*puts hands on hollywood exec's shoulders, staring unblinking into their eyes* listen to me. you will never get people who hate musicals to like musicals by making your musical less of a musical. if you hide the fact that your film is a musical in the advertising, you're going to get a lot of low ratings from people who hate musicals and went into your movie not expecting a musical and got one anyway. people who hate musicals will hate them no matter how realistic and diegetic and lowkey you try to make it. they will hate musicals even if you completely excise anything complicated, over the top, silly, or even slightly challenging. they will hate musicals even if you cut half the songs. they will hate musicals even if you cast that a-lister who can't sing worth a damn. stop trying to market to people who hate musicals. they're a lost cause. your audience should be people who love musicals. this half-assed middle ground pisses off both camps. just embrace the fact that your movie is a musical. lean into it. don't try and trick musical haters into coming to your film when you could be marketing to the theater kids. better cringe than a coward.

say what you want about bridgerton I know it's not a Good Show or whatever but nicola coughlan insisting on being 'as naked as possible' in this series as a 'fuck you' to everyone saying she's too fat to be a romantic lead and because 'when I'm 60 I wanna watch it and remember how fucking hot I was' is ICONIC BEHAVIOR

watching bridgerton and obviously there were a lot of things wrong with the way socializing has worked in the past, but honestly the idea of a "calling hour" is so appealing. office hours for friendship. you can show up unannounced at my home between 1 and 3pm. you must leave by 3pm. Violet Bridgerton is truly gods strongest soldier. Every season she tells one of her children they're in love and every season they scoff in her face before causing seven different scandals to reach the same conclusion.

truly the wildest thing about all the Bridgerton discourse about "is Nicola Coughlan too FAT to be a convincing love interest???" is that in many ways she actually looks better in the period costumes than her thinner counterparts because she has the figure to really fill them out. those dresses are incredibly flattering on larger bodies because they emphasise the bust and cleavage whilst creating a very elegant silhouette. there's something unintentionally hilarious about hearing pearl-clutching in the distance over "idk is this FAT WOMAN sexy enough to be believable as an object of lust??" whilst Penelope Featherington's majestic heaving bosoms are almost spilling out of her dress in a category 5 titty event. if anything she's too sexy. they had to spend the first two seasons putting her in ugly dresses in a desperate attempt to conceal the fact that she's serving more cunt than the entire itty bitty titty committee combined

Random things I love about the show Bones:

- all the times they take stuff from the museum to use in the investigation ("I got this from the x exhibit")

- Brennan following some birds, bugs etc and finding a body ("Booth, you might want to see this")

- "Bones, stay behind me!" Brennan immediately wanders off

- the banter between Booth and Caroline Julian

- how well TJ Thyne plays exhausted Hodgins

- how immaculate Cam's outfits are (and how they are ruined by Hodgins and co's experiments)

- the guitar riffs that play every time Angela's dad is on screen

i love zack addy so much. he's oblivious, he's loveable, he's dorky, he's pathetic, he's the youngest of EIGHT, he asked his friends what "take a hint" means, he wears stupid flannel shirts to work with dead bodies, he's secretly an amazing singer, his boss/mentor is practically his mom, he's only ever punched someone once and it was his best friend, he lives above his best friend's garage, he corrected the dissertation committee while he was defending his dissertation, he's a rational empiricist but his mother still thinks he's lutheran, he and his bestie put a frozen pig through a woodchipper, he broke out a psychiatric facility using a library card, he can do complex math problems in his head, he's a nerd but comic books and the likes and foreign to him, he often thinks about building robots to take over the world, he confessed to killing a man he didnt actually ever lay a hand on, and he does it all with a slightly disgruntled look on his face.

Is your ship really that iconic if one of them haven't been buried alive and the other haven't tried to dig them out with their bare hands?

i lied, put your clothes back on, we’re actually going to talk about how brennan and hodgins are best friends and how they’re one of the most underrated pairings in the show despite being buried alive together, and hodgins being brennan’s counterpart in every au the show has done and them knowing each other from the main cast the longest and enjoying little pieces of each other that the others think are odd

2005 TV changed lives oh my god

so incredibly based of the bones writers to make Brennan autistic as fuck then have every man who meets her attracted as hell to her AND they dont stop being attracted to her when she does her autism thing, in fact most of the time it makes them more attracted to her.

shes blunt, overly serious, she thinks literally and is extremely competent in her field and the men on this show go "wow that was hot"

With Bones and Criminal Minds happening in the same place at the same time, we really should have gotten a crossover.

Sometimes I think about how and why some people had such a *bad* reaction to the end of Steven Universe, specifically in regards to the Diamonds living.

Even though they no longer are causing harm to others and are able to actually undo some of their previous harm by living, some folks reacted as though this ending was somehow morally suspect. Morally bankrupt, even.

And I think it might be because so many of us were raised on a very specific kind of kids media trope:

They all fall to their deaths.

Disney loves chucking their bad guys off cliffs. And it makes sense- in a moral framework where villains *must* be punished (regardless of whether their death will actually prevent further harm or not), but killing of any kind is morally bad for the hero, the narrative must find a way to kill the villain without the protagonists doing a murder.

It's a moral assumption that a person can *deserve* to die, that it is cosmically just for them to die, that them dying is evidence that the story itself is morally good and correct. Scar *deserves* to die, but it would be bad for Simba to kill him. So....cliff. (edit: yes, cliff then hyenas. But cliff first. Lol.)

Steven Universe, whatever else it's faults, took a step back and said "but if killing people is bad, then people dying is bad", and instead of dropping White Diamond off a cliff, asked "what would actual *restorative*, not punitive, justice look like? What would actual reparations mean here? If the goal is to heal, not just to punish, how do we handle those who have done harm?" And then did that.

Which I think is interesting, and that there was pushback against it is interesting.

It also reminds me of the folks who get very weird about Aang not killing Ozai at the end of Avatar. And like, Ozai still gets chucked in prison, so it doesn't even push back on our cultural ideas of punitive justice *that much.* and still, I've seen people get real mad that the child monk who is the last survivor of a genocide that wiped out his entire pacifist culture didn't do a murder.
