Can you draw Haiti, in a military uniform during the Haitian Revolution? Thank you very much for wonderful and historical art
“The Good Lord who created the sun which gives us light from above, who rouses the sea and makes the thunder roar–listen well, all of you–this god, hidden in the clouds, watches us. He sees all that the white people do. The god of the white people demands from them crimes; our god asks for good deeds. But this god who is so good demands vengeance! He will direct our hands; he will aid us. Throw away the image of the god of the whites who thirsts for our tears, and listen to the voice of liberty which speaks in the hearts of all of us.”
The Haitian Revolution took place between 1791 and 1804, and was an insurrection by the slaves of Saint Domingue, now Haiti, against French colonial rule. To this day, it is considered the only successful slave rebellion, establishing an independent society of liberated slaves.
I TRIED ON THE LIGHTING.... I TRIED
The quote from before is Dutty Boukman’s speech, one of the early leaders of the Revolution. Born in Senegambia, he was captured, enslaved, and sent to the new World, where he ended up in Haiti as a carriage driver and a vodou priest. He played a key role in northern Haiti, where he presided over a religious ceremony in 1791 that would kick off the revolution. He is said to have give this speech during the ceremony!
You’ll notice that her uniform looks remarkably similar to those of the American Revolution. This is because the two events took place very close to one another- in fact, many of the freed people of color in Haiti had served in the American Revolution themselves.
Women played a large role in the Revolution. People like Suzanne Belair had leadership positions in the army, as well as countless other women who served integral roles in the information networks that organized the rebellion.
I probably should’ve added golden embroidery on her collar and wristcuffs but I legit forgot IM SORRY
This was the original sketch for this, cuz I wanted to try to doing more dynamic poses, but it just didnt feel right to me? Part of the reason I took so long to do this was because I took months to mull over it until I had a better vision of what I wanted!
sketch I did to get her features down!
Matthew: I think JFK did all that stuff for attention and also so he could have an airport named after him
Alfred: Nah man you got it wrong, he was named after the airport
In the new World Stars chapter, one of our translators explained that in the first couple panels, Aerica is speaking like a hardcore otaku and using a sort of archaic-samurai/ninja style of speaking called "gozaru".
Being that Aerica (in reality) was founded by sci-fi nerds and will reference sci-fi series like Star Wars, we ended up giving his dialogue some Yoda speak phrasing lol
Interestingly enough, I searched a little about how Yoda speaks in Japanese, and this Reddit post came up, with a note saying that in Japanese Yoda uses correct syntax, but an archaic vocabulary. So I think our choice to convert it to Yoda speak turned out to be very fitting!
Summary: In the 24th century, Alfred takes a long journey out into the final frontier, and almost doesn’t come back. His brother and father are left to tend to the aftermath, and see a not-so-young man take his next steps of maturity. Warnings for mentions of death, PTSD, and alcohol.

Special thanks to @draw-a-circle-thats-the-foxhole, a conversation with whom inspired this entire thing. She also wrote one of Arthur’s better lines in this story, see if you can spot it ;) also, @rainbowfruitpastilles, you asked to be tagged when I posted this!

Sometime in the 24th century
The Accident. That’s what everyone had started calling it. Or at least, that’s what they called it when he was in the room. Alfred had no idea if they spoke of it differently when he wasn’t around, though if the hushed tones and timid glances that had reliably followed him since he’d returned were any indication, he’d be shocked if the euphemism wasn’t an attempt at personal courtesy.
He’d regained every one of his 218 pounds on the journey home, and as he’d laid there bobbing in the ocean, boneless and swaddled inside the cramped pod, he’d never been so relieved to feel the crushing burden of gravity. It took a little less than an hour for the welcome wagon to arrive and fish him out of the Atlantic. When they extricated him from the hull, the tears had only partially dried on his face, and not a single person had said anything about it. There’d been several photographers there to capture the occasion, as was typical, but ultimately the only stills released to the media were ones where his face was obscured or turned away. The American public did not need to see their nation puffy-eyed and weepy.
He hadn’t prepared any verbose or witty homecoming remarks as he had for missions past. He thanked the crew and allowed himself to be manhandled into a seat, where he’d be helped out of his suit, buckled in, and sit catatonic while medics reviewed his vitals.
As they approached the shore, Alfred could feel his heart reknitting itself back into his land in more desperate knots than ever before, an ironclad tangle that he felt might never come undone.
“Welcome back, Commander!” The administrator had come in person to welcome him, and was all smiles as he was disembarked. He’d tried to reciprocate, but gravity’s pull on the corners of his mouth outclassed him.
“Thank you, ma'am,” was all he’d said, a paltry grin quivering. His focus was on the solid ground under his toes. “Relieved to be back.” It was an understatement for the ages.

