Maya, Joe, Joseph, Noah, and Finn really be carrying this show on their backs

ever since maya and natalie have been talking about leaning into ronance & joseph quinn has been saying a lot of things about how he changed eddie’s characters from the original creation done by the duffer brothers (his rings, being more friendly than mean, his queerness), i’ve been thinking a lot more about the way that fandom perceives writers opinions v actors' acting choices.

i think that fans tend to value the opinions of writers more than actors because we have been taught by some fandoms *cough cough* that actors' decisions are unimportant. when in reality, i think characters' personalities heavily come from the way the actor plays them and perceives them. this is very evident in joe and maya discussing the bathroom scene in s3 and joseph creating eddie's image.

no way in hell the duffer brothers intended for eddie to be a queer character. they have shown time and time again they don’t care about queer characters, let alone enough to make them well-written queer characters. however, joseph has stated that he intentionally played up eddie's attraction/flirtation to steve because he thought it fit his character.

i think in fandom we’re very easily dismissive of ourselves and our interpretations of media because we’ve been so harmed in the past by creators and writers of shows. i think a lot more emphasis needs to be placed on the way that actors interpret characters, because generally they are the ones that know the best since they play them.

Mike knowing what Will meant in the van scene is not a POSITIVE thing actually is the OPPOSITE. It means that the Byler storyline is over and that Mike is homophobic towards Will and that he actually meant what he said to El in the monologue

Mike gives an ILY confession to El because of Will’s coded love confession. Mike’s monologue is literally a direct response to Will’s monologue????? Mike surely knows Will lied about the painting or at the very least he suspects it, or suspects will is talking about himself, but there are many reasons Mike might not confront him about this lol, because what if he’s wrong? Then he would expose himself.

like seriously? Look at the way he LOOKS at Will here. Really bro? He looks: scared, shocked, unsure, nervous, hopeful, happy? The way his eyes subtly shift back and forth like he is SEARCHING for an answer. He at the very least suspects, but it would make sense if he is doubting himself, especially considering it is Will that literally tells Mike to say what he said to el…. Mike would not have given that monologue otherwise. Mike is confessing his love to El, a DIRECT RESPONSE to Will’s confession where he pretends to BE el…. This is not very subtle subtext lol.

Will pretends to be El in his love confession. Will confesses he loves Mike as El. Mike then confesses he loves El back, where Will is the one actually pretending to be El the entire time. Come on now

What hurts the most about the complete trashing of Byler is how we watched Will fall apart at every turn. We saw the excitement and love on Wills face as he was waiting for Mike at the airport with his painting that he spent days on, just to receive an awkward side hug, just to third wheel on Mike and El's date, just for his painting to end up being nothing more than a device to further Mike and El's dysfunctional relationship. We watched Will suffer all season and it was officially for nothing.

Oh and also can we all agree to boycott Stranger Things until they give us our queer ships or at least just one of them? Or at least just a coming out scene? Or at least until they stop using Will’s suffering to boost milkvan? Or at least until they stop turning concentration camps into tourist traps? Or at least until-

As much as I've enjoyed (using the term very loosely) watching Will this season be a vaguely homosexual irrelevant third wheel who's always about to cry but never actually does, I agree. Honestly Will deserves to become a villain at this point. Look at the constant shit he's had to deal with and tell me you wouldn't be tempted by the dark side. I will support him no matter what and we all should too.

Also I'm trying to picture Will with a badass makeover and I don't know why but the concept of someone being badass and also having a bowl cut is very amusing to me.

okay, actually at this point i'm wondering whether or not vol. 2 actually was supposed to be something else. ignoring the queerbait, they literally didn't add the other things they were going to, for example, the incomplete letter and the "let's start a new party together, you and me" thing. also, mike never "tried new things" like finn said. like...what are they even doing?? it honestly feels incomplete...am i being vecnaed right now?? because holy fuck this is my worst nightmare.

You know what I’m really confused about? Why? Why did they do all of this with Mike’s character? Why the eyewitness parallel? Why is the first song on his Spotify playlist smalltown boy? Why did he look like that at the end of season 3 after el kissed him? Why was he awkward around Will for no reason, he doesn’t know that will likes him anyway. Why did they leave all these little hints, more than just this actually, only for him to end up straight and in love with El? Did they intend to make him gay and chicken out, or was it a strange coincidence. I don’t know. All I know is that my heart is fucking broken after seeing him in these last two episodes. If he’s not gay, then I don’t have sympathy for him because that means he really just is an asshole, and that fucking sucks.
