Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower in FIRE & BLOOD (2018)
The greens, originally known as the queen's party, were the faction of House Targaryen and their loyalists who supported the ascent of Aegon II Targaryen as King of the Seven Kingdoms during the Dance of the Dragons and the years that preceded it. (in/sp)
“A son for a son” is the cruelest and deadbeat thing they could’ve had Rhaenyra demand from Alicent after the beaheading of Jaehaerys. Like her shock and horror at daemon earlier doesn’t even exist anymore. It was just lip service to make Rhaenyra look good at the time, but in the moment it counts to say something, all she wants is to make alicent suffer. And for what? Is Luke not avenged properly? All the dead smallfolk they have Rhaenyra pine over, and she can’t even muster a shred of sympathy for a murdered baby and then makes his grandmother choose between the fate of the rest of her family for the beheading of her wounded son. Like. What the fuck. What the fuck? Who are these characters because I can’t even make sense of them anymore. What the hell even was the point of blood and cheese now??

5am thoughts: on the one hand, hotd expects its viewers to be smart enough to magically realize that s2 took place over the course of six months, pick up on the subtlest most nothing clues to deduce that laenor died offscreen, that rhaenyra had a religious reawakening to the gods of old valyria offscreen, that aemond went from devastation at becoming a kinslayer to gleefully burning entire regions of his kingdom as prince regent, and that alicent, who once stepped in front of a dragon for her son, is now willing to see him publicly beheaded at rhaenyra's earliest convenience, among a score of other things, but also dumb enough to not nitpick inconsistent timelines, geographical errors, and abrupt episode-to-episode changes in the characters.
sure, jan
Repeat after me.
Alicent suddenly changing her mind about protecting her son and choosing the "realm" over him is not character development. It is character assassination and humiliation, especially with the way they had Alicent "list" her sins to Rhaenyra, and Rhaenyra fucking mocks her for it. You wanna make her a hypocrite? Fine. But make it make sense. Because they retconned her completely.
Ya'll know if they suddenly had Rhaenyra offering to give up Jace and Joffrey and bend the knee for the "good of the realm" then you'd be rioting in the streets.