look my canada aesthetic is really important to me
fraternal.
also some quotes that plagued my mind while i was making this:
“Night, in which everything was lost, went reaching out, beyond stars and sun. Stars and sun, a few bright grains, went spiraling round for terror, and holding each other in embrace, there in a darkness that outpassed them all, and left them tiny and daunted. So much, and himself, infinitesimal, at the core of nothingness, and yet not nothing.”
-- Sons and Lovers, D.H. Lawrence "We're no longer young men. We've lost any desire to conquer the world."
-- All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque
Do u think there are little things Alfred remembers and brings up sometimes that Mathew thought he forgot or weren’t important
Oh god yes. Alfred's the epitome of blursed older brother. Does he remember Matt's 'birthday'? Depends on the year. Does he remember he insisted on picking Matt up from the airport for a visit and then was on the other side of the country the day of? Every decade. Does he occasionally forget Matt exists for months on end? Regularly. Does he always remember Ottawa is the seat of government? About 50/50 shot on that. Does he remember Canada has a PM and not a president? Also 50/50. Does he refer to the legislative body of Canada as congress? Probably every time it gets brought up.
There are also things he doesn't remember out of love. Matt knows and has carefully thought about how to disarm and incapacitate Alfred if need be. He's done it. Mostly to stop Alfred from doing something stupid, but once or twice to save his own life. The only counter for strength is knowledge. Alfred doesn't remember or know the reverse. Because such a thing has never even crossed his mind. He's invaded and set Canada on fire, but he's never struck Matt first in their lives. He's a little delusional about how Matt is sometimes. His vision of his baby brother is the most vulnerable version of Matt.
But what does he remember? Does he recall Matt's favourite apple pie recipe, that's from when Alfred was stashed with the Quakers in the early 18th century? Yes. Does he know Matt's boot size? Damn right he does, and he sent them off every three months for every season like clockwork when Matt was at war before him. Does he remember what Matt's order is for some of their classic haunts? Yeah. And when they haven't eaten somewhere, and he's in charge of picking up take out, Alfred always picks something Matt ends up enjoying.
Alfred will never remember big things. He doesn't remember fuck all about Canada, really. He's got his head full of his own country, his own accomplishments and plans and dreams. But he remembers a lot about Matt. The favourite recipes, Matt's shit lungs after WW1, the places Matt goes to hide away from the world when he's moody, where he keeps the spare keys, the migraines he gets when the Chinook pressure gets particularly shitty.
He brings up random little things all the time from when they were younger. The Canadien breed horse Matt rode down to war in 1861 and gave him when he could ride again. The ridiculous amount of hand-me-downs Matt wore of Alfred's when Arthur occasionally kidnapped him because Arthur kept forgetting to buy him things that weren't French. The kind of crabapple trees he'd lift Matt to reach. He keeps special apple trees in New England that have given him the same apples Matt's loved since the 17th century. He thinks about getting rid of them every few years because they're not profitable. But they're Matt's trees they planted when Matt was barely more than a baby when Alfred first met him in 1629.
Sweden looks like a berwald . Yeah. Ok he does . I just can’t handle calling him by his canon name i’m not calling a grown swedish man whose name is berwlad cute i sound insane
After I drew Gilbert riding a horse, here’s Gilbert on a motorbike. I promise I’ll draw somebody else eventually lmao
Idea came to me when I looked through a book at the bookstore that had pictures from the 1920s, including an image of two reporters with their bike; the image reminded me of an AU somebody brought up to me once with Arthur as a journalist and Gilbert who is along for the ride, so I drew this piece! It was fun to work with this color scheme again
I know that this is meant to be a silly post, but I've been OBSESSED with this concept since I first read the chapter, so-
Romano living with America makes sense. Italy, specifically South italy, had the highest amount of immigration to the US of all the European countries at that time and became very influential on American society later on. They were also "birds of passage". Every European that immigrated to the US had the intention of returning home one day, but the Italians are the only ones that succeeded at that en masse. Half of the 4-5 million that immigrated would return to Italy, some going back and forth for years. This let US Italians maintain a very strong connection with their home country, so it makes sense why Romano would follow them to the US. He's just another bird of passage who isn't actually "immigrating", just away from home for work for a bit. If Romano was the only one to go live with America, I wouldn't question it.
But Lithuania being there is weird. It's hard to track Lithuanian immigrants because they were counted as Russians beneath the Russian Empire until the 1900s. But it's believed that about 20% of the population of Lithuania fled to the US, particularly Jews. Which, while that isn't insignificant....that threshold is VERY low. You're telling me it only takes 20% of a nation's population to compel them to do something drastic? What about the 80% you left behind, Toris!! Further, the Lithuanian diaspora was no where near as big or as influential as the Italian, so what I'm saying is Lithuania should not be there only to decide to just, return home, someday, I guess? But he is, which implies that it only takes about a fourth of a population immigrating somewhere to make the nation follow. America is going to have a LOT of roommates under this model.
All in all, I headcanon that none of them really HAD to immigrate to the US. In true hetalia fashion, I like to think all of them just got bored/curious and wanted to leave home for a while and see what America was up to.
It's hard to put them in chronological order, but from 1840-1914, here's all the countries that I think would've lived with America in the NE, both working for him or just passing through:
Ireland, Various German States (Prussia? 🤨), Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Russia, Austria, Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, Greece, Slovakia, Czech, Ukraine, Finland
China would've been there too, but ONLY at America's house out West. And he would've hated working for someone the age equivalent of a 2-year-old to him.
So- if Romano and Lithuania ended up living with America when a large number of their people immigrated to the U.S.... wouldn't that mean that most of the other nations have lived with America at some point?
Did Germany and China both live with him during the California Gold Rush?
Did Russia live with him after the Cold War?
And just how many nations were living with him after WWII and the Korea War when war brides were coming back to live in the States?
I'm just imagining America's house as the nation equivalent of a Denny's at 3 am. Everyone ends up there, usually because something went horribly wrong, and if they're very lucky breakfast will be edible.
I had to do a screencap redraw of my boy
I recently came across a poem called “The Coureur-de-Bois” and I thought it’d be fun to write about Canada’s relationship with the voyageurs and coureurs de bois of the fur trade! Includes headcanons about the impact of geography on a nation’s sense of self, and how Canada deals with being “invisible”… Details on fashion at the end as well.
Cw for references to colonialism.

