Finally I can show you another ANBU artwork of Kakashi Hatake. It is right from imagination. No reference at all. The sketch I drew in May, but had no time at all to finish it. Actually I had planned to finish it in my christmas vacations, but a few friends couldn’t wait for it. Eventually I wanted to do a more refined painting, but then I thought, a little bit roughness it never a non-conformance.  And for the time before christmas is always a short one… so…. KEEP IT ROUGH! One of the things that’s really struck me while rereading the Lord of the Rings–knowing much more about Tolkien than I did the last time I read it–is how individual a story it is.

We tend to think of it as a genre story now, I think–because it’s so good, and so unprecedented, that Tolkien accidentally inspired a whole new fantasy culture, which is kind of hilarious. Wanting to “write like Tolkien,” I think, is generally seen as “writing an Epic Fantasy Universe with invented races and geography and history and languages, world-saving quests and dragons and kings.” But… But…

Here’s the thing. I don’t think those elements are at all what make The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings so good. Because I’m realizing, as I did not realize when I was a kid, that Tolkien didn’t use those elements because they’re somehow inherently better than other things. He used them purely because they were what he liked and what he knew.

The Shire exists because he was an Englishman who partially grew up in, and loved, the British countryside, and Hobbits are born out of his very English, very traditionalist values. Tom Bombadil was one of his kids’ toys that he had already invented stories about and then incorporated into Middle-Earth. He wrote about elves and dwarves because he knew elves and dwarves from the old literature/mythology that he’d made his career. The Rohirrim are an expression of the ancient cultures he studied. There are a half-dozen invented languages in Middle-Earth because he was a linguist. The themes of war and loss and corruption were important to him, and were things he knew intimately, because of the point in history during which he lived; and all the morality of the stories, the grace and humility and hope-in-despair, was an expression of his Catholic faith. 

J. R. R. Tolkien created an incredible, beautiful, unparalleled world not specifically by writing about elves and dwarves and linguistics, but by embracing all of his strengths and loves and all the things he best understood, and writing about them with all of his skill and talent. The fact that those things happened to be elves and dwarves and linguistics is what makes Middle-Earth Middle-Earth; but it is not what makes Middle-Earth good.

What makes it good is that every element that went into it was an element J. R. R. Tolkien knew and loved and understood. He brought it out of his scholarship and hobbies and life experience and ideals, and he wrote the story no one else could have written… And did it so well that other people have been trying to write it ever since.

So… I think, if we really want to write like Tolkien (as I do), we shouldn’t specifically be trying to write like linguists, or historical experts, or veterans, or or or… We should try to write like people who’ve gathered all their favorite and most important things together, and are playing with the stuff those things are made of just for the joy of it. We need to write like ourselves.

The thing about bugs bunny is that he lives and dies by his bits. He’s fully capable of killing you if he wanted, but the thing is, not only is he a nice guy, he’s a funny guy. To beat bugs bunny, many people assume that you just have to not fall for the jokes. If he hits you with a pie, you don’t flinch, and eventually you’ll ware him down. The issue is, misery will only last you so long. There’s only so much bits to endure before it becomes funny. And whoever is getting laughed at is losing. Instead, to kill bugs bunny, you have to beat him at his own game. When he throws a pie, don’t try to sidestep or be a sourpuss, that’s playing into his hands. Instead, you comically open your mouth and swallow it whole. This is how you kill a god.

Okay, this is 100% me procrastinating, but I took the liberty of translating those ‘excerpts’ of Icha Icha Tactics we got when everyone was trying to figure out the code and Kakashi got so embarrassed at having to read it out. I don’t know if anyone cares about this except me, but if you ever wondered, well, I’m your girl. disclaimer: i am an idiot so i’m sorry if these are inaccurate.  also this might not be sfw idk i’ma assume not. This is from episode 154 of Shippuden/chapter 407. 

so, from right to left, since it’s Japanese, but i guess read in order of numbers if you wanna get a narrative going for yourself. 

page 31. ‘Do you really love me?’ (kinda sad when you have to ask this after sex.) 

page 8. ‘It’s the same as bartering’ (I learnt a 4 kanji combination i’ll probably never use again for this… I also am not sure what this means really but since it’s the page after discovering that something is really big it doesn’t seem good.)

page 106. ‘The leaves are in the way’

page 7. ‘It’s surprisingly big’ (lol… also page 7. just smut from the outset huh, no slow burn or nothing) (from the sentence ending I’m assuming female speaker probably)

page 207.  ‘That’s impossible’ or maybe ‘I can’t do that’ (also probs female) 

page 15. ‘The chair’s creaking’ (ギシギシ specifically means the sounds of sex/bed creaking and a woman moaning, so… chair sex is happening here i guess. page 15 too. wow.)

