Thinking about Harry who’s only friends were spiders, who never had any friends of his own because of Dudley’s bullying and who was avoided because of his dirty hand-me-downs, and Hermione who didn’t feel like she could connect to people and isolated herself with books and felt alone because people were intimidated with her intelligence and thought she was obnoxious for being outspoken, and Ron who never had any friends of his own and always felt like a spare and like an afterthought to his brothers, finding friendship in each other and realizing they didn’t have to change or diminish any parts of themselves and truly accepting one another,

They mean so much to me, the way they can just sit in silence with each other and just exist is so precious to me, the idea of them hanging out is just doing homework next to each other in the common room, occasionally taking walks to the lake and hogsmeet and sipping butter while gossiping, Ron copying Hermiones notes while Harry struggles to write his potions essay, Hermione grumbling while Ron and Harry make up random predictions for divination, Harry petting crookshanks while Ron and Hermione play chess… they’re so 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽😭😭

It’s also the way they’re incomplete without the other,

Ron is the joy/humor in the trio and when he’s not there you can see the happiness and joy leave Hermione and Harry, the way they mope at the library quietly because they don’t know how to start conversation without Ron and miss the way he grounds them to normal life where they can just be Ron, Harry, and, Hermione and not have to hide behind personas to please other people,, Hermione needing someone to contradict her and threat her just like a normal person and so she can be challenged to think past what she already knows who needs Ron to challenge her thinking and push her beyond her usual intelligence and Harry who needs Ron to remind when what truly matters and to validate how he’s feeling and making him laugh when his whole world feels like falling apart

Harry who is the perspective/clarity when Ron and Hermione get too caught up to look at the big picture, Romione who constantly fight and nitpick the tiniest details even to their own detriment, and can keep grudges like it’s a professional sport not wanting but needing Harry to remind them about the important things in life and keeping them on the right track even when they lose themselves in the forest and wander off path. But he also lets them wander off the path and goof around, Ron and Hermione who need Harry because Harry looks at them like they are is whole world, no matter how ridiculous they act and how stubborn they are to prove they’re right and win whatever argument they’re having, and Harry will let them because he doesn’t care about it as long they’re happy, Harry will go the library even when he doesn’t want to, he’ll sneak into Hogsmeet to see them, He’ll go through hell and back if it meets he can go back to them, Harry indulges they’re silliness because he loves them unconditionally, they are his family

Hermione who is clearly the logic and knowledge in the trio, Ron needs her to humble him and Harry needs Hermione because unlike Ron reminds Harry that he doesn’t have to anything other than Harry, Hermione pushes Harry to be a better version of himself and truly find his confidence. Ron and Harry are so aimless without her, yes they get along but they need her because she reminds them to never overlook anything and always looks out for her younger friends, she reminds them to finish their homework and to not do anything that could get them into trouble. Ron and Harry can be so dismissive of their own health but Hermione reminds them to take care of themselves

They’re so realistic too, they way they fight and bicker but always come though for each other,

Golden trio is important to me because they never leave each other, yes they fight and quarrel but they always come back, they care so so much about each other <33 they truly do provide a safe space for each other where they can truly be themselves,, They find each other in every life

Where does this idea come from that the Black brothers are all dramatic and theatric? Regulus writes sad poems and lies on the floor soaking in his teenage tears and sorrow, while Sirius makes up fancy insults and tries to look artistic, entertaining everyone around him.

None of what they did or said is really dramatic or theatrical.

Sometimes their words might sound a bit lofty, but that's because all the Blacks were raised in a family culture that was a bit "elevated". It’s not about them being "naturally" dramatic or theatrical; they’re brought up differently, part of a family culture where honour, dignity, and "knightly" behaviour are more than just empty words. As the saying goes, some are into painting, some into literature, and some into sausages the Malfoys.

