigans like that, he did a three part video essay on writing that had quite a bit to teach. I personally found his cynical nature to be charming and funny, but if that isn’t your thing, maybe pass him by just this once.

Could you please give me something like a list of things that need to be determined about a character, more than just age, height, gender and things like that, please i need like a list of as many as possible 💕💕💕 your blog is a miracle
I will try my best. This is a list I usually try to conform to (but I have it stored in my head, rather than as a physical list, so apologies if it doesn’t make much sense…!):
Character motivation. What are they doing? Why are they doing it?
Backstory. What happened before their debut in the story?
Greatest fear. Speaks for itself; what do they fear most?
Relationships with other characters. Who do they like? Who do they not like? Who opposes them? Who helps them? Who are they related to (by blood, or circumstance)?
Main personality traits. Positive ones, and negative ones.
Moral limits. What will they absolutely not do? What would they consider doing to meet their goal?
Attitudes/Opinions. What are the main issues in your story’s world, and what is this character’s opinion on it? How do they behave towards other characters, based on their opinions of them? Who or what do they consider to be below them? What behaviours do they choose to do or not do, which gives them a sense of importance/self-esteem (i.e. being tee-total, going to church every Sunday w/o fail, always adopting pets, rather than buying them, etc)?
Abilities. Either magical, or non-magical depending on your setting. What are they best at? What are they not so good at?
Speaking skills/conventions. How do they sound when they speak? What is their vocabulary like? How do they manage/behave in everyday conversations?
Education. According to your world’s standards, how educated is the character?
Family. How were they brought up? What was their family situation like?
Friendships. Which friendships do they value the most? How many friends do they have? How easily can they make friends?
Sexual/romantic relationships. How many relationships has the character committed to? Can they commit to relationships? How do they behave when in a relationship? How do they feel about other people’s relationships?
Work. What do they think about work? What kind of work would they like to do? What kind of work are they doing? If the character is a student, then consider their work ethic, their favourite subjects, etc.
Sense of self. What is your character’s self-image like? How do they feel about themselves? What do they think about themselves in relation to other people (i.e. how do they compare themselves to somebody else?).
Health. Speaks for itself; what is this character’s health like? In the past, in the present, and in the future?
Housekeeping. How do they live, in an everyday setting? Are they tidy, or messy? What things do they consider to be necessary to a daily routine, and what things do they consistently forget about/deem to be unimportant?
Politics. How they view society, and what should be done in a ‘civil’ society. What they think of their world’s politics. How they might ‘class’ themselves.
Religion. Their views on life, death, and creation. Their understanding of their ‘purpose’, or their beliefs in how everything came to be.
Tastes. In fashion, food, and anything else you might think of.

It’s a common theme in fantasy, that assassins are fed poison from young age to train them to become immune to poison. This is scientifically not possible, as human antibodies/immune system does not work this way.
This practice is known as “Mithradatism”, named after King Mithradates (King over what is now Turkey), the man perhaps the very source of all the legends. As the story goes, he feared assassination by poison and thus started consuming poison to make himself immune, as well as experimenting with medicines to further improve on it.
In the end, after his defeat King Mithradates tried to commit suicide with his family by poison. However, it was said that while his family died, he himself remaimed alive, and either was killed by his enemies or committed suicide by sword.
Since his survival seemed to prove that “poison immunity training” works, the legend might have spread to nearby regions. It’s also bolstered by the fact that snake handlers in India seem to be less affected by snake venom after working with snakes for so long. Still, even if one can build immunity against one type of poison, it’s not possible to train to be immune to any and all poisons that exist.
I am starting to dislike this MC...