As a bonus, I’ll see what I can do with the little bit more we got of page 31 when Kakashi was holding it and started to freak out when he realised he’d have to read his book aloud, but the sentences get cut off so it might not make as much sense. 

Okay, so reading vertically, from right to left:

‘Do you really love me?’ 

‘So, I have proof of that -’ or maybe ‘So, I’ll prove it [to you]’ (I think the word cut off at the end is 証拠, meaning evidence, and there isn’t a verb shown so I’m just guessing)

‘It’s gotten dark, so..’ (Again, cut off)

‘Come on, (let’s) quickly (go) to my place…’ (filling in the verb)

‘Just this once…’ (I think..) 

‘I’ll do anything’ (male speaker)

‘Your hormones…’ (Wtf?! Your hormones what)

‘Nobody will come in for an hour’

(It’s all cut out, only word i can make out is ‘your’ for the last line)

Okay, so… I don’t feel as accomplished as I thought I would, but I hope I entertain someone with this lol. Maybe I should do a Kakashi smut drabble based on each line or something lmao.

Hi, what do you think about this "Kakashi sucks because he is loyal to the system that is responsible for everything" at first I was angry with the person who said this but at the same time I thought why is Kakashi loyal to Konoha and never left?

Why would he leave?

Like, what would he possibly achieve by running away from his home and leaving the few friends he has left behind?. Kakashi is not like those characters who are like "I got hurt so everyone should hurt too and feel the same pain I felt" no, Kakashi is the kind of character who is like "I got hurt so I don't want anyone else to ever go through what I went through" so he stayed and did his best to protect his friends and the the innocent ppl that he swore to protect when he decided to be a ninja. So what good would running a way and abandoning all of those people would achieve? Leaving the village won't get him anywhere. Like seriously, what would he do after he leaves? Join the Akatsuki and hurt even more innocent ppl? Or just keep running for the rest of his life without doing anything useful at all?! And he did answer your question in chapter 630. When he said "The hole in one's heart gets filled by others around you. People won't flock to someone who abandons the memory of his friends and gives up on the world just because things don't go the way he wants them to. That won't help fill the hole in your heart. People don't help those who run away and do nothing. As long as you don't give up, there will always be salvation."

And this is the difference between Kakashi and Naruto, and all the other characters that "left". No matter how bad he was hurt, he still had hope for a better future, he still did his best to make a change that would actually count and help someone or protect someone. And he didn't only dream of changing Konoha for the best because it wasn't just Konoha, he dreamed of changing the entire Shinobi world so no one would ever get hurt again the same way he and his team got hurt.

Kakashi is not the kind of person who would act upon his emotions alone, he never does anything that isn't well calculated and that's what makes him the tactical genius he is, even when he failed those students that came before team 7, he didn't fail them because he's depressed or because he was being bitter, he failed them because they weren't ready, because they would have probably been killed if they passed and started to take missions and they themselves thanked him for that

And he's not "loyal to the system" as whoever that person is claimed. Kakashi is not a mindless Shinobi who blindly follows orders either, he disobeyed direct orders from both Hiruzen and Tsunade before, if he thinks that a certain order is wrong he won't do it, no matter who gave it

So by staying he did far more good than he could have ever done if he acted like a rebellious teenager and just left. He saved those kids he failed from getting killed in some mission because they were made Shinobi before they were ready, he protected his friends, students and his ppl countless of times and as a result he became Hokage later and helped even more ppl even beyond his nation, by maintaining the peace that they all fought so hard for by creating the exchange system between the Shinobi world that kept them all needing each other and stopped any possible conflict that might occur, he cleaned the village from the corrupt system and all the damage that was still left by Danzo and his followers as mentioned in Kakashi Retsuden, he even forbade killing, even for enemies and so many other things he did as a Hokage that I will leave for another post that didn't just help Konoha but helped the entire world like he once dreamed as a kid. He would have never been able to do any of this if he simply just left the village. Throwing a tantrum then leaving the village and not actually doing anything good to change things isn't what makes a character cool imo, but standing their ground, fighting for their beliefs, helping others and trying to make a change is what makes a character cool and that's one of so many reasons Kakashi is my favorite character.