So, it's not just personal; it's the upbringing imposed on the Black character. These attitudes don’t just appear out of nowhere; one isn’t born with them, yet all the Blacks (even Narcissa to some extent, and she’s got more guts than Lucius) have them. Honour means different things to them, but it is still honour. They all stay true to their ideals, what’s important to them, they are fearless, not afraid of death, and honest in their actions and thoughts. I think it’s more family than personal.

Both Regulus and Sirius are very focused on the concept of honour, though they see it differently. You could write this on their tombstones:

Mine honour is my life; both grow in one. Take honour from me, and my life is done. Then, dear my liege, mine honour let me try; In that I live, and for that will I die.

(I’m purposely ignoring whose words these are — it doesn’t matter here)

Regulus "I face death in the hope that when you meet your match you will be mortal once more"

And Bella "You should be proud! If I had sons, I would be glad to give them up to the service of the Dark Lord"

And Sirius "I want to commit the murder I was imprisoned for..." and "THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED! DIED RATHER THAN BETRAY YOUR FRIENDS"

It's not about their personal theatricality; it's about how such people see the world. These people view the world through a lens where pride, honour, and dignity aren't just idealistic, they're real and ingrained structures that live within them. It's the morality of knights versus a utilitarian approach, choosing what's right over what's just beneficial.

The independence of the Blacks’ thinking leads to unique outcomes — each person has their own idea of what's "right."

Regulus isn't just a sad boy with poems, forced into a vile organisation, then betraying Voldemort out of immense pity and love for a house-elf. And Sirius isn't just an artistic dancer on the bar with witty insults.

Both Regulus and Sirius have very clear views of what's right and wrong. Sirius is incredibly brave, as is Regulus in his own way — joining the Death Eaters at 16 is brave and dangerous, but if it's the "right" thing to do, it's worth it. And if the "right actions" lead to the destruction of the entire line—well, you know... He writes such a letter believing he is dying with honour, in contrast to Voldemort, a dishonourable being who, indeed, views honour as nothing but an empty word. I believe Voldemort was quite adept at manipulating these notions of "honour" among some purebloods. Voldemort is utterly utilitarian.

The same goes for Sirius — his upbringing and ideals are mistakenly attributed to excessive drama and theatricality, as if he's some clown who deliberately makes up fancy insults and entertains the crowd by dancing on tables. This destroys the essence of Sirius, turning him into an aesthetic leech created for amusement and consumption (of attention, things, pleasures, etc.), and turning everything into an aesthetic object. Consumption and Sirius are completely opposite concepts. Nothing he does is for the Other; there's no theatricality in his actions, no fashion, no aestheticism for the sake of it, no consumption for the sake of consumption. Sirius is a man of Grand Concepts, as is Regulus.

i actually think that sirius was the favourite child and regulus spent a lot of time being asked why he couldn’t be more like him

i love it when authors make sirius only a little bit ‘cool’, but almost in the lucius malfoy-kind of pretty way. he may be a rebel but he’s still posh and vaguely traditional. his pronunciation becomes unbearably ‘stiff upper lip’ when he’s emotional. he wears his hair long because his father and grandfather also kept it long, because it’s tradition for wizards who are of age. he wears jewellery because wizards wear jewellery, not just witches, and the look of it is great. his tattoos, if he even has them, are runes like the old magicals used to have. he only wears muggle clothes when he has to because the feeling of denim makes his entire body cringe. he smokes cigarettes but would rather smoke a pipe.

sirius black, whose rebellion is purely political, utterly ideological, and not rooted into aesthetic like what this generation is so obsessed with. he appreciates modern and muggle things because they’re interesting and fun, not lesser, but he’ll always prefer dragonhide over cow leather. his favourite leather jacket is just a transfigured outer robe for the motorbike, for the off-chance that he rides it on the roads and needs to look the part.