Would you please write about the Lords (plus Shigezane, Nobuyuki, and Hotaru) reactions to MC doing a similar thing and successfully leaving them? If this has been done before or falls into the category of being unfaithful then please ignore this. <3 Thank you xxo

MC leaving because of Reasons headcanon
- Nobunaga is enraged and tells you to get out and never come back, so you do just that. He regrets it after a while, but he’s too proud to go after you. He wants to think you still love him, but he’s afraid that maybe you really don’t anymore. Mitsuhide quietly keeps tabs on you for Nobunaga’s sake.- Mitsuhide suspects what’s going on and tries to talk it out with you. You tell him that his persistence is making you very uncomfortable. You move out of his house and back into Nobunaga’s castle. You can’t avoid each other because of work, but you both try to stay professional.- Yukimura is devastated and refuses to hear you out. You explain things to Lord Shingen, who reluctantly agrees to have you sent back to Kyoto. He tries to go after you, and is truly heartbroken when you look him in the eye and tell him that it’s over.- Saizo is fully aware that you’re bluffing. But he knows you’ve always tried your best to hold on to him, and that he can’t say the same for himself. He thinks you can find someone better, so he lets you go. He still keeps watch over you, but you don’t know.- Masamune is shocked but absolutely forbids you to leave. He demands a proper explanation, grabs your hands and begs you to stay. You’re his family, he needs you. Kojuro and Shigezane understand your situation, but don’t think you should leave. They’re afraid that Masamune will stop eating and collapse again. You’re guilted into staying, so you’re forced to rebuff him, over and over and over again…- You’ve pulled this kind of thing on Kojuro before, so he thinks that he’ll get you back sooner or later. By the time he realises that you’re not giving in, it’s too late. He’s always been secretly worried about whether he’s too old and just not right for you. The insecurity gets him.- Hideyoshi sees right through you, but he can’t convince you to stay, and he’s not the type to physically block you from leaving. He sends you letters, reminiscing about the things you used to do and the future you imagined together. He sends you gifts, things that you like, things that you mentioned once offhand in a casual conversation. You don’t reply.- Inuchiyo takes you at face value and is furious. He demands to know exactly who this other guy is. You tell him that this type of reaction is exactly what you hate about him. He’s hurt and stunned and reacts by punching a wall. You double down on your criticism of his violent tendencies, and take the opportunity to escape while he’s still trying to process what’s happening.- Part of Ieyasu thinks that you’re lying, but his knee-jerk reaction is to call you the most awful names. He’s cold and vicious, just like how he used to be. He tells you to get the hell out of Mihara before he decides to kill you.- Mitsunari is annoyed because he thinks you’re kicking up a fuss over nothing. He scowls and tells you to get over yourself. He only realises you were serious after you leave, but is too prickly and proud and contrary to go after you.- Shingen is puzzled. Who is your new lover, and in what way is he superior to Takeda Shingen? He wants to meet him first before letting you go. You stand your ground and the confrontation ends in a stalemate. You alternate between outright hostility and the cold shoulder until he gives in.- Kenshin is Not Impressed (mostly because Kanetsugu has been on top of things and has told him exactly what you’re up to). He tells you that if you really want to leave, it should be for your own sake, and not his.- Shigezane is confused and upset, and tells you he can’t possibly just let you go like this. But he’s always been insecure about relationships, and he especially fears losing his girl to someone else. You tell him he’s too much of a joker, he’s not serious about anything, you want someone more mature, and it hits him where it hurts. - Yeah… Nobuyuki isn’t letting you leave, no matter what. You should just give up.- Hotaru is super confused and hurt when you tell him you never want to see him again. He doesn’t know what’s going on. He doesn’t know how to deal with relationships because of his upbringing. He takes you at face value - you don’t see him, but he sees you. He goes to check on you whenever he can, but stays out of your sight.
Lessons to learn from the SLBP Lords:
Nobunaga: Never give up, no matter the odds or what others think, they don't know you.
Mitsuhide: Stop trying to do everything for everyone, worry about yourself and your own needs too, they will understand.
Inuchiyo: Stop blaming and punishing yourself for things you can't change. It wasn't even your fault in the first place.
Hideyoshi: No matter how low you are to the ground, you can always rise to greatness.
Mitsunari: You deserve love, you are more than worthy of being loved.
Ieyasu: Don't be afraid to trust others, not everyone is out to get you.
Kenshin: Don't let the scars of the past stop you from living in the now.
Shingen: Letting someone help take care of you doesn't make you weak.
