All sins are a form of Lust: The Deadliest Sins (Hazel POV)
Lust. Not lust in the vulgar sense. Not lust for power. Lust for hurt. For pain. She knows she isn’t the only one to see it. How Percy… changed after Jason’s death. But she feels like only she cares. Thaila says ‘it’s time for him to get on with his life’. Grover says ‘he’s always dark after a death.’ But the Percy she knew didn’t bash the skulls of bad mortal parents. Didn’t train as if his life depended on it (even though it sometimes did). He was kind. Scary, but gentle. She lost her mother to lust for things. Bitterness over Hades giving Marie this cursed child. She won’t lose another family member to pain and empty wishes. She won’t feel blood filling her lungs as oil did. Won’t feel the sharp blade of Riptide in place of the Earth son’s gemstone ‘flesh’. She won’t. She can’t. She will no longer suffer. And neither will her brother.
Hazel, Frank, and Percy’s relationship is not talked about enough. Fight me.
Hazel and Frank came in at a time when he was broken. He had been alone for eight months, and only remembered one person’s name. She vouched for him, welcomed him, and showed she cared. Frank tried to vouch even though he was on probatio. He stuck his neck out for a stranger because Percy saved his life, but it became so much more than that. When Percy and Annabeth reunited, she just saw the boy she fell in love with. Not the hurt that had developed while he was gone. Leo saw him as a golden boy. Jason saw a rival (at least at first). Piper saw an inferior Sparky. Hazel and Frank were impressed, but saw him as a person, as a friend. Hazel gave him a peck on the cheek ‘like she was his little sister’. Hazel and Percy both know about sacrifice. She gave her life to delay the end of the world and went to the field of punishment instead of Elysium so her mom wouldn’t have eternal damnation. He sacrificed for camp, his mom, and his friends. Frank had a mom who lived and died for sacrifice. They were all at a ‘rebuilding’ period in their lives. Hazel had a new chance at life. Frank was supposed to live up to the Zhang name. Percy had his memories wiped and no other framily. They trauma bonded. They love each other. They saw shit in Alaska.