Canada is imagining himself as a voyageur roughing it in 17th century New France. The voyageur represented a freespirited, hardworking, courageous contributor to Canada’s conception as New France, a colony whose exports fuelled the fur trend in 17th century European fashion. Because Matthew saw himself as needed yet neglected by his closest friends and allies, since around the mid-19th century Matthew had come to identify with the voyageur, a pioneer settler of unknown, hostile terrains, and loosed from national affiliations.

Ok because I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since my last ask consider: Whether Amelia's SO is a Beatles/1D fan or not is a major factor to Arthur accepting them. And if they're not a fan then Arthur is unfairly disapproving until he sees how much they support Amelia and her interests, to which he then begrudgingly accepts them.
arthur proceeds to try and drop kick lovino out the window but francis and madeline end up holding him back.
unfortunately both arthur and lovino are too stubborn to change their opinions and this definitely creates a rift between them during the first few months of amelia and lovino’s relationship. but y’know, lovino wants to make his girlfriends dad happy so he resorts to saying that the beatles aren’t that bad, which still makes arthur upset but at least his daughter is happy (even if he can’t understand why!)
once in a while i hear from people that i produce some of the only hetalia content they still enjoy and while i am always chuffed to hear it i realize that most of my content is so niche that it’s barely recognizable as hetalia sO HERE IS AN HETALIA FOR YOU! :D
i have struggled A Lot with my relationship with aph/hws canada over the past decade and I’ve mostly realized that the only way I can make him palatable and relatable again is to portray him (ironically?) closer to how he was in canon with a few of my own tweaks… maybe in there somewhere he has a heart but it gets obscured by his 1. extreme passive aggressive sass and 2. tendency to let every single force in his life no matter how small define himself for him and Maybe if he actually did something about his mental health / quarter life crisis he’d be less of an asshole.
Like, the only reason everyone thinks he’s so nice and polite is because he is constantly apologizing for being a literal train wreck but making absoultely zero effort to be less of a train wreck because for some reason people think his executive dysfunction is Cute and Endearing when it’s actually horribly destructive.
but these days i still find him relatable because i’m currently trying to unpack a lot of figurative and literal baggage and it’s really hard to do when no one’s ever encouraged you to do it on your own before.
also he lives with a polar bear and that can’t be very good for his floors