Yukimura: Life is precious, don't be so willing to sacrifice your own.
Saizo: it's okay to forgive yourself, move on, and find your own happiness.
Masamune: Always try to find it in your heart to forgive those who have hurt you.
Kojuro: Don't focus so much on the future that you can't see what's going on in the now.
Shigezane: Don't feel like you are less than someone else, you are the only person like you that this world will ever have.
SLBP “Consummate Moonlight: Passion Ascending” Pt 2 Review
Yeah, yeah, I know this event ended like a week ago, lol. I’ve been swamped with real life stuff. Nearly everything that could possibly change in my life is changing - but in the best possible way! So I’m going on semi-hiatus for a bit - aka the only otome I’m likely to consume for the foreseeable future are SLBP events and IkeRev stories with CG’s. Sorry, MidCin Giles anon! ^_^
But enough about me! Here are my highly belated thoughts on the 2nd batch of ninja pre-sex events, from least to most favorite. :)
Kyoichiro is, for lack of a better description, a little bitch in his ES. When MC is headhunted (alongside the Mitsuba) by Shingen, Kyo comes along for the journey. Which seems cute on the surface, except he’s really only there to guilt MC into hurting the potential deal by going back to Oda territory with him, and all because he’s being headhunted himself by Hideyoshi (“Will you go with me, or onward to Kai?”). Upon their return, Kyo gets arrested by Nobunaga on suspicion of being Goemon, and it’s up to MC and Hideyoshi to rob a samurai in his absence to save his sorry ass. And of course, Kyo’s upset that MC puts herself in danger, and doesn’t even apologize (he has much to learn from Sasuke…). In the end, Kyo’s grateful to MC and I guess it’s kind of cute, but I was too upset to really appreciate the scene tbh. ^_^
This ES had the makings of a great story, but too much went wrong imho. I would’ve liked it better if MC had made the decision of returning with Kyo herself, without him explicitly asking her to (cos that’s awfully selfish of him). I would’ve liked it even better if she’d at least met with Shingen for her clan’s sake! Also, I wanted to read the actual scene where MC and H became thieves. And don’t even get me started with that omg-you-put-yourself-in-danger bullshit that he pulled (without apologizing!!). All in all, I think Kyoichiro does have his good sides, but they definitely weren’t on display in this story.
Personal enjoyment: 3/10
In Genya’s ES the poor guy is faced with one doozy of an order from Iga: kill Masamune. Holy shit! Adding to the pressure is the fact that Sakuya (aka Genya’s evil bro) has found MC, and is more than ready to kill her if he doesn’t follow orders. Yikes. Gen handles the situation with as much grace as one can reasonably expect, which is to say it feels like he’s on a verge of a breakdown for half the story, but can you really blame the guy?! Gen’s eventual “confrontation” with a sleeping Masamune is devastatingly touching (“Aren’t you going to kill me?”), but fortunately, he, MC, and the Date clan are able to work together and come up with a solution out of this whole mess (but not before MC tries to leave to protect Gen and he saves her from Saku 💔). One Ashina assassination and a victorious battle later, and things fortunately go back to normal for the absolute sweetest gang in SLBP.
I loved this route (although it was super stressful to read!). Gen’s struggle to reconcile everything felt super realistic (or as realistic as one can get in a universe with magic ninjas), and he came off as such a great boyfriend to MC. Gotta admit though: every time I read a Genya story, I just end up hating Sakuya that much more. Good thing Gen more than compensates for his bro’s villainy! Best quote: “You can take everything I have, but not her! Never her!”
Personal enjoyment: 10/10
Hanzo is a bona fide semi-villain in his route, simultaneously manipulating Ieyasu into pursuing Divine Rule while, well, not really trusting that he can really pull it off. But when the hotheaded Ieyasu insists on facing the mighty Takeda army head on, Hanzo can’t even help because a) Ieyasu doesn’t want him there (“We don’t need you to come. You’ll just be a burden anyway”), and b) Hanzo’s injured and traditional medicine doesn’t work on him! In the end, Ieyasu’s poison-filled salves end up doing the trick, and our snakey ninja is able to rush off into battle, save Ieyasu’s sorry ass, and return to Ieyasu’s castle, alive and more-or-less in one piece. Aww. I could swear I’ve read very similar setups in slash fanfics before… ;)
Okay but in all seriousness, this is supposed to be a story between Hanzo and MC, and I personally thought that that aspect of the ES was utterly fantastic! Literally everything Hanzo does with MC is super appealing (and super hot!!) - from playing with her early in the story, to calling her little mouse (I died, ngl), to coming home to MC after the battle, kissing her hair!!, and asking her to help him with Ieyasu’s salve. What a character! The shockingly functional relationship Hanzo was able to sustain with MC in this story almost makes me believe his MS’s happy ending could work. Almost. ^_^

