they won't tell you this in therapy but sometimes the best way to stop catastrophizing/anxiety is to interrupt your spiraling with "girl what the hell are you talking about"

Always of the belief Alicent deserved the last word in the driftmark scene. Why on earth, given the context of that scene, should Rhaenyra have gotten to say "Now they see you as you are" unchallenged. As if Alicent is in the wrong. Because what is Alicent in that moment? A desperate mother, seeking retribution for the injustice of her son being permanently disabled without so much as an apology from his attackers? Alicent going 'oh woe is me, what have i become' in response plays into Rhaenyras hands. She should have matched her energy. It should have been the true beginning of a feud. Alicent should have been given the opportunity to remind Rhaenyra "I am what you made me"

you know what else is a choice. rhaenyra looking alicent hightower in the face and saying 'still you imagine you can have all you want'
the same alicent who had to surrender her body, her autonomy, her future, her dreams, the same alicent who got eaten up by the crown and spat back out after having 4 kids in 5 years, and got shown time and time again by viserys/house targaryen at large that none of those sacrifices mattered
alicent isn't the one who spent the last 20 years doing what she wanted and getting all she wanted and facing no consequences. like she demonstrably isn't
“this is worse than season 8.”
darlings. sweetlings. take my hands and look me in the eyes. nothing could be worse than game of thrones season 8 (2019).

Archie Barnes as Oscar Tully in HOUSE OF THE DRAGON S02E07 | "The Red Sowing"
we've been talking about how Alicent's children all represent a different part of her (her rage, her lost innocence, her loathing) and I think it's very poignant that, because Daeron was raised away from the Red Keep, he is able to reflect her untampered kindness. He reflects the version of Alicent that existed before Viserys carved her out and left her hollow. As much as she fears herself as a corrupting force, I think Daeron's supposed gentle nature is a reminder that she herself was corrupted. She did onto her children what was done onto her. Her gentle heart and her kindness had no place in King's Landing- she had to abandon it. And so she sends Daeron away.
