i am shrunken down and brought to the gnome world and when i attempt to assimilate to their culture I use an acorn cap as a hat and they all laugh cheerfully at my silly mistake of wearing what they use as a bowl like a cap and though this is a transgression that would have humiliated me in my human life I am instead laughing alongside them at my humorous misunderstanding
when i go in a room and forget what i needed i become a point and click protagonist. [water bottle?] thatās not helpful right now. [socks?] i donāt know what to do with that. [charger?] thatās not helpful right now. [scissors?] i canāt do anything with that. [water bottle?] thatās not helpful right now. [lone paperclip?] thatās not helpful right now. [water bottle?]
I donāt know who needs to hear this, but if you let something slide because you were too shocked to react in the moment, you can bring it up the next time you talk to that person, you can text them, you can let them know it wonāt slide again in the future. you donāt have to just accept that behavior indefinitely because you couldnāt gather your thoughts to say it made you uncomfortable when it first happened. youāre not making anything awkward, you are giving someone an opportunity to show care for you, and telling them you trust them enough to change their behavior. there is literally nothing wrong or bad with voicing discomfort even if the moment has already passed.
Guys I know we all love AO3 for hosting our fanfiction, and the OTW for defending our right to create it. But please remember that they can only do so as long as the fanfiction is shared for free.
I know a lot of writers (and artists) will do fic commissions or submissions to fanzines (free and paid). But you cannot mention the fic was paid for on Ao3. This includes for charity drives where the writers don't keep anything! Ao3 staff has stated this explicitly in the past.
And please, please, do not run a charity drive or zine where the recipient of the proceeds is Ao3/OTW. You are publicly exposing them to legal attack for funding them by selling fanworks! You can't even mention that you do that on Ao3, do not then make a paper trail right to them!
And keep any mention of your paid work off your Ao3. No links to commissions or patreons or ko-fis or notes that the work was commissioned, or even links to author stores of unrelated books. All of these are prohibited by Ao3 itself in order to protect fan creators and their works.
Fanworks for profit is a sticky legal place, don't make the OTW's job of defending us harder or even impossible by paying them with fanwork proceeds.
fluffy boiii !!!!!!!!! :D
frankly I think a lot more people would be open to postmodern art if we all stopped pretending you had to be very smart to understand it and start acknowledging that the starting point for deriving meaning from it is frequently āthis is stupid bullshitā
last week i was chatting with one of my coworkers about the restaurants in the area and he mentioned there's a place with amazing churros that he orders lunch from sometimes and i kinda laughed and said i've never had a churro but i've always wanted to try one because they look so fantastically decadent and i kinda joked that it's on my bucket list because every time i walk by a place that sells churros i think i should buy one but then i don't
i just came back to my desk after feeling really frustrated by an instrument in the lab that broke and ruined my data for the day, and found a churro wrapped in tinfoil with a sticky note on it that said "bucket list: āļø churro" and i'm
literally most things that people write off as justĀ ātexturesā to use in graphics are stolen & unsourced material created by artists or photographers NOT meant to be used as elements in projects without royalty payments. you can sayĀ āitās just random tumblr posts they donāt careā but you wouldnāt want someone to take your work and edit into their work so they can be praised for their beautiful style and creativity even if they just post it on social media w/o profit, would you?? so maybe if you browse pinterest or google images for pictures without finding the original source, youāre using images that youāre not allowed to use without realizing it.
you see it on here a lot especially in (i wonāt link anything but iām sure you know what i mean) those album trackĀ āaestheticsā posts, auĀ āaestheticā posts (you see these less in kpop, but where people use non-royalty free images to kinda craft a visual au), and even just rather typical graphics that have a lot ofĀ ātextureā elements. and texture packs too!! thatās often where the problem starts; people just collect images (often literal art), compile them in a folder w/o sources, then insist no one can repost those images w/o crediting the person who compiled them. what???
SO may i suggest some of my fave places you can get FREE, ROYALTY-FREE elements that are totally legal to use