Best platonic scene: Hanzo and Sakai bonding over plants. Again. :)

This one, @otome-reviews , if Kyo ES had added some suspense elements just like this and IF only the story is focused more on Kyo and Hide side of things. That would have been an exciting read...and the main conflict would have been like: can they trust Hideyoshi if Kyo and MC put themselves on the same camp as him? I bet this was the reason why Kyo wasn't so enthusiastic with Hide's proposal in the first place.
Haha, this is just my speculative--what-if scenario (plus, I saw what "Dark Lord" Hide could do in Kojuro Act 2).
I just re-read Kyoichiro’s ES and his PoV story…but I couldn’t shake the possibility that Hideyoshi might be THE ONE responsible Kyo got “detained” by Nobunaga.

Do remember that Kyo is really careful with his thief identity (he is a former ninja after all) and the only time Kyo’s identity was suspected by Nobunaga was AFTER Hideyoshi found him on the storehouse (at least in this ES. I still haven’t done his MS, sorry). MC nor Suke wouldn’t dare to let something slip about Kyo’s “other life”, perhaps Hide wouldn’t unless he had a good reason…
…like using Kyo to ruin those monks to aid Nobunaga. But since the story implied Kyo refused that first offer (when Kyo busted the empty storehouse). Hide might have thought of a way to get Kyo in his plans, like slipping some rumors that Kyoichiro might be Ishikawa Goemon to get Nobunaga to act, thus entrapping Kyo in Kiyosu to make the cotton merchant at severe disadvantage.
“if something should happened outside while you are in here, you will be proven innocent” (-which also means “if nothing happens outside while you are here, you are guilty”-).
Sakuya went to Kyo’s house and saw MC and judging by their conversation, Sakuya didn’t expect MC to be there (or at least didn’t expect that Kyo’s “mistress” was the fugitive Tsuki MC). I was led to think Saku went to Kyo’s house to assassinate MC but I believe it wasn’t the case…So what was Saku doing in Kyo'shouse? Gathering evidence? Maybe. But we do not get to know his REAL reason being there because Hide intervened in an epic fashion.
Hideyoshi is not simple. He plans “two steps ahead” as Kyoichiro would put it. Hide might have “slipped” into Nobunaga about Kyo, he doesn’t want him dead. While Nobunaga was busy with his entrapment scheme, Hide anticipated Nobu’s methods. He prevented Sakuya from killing MC (or rather he stopped him from gathering evidence against Kyo) with his “presence” since Sakuya is supposedly a secret Oda ninja, therefore he can’t act recklessly under Hideyoshi’s watch.
In Kyo’s pov, Hide used his weirdness and fixation to Kyo’s crane to get him to give one to him, not because he want it to be a signal to MC about his predicament in Kiyosu. But in reality, Hide used it as a tool to get MC to act by being the supposed thief and steal something to clear Kyo’s name.
So, Hideyoshi became Kyo’s benefactor and became indebted to him. Because of this, Kyo ruined those corrupt monks which he would otherwise refuse to do under normal circumstances.
Kyo must have got a sense of Hide’s motives as he forged the aliance with him not out of gratitude but only because he “does not want to be on Hideyoshi’s bad side”. And that statement, tells us something just how far and how “deep” HIDEYOSHI would go to achieve his goals.
I actually started on the losing team then betrayed to winning team...then back to losing clan and had the 3x fever. Dunno why it happened but I guess 3x fever is triggered when you satisfy the "betray to LOSING team 1x", since "betray to WINNING team" has a different tracker.
Downside: I lost a pearl.

