Its Not As Simple As Din Should Or Should Not Be Mandalore. It's That There Has Been Absoutely No Consistency.

Its not as simple as Din should or should not be Mandalore. It's that there has been absoutely no consistency. Nothing previously set up has been paid off, plot lines are skipped over entierly, the tone of this season is drastically different episode to episode. And characterization is all over the place.

Nothing was explored in a meaningful manner especially things set up in season 2. Season 2 basically didnt happen according to the plot of season 3 beacuse none of what mattered there had consequences here.

Its not we wanted Din to rule blindly.

Its that the journey to get to this point has been extremely poor storytelling and lacks any kind of consistent characterization or thematic focus.

Din doesn't have to rule, but we have had absolutely no exploration of how he feels about that beyond the very end of season 2 and this episode.

If you enjoy the choices made, fine. But I and others are perfectly valid in our disappointment. I don't need a story to do exactly what I want to like it.

But I sure as hell need it to be consistent.

And this is a scattered inconsistent season.

Look, I don't care if you ship Bo and Din. But for the love of Morgan Freeman please STOP saying Grogu needs a mother. As a child of a single parent and that parent being the child of a single parent, it's so dehumanizing to see Din be reduced to a man requiring a partner to fulfill his child's need for a nuclear family. I haven't felt the need to say this as I haven't seen this kind of aggression with other ships and I think it's because its heteronormative, and I really need people to just... stop.

If you ship them, fine. If you love the idea of Grogu gaining a bonus parent who makes him and his dad happy, awesome! But to reduce Din and Grogu to two people who need someone to complete them after Din has done SO MUCH for Grogu as his child on his own is insulting. Single parents are often harshly judged in our every day lives because people think their children can only be fulfilled and successful with two (HETERO) parents when that's not the case. It also reduces the growth Grogu inspired in Din to overcome his religious trauma and realize he's a good father and Mandalorian even if Din doesn't think that of himself. Needing a partner or another parent to fill in a missing piece that doesn't exist is unfair to real people and characters alike. Even for Bo as a female anti-hero in a male dominate show to be reduced to "mother" when she has decades of history that has made her a fleshed out, stand alone SW character who doesn't need another show to be fulfilled by its protagonist. It's insulting to any female SW characters to be reduced to being just a partner or parent and their original purpose isn't even acknowledged or considered in the plot just so that the romantic itch can be scratched without any real reason or purpose other than "why not?" Just... learn to not dehumanize female SW characters or undermine single parents and children of single parents. This isn't shaming fanfic writers or readers or anyone for wanting Din to be happy and liking the idea of someone being a bonus parent to Grogu, this is towards the people who keep insisting Din and Grogu will be happier and complete with a partner/parent. And I hope this comes across that way cause I know some people make get offended over this when it's not intended to do so.

I went No Contact with half of my family after my white great uncle told me he blamed my directionless lifestyle on not having a strong male figure in my life when I was doing just fine and he knew nothing about my life. The way he talked about my mom was enough for me to realize how many people agreed with him and I burned that bridge so fucking fast because my mom was a fierce woman who didn't need a man to be an awesome mother and made it very clear that any partner would be second fiddle to me and my siblings. We came first. As did her career. Romantic partners and parenthood should add zest to the life you already live, not uproot it to fit into theirs or uproot theirs to fit into yours. So don't do that to Din and Grogu, no matter who you ship him with.

This is the first character (and man) that has had me by the emotional balls for longer than three months. This year will mark the 2-year mark since I started pining for him. Happy anniversary, baby.

One of the things I really enjoy about Din Djarin as a character is the layers.  And I mean that both literally (the victorian ankle kink is real) and figuratively.

This is a guy who can be implacable, even brutal, when he’s bounty hunting.  But even at the beginning, he seems to have a preference to bring bounties in alive when possible.  Initially, he was pretty inclined to murder the Jawa that ransacked his ship, but once Kuiil pushed him to make a deal instead, he started using that very currency as his primary method.  Even at times when he really didn’t have to, like fighting a krayt dragon.

This is a guy who can be snarky and curt when he meets someone on the job, or in a combat-likely situation, but once pushed out of his comfort zone, turns awkward and even shy.  The best example of this is on Sorgan, with Omera, when the scary mercenary turns skittish animal, and kind of blurts out his tragic backstory as soon as someone shows a hint of interest.

And then there’s the number of times that the poor guy gets stabbed in the back, manipulated into something he doesn’t really want to do, or has even friendly allies up and change the terms of their team up on him.  And he still ends up going along with it.  After complaining and protest, but still.  I’ve joked that he can’t win an argument with a baby, but let’s be real here, the baby is pretty fucking persuasive.  This is however a guy who gets bullied by his mechanic to carry a frog person that she doesn’t even know to a neighboring system.  And then manages to get bullied by said frog person along the way.  And the frog person doesn’t even speak Basic!

He’s a literal knight in shining armor who will blow up a krayt dragon from inside its stomach and he’s bullied by pretty much everyone he meets, and it’s hilarious every single time.

He sleeps in full armor, in a cupboard in the space opera equivalent of a 1982 Honda Civic.  He cauterizes wounds by campfire.  He spends a whole lot of time hanging out in a forge, apparently having traumatic flashbacks at the banging noise.  This man might well be Greef Karga’s highest performing hunter, but he’s also a walking trainwreck and I love it.

He won’t remove his helmet to save his own life (though he will for his kid) but still keeps a reasonably well groomed mustache.  Does he even own a mirror?  Or does he shave by reflection in his own helmet?  I love that Din is so weird that this is a legitimate question.

He’s a solitary man with no name and the uptight governess who protects her kid with a rifle, and each season ends with him basically raising an army of friends he met along the way.   (My wishlist item is that next year, Grogu gets to raise the army to save him instead.  That and a nude bathing scene in the living waters of Mandalore.  But I feel like one is more likely than the other.)

I never would have thought that a Star Wars character could surpass Luke Skywalker in my heart, but Din Djarin might well have been created in a lab to deliberately push every one of my fannish buttons, and I love him for it.

For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."

This one is for you.

Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.

Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.

First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.

If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.

If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.

Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).

If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.

Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.

Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.

If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.

Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.

I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.

Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!

Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

For All Of The Northerners That Stood Up For Texas During Our Freeze And Said, "Don't Make Fun Of Them,

Be safe.

Postcard C1910

I shall pass through this world but once, any good thing therefore I can do, or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now, let me not defer it or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.

The reluctant adoptive parental figure to wayward kids.

The moment a character, of any gender, is suddenly handed the responsibility of being responsible for the livelihood of not just a child's wellbeing but like anyone younger than them who suddenly looks up to them as a parent I'm like "that's my spouse and those are my kids."

If you had to pick, what’s the ONE trait in a fictional character that makes you immediately go “oh this one’s mine”