If people insult you, that you are a failure, not good enough and your WIPs are useless...it is the devil that speaks. Treat them as if they are madmen, not worthy of your attention.
If people criticize you, like grammar is lacking, need improvement on certain theme, plot or character development, that your phrasing is "wrong" you don't update as often as people hoped ...pause and think about what they say...for even in these harsh feedback you can learn something.
And should the inevitable happen that people give you harsh comment and insults, examine yourself...why did I post my work?

How did Tadakatsu, Kageie, Yasumasa, and Tadatsugu die?
There is a legend that Tadakatsu died after injuring his hand from carving. If this story is true, he might have fallen ill from the infected wound. If not true, then presumably he died of age.
It was said that Kageie was executed by Kenshin. The story has it that he had sold a horse to Nobunaga, and Kenshin suspected treason. ETA: This was apparently considered a legend, and the official account of his death is due to disease.
Yasumasa seems to have contracted a disease and died of it. Tadatsugu died normally from age.
Reviewing Ieyasu’s MS
So. Ieyasu. Who I see is in the top five characters in Japan again. (There’s a psychological study in that, if anyone has the resources.) I finally finished his MS a few weeks ago, but have been putting off writing my overall impressions because, frankly, I haven’t wanted to.
I collected dozens of screenshots documenting how his character does and doesn’t change throughout the story, but the thought of going through them just to say the same things as before has been disheartening. Rather than talk about abuse and the romantic view it’s given here again, I’m going to start by talking about something I haven’t given much attention to yet: the non-Ieyasu characters.

I just re-read Kyoichiro's ES and his PoV story...but I couldn't shake the possibility that Hideyoshi might be THE ONE responsible Kyo got "detained" by Nobunaga.

Do remember that Kyo is really careful with his thief identity (he is a former ninja after all) and the only time Kyo's identity was suspected by Nobunaga was AFTER Hideyoshi found him on the storehouse (at least in this ES. I still haven't done his MS, sorry). MC nor Suke wouldn't dare to let something slip about Kyo's "other life", perhaps Hide wouldn't unless he had a good reason...
...like using Kyo to ruin those monks to aid Nobunaga. But since the story implied Kyo refused that first offer (when Kyo busted the empty storehouse). Hide might have thought of a way to get Kyo in his plans, like slipping some rumors that Kyoichiro might be Ishikawa Goemon to get Nobunaga to act, thus entrapping Kyo in Kiyosu to make the cotton merchant at severe disadvantage.
"if something should happened outside while you are in here, you will be proven innocent" (-which also means "if nothing happens outside while you are here, you are guilty"-).
Sakuya went to Kyo's house and saw MC and judging by their conversation, Sakuya didn't expect MC to be there (or at least didn't expect that Kyo's "mistress" was the fugitive Tsuki MC). I was led to think Saku went to Kyo's house to assassinate MC but I believe it wasn't the case...So what was Saku doing in Kyo'shouse? Gathering evidence? Maybe. But we do not get to know his REAL reason being there because Hide intervened in an epic fashion.
Hideyoshi is not simple. He plans "two steps ahead" as Kyoichiro would put it. Hide might have "slipped" into Nobunaga about Kyo, he doesn't want him dead. While Nobunaga was busy with his entrapment scheme, Hide anticipated Nobu's methods. He prevented Sakuya from killing MC (or rather he stopped him from gathering evidence against Kyo) with his "presence" since Sakuya is supposedly a secret Oda ninja, therefore he can't act recklessly under Hideyoshi's watch.
In Kyo's pov, Hide used his weirdness and fixation to Kyo's crane to get him to give one to him, not because he want it to be a signal to MC about his predicament in Kiyosu. But in reality, Hide used it as a tool to get MC to act by being the supposed thief and steal something to clear Kyo's name.
So, Hideyoshi became Kyo's benefactor and became indebted to him. Because of this, Kyo ruined those corrupt monks which he would otherwise refuse to do under normal circumstances.
Kyo must have got a sense of Hide's motives as he forged the aliance with him not out of gratitude but only because he "does not want to be on Hideyoshi's bad side". And that statement, tells us something just how far and how "deep" HIDEYOSHI would go to achieve his goals.