he can be an activist and argue for muggle and muggleborn rights while dressed like a wizard. let him be as whimsical! let him be utterly out of his depth when he needs to blend in! he can be woke AND dressed all fancy please!! ideological rebellion is a mindset NOT the way you dress omfg

people saying that harry is oblivious to the feelings of others is wild to me considering the fact that he and hedwig got into tiny couple’s arguments over her mood 

harry is sort of the sirius of the golden era though isn’t he. in my head at least. like his home life is shitty, he’s loyal to a fault, he gets basically taken in by his best mate’s parents but does go his own way. he inherits a good amount of gold from his decent family members (his parents and sirius). is spat on by society & the government over something that isn’t even his fault. bit of a bitch. a cheeky little fucker. has light eyes and dark hair. would probably kill for his codependent buds if absolutely necessary. probably also has the gal (and self-imposed guilt) to stay in azkaban for 12 years before escaping on willpower alone.

what kind of music do you think Sirius listened to? favorite songs/bands? I know most of the fandom associates him to punk rock (or Bowie and Queen), but he grew up in the seventies, that was such a rich decade music wise.

also I’ve been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd lately and the song “Brain Damage” makes me think about him and the effects the whole Peter betrayal and Azkaban had in his mind.

So I have some controversial takes about Sirius's music tastes. I don't think he was achingly cool in his tastes. He spent most of his time either in a really traditional home or a remote Scottish castle. Also the only time we see him being musical in canon, he's singing his own dorky remix of a traditional Christmas carol.

So I can imagine his early tastes being Opera (which suits his personality so much) and classical. I have a HC that wizarding classical music is stuck in the 1600s so young Sirius may well have jammed to something like this:

I also don't think he arrived at Hogwarts all 'woke' about muggleborns. I think he had to unlearn some prejudices (we get glimpses of his upbringing when he calls Peter 'Filth'.).

But as he gets older I can see him starting to explore his musical tastes (I still HC him as a massive opera fan).

I see him as someone who likes quite angsty music (Joni Mitchell) and I also don't think his tastes would purely be contemporary music (personally I love stuff from all decades).

I like the subversion of Sirius with an achingly cool taste in music listening and loving something like this (especially the Misbehaving thing)

Regulus' Decision

This is kind of a pairing to my Sirius, and please ignore the fact that there was meant to be a chair, but I can't draw chairs.

Like Sirius, Regulus wears the purples so typical of the wizarding world, but unlike Sirius, Regulus pairs the purple with the popular green. His tunic is green silk, edged with purple and embroidery made from gold thread. Not only is his wealth displayed in having actual gold for embroidery, but also in the pearls that edge the embroidery, giving an extra richness to his garment. Regulus' tunic may have less purple (an expensive dye), but the use of green (also an expensive dye) with gold and pearls sets his tunic as just that bit more costly and is evidence of him throwing around the weight of the family name.

Further evidence of that is found in his coat. This is inspired by Victorian coats. One of the interesting aspects of the Black family is that they have gas lighting, a surprisingly modern invention compared to the candles used elsewhere, hence working it into his outfit. The coat is dual toned green and purple and edged in silver embroidered with 'Toujours Pur', the Black family motto. The crest has also been painstakingly embroidered on the cape of the coat. This is very personally tailored and there can be no doubt about it.

Regulus has a somewhat Norman haircut. I just particularily vibe with him having this look. I think the Normans were considered new money, but their influence cannot be ignored and so the haircut stuck around with purebloods (in my head). It also contrasts nicely with Sirius' longer hair.

So, been leaning into my headcanon of Catholic Blacks recently and been thinking about Sirius knowing about Regulus turning against Voldemort because Regulus confessed as much to his local priest, knowing that the course would result in his own death and fearing this would amount to suicide. Sirius goes to the priest, desperate for answers and while receives no specifics, gets enough to figure out that Regulus tried to back out. This picture is meant to be Regulus in his last confession.

I combined this with my own thoughts about clothing in the wizarding world. I believe the split when wizards went into hiding is some time not long after the Tudors, so I've run with a Tudor-esque outfit. Purples and greens are often mentioned and I think they'd be very fitting for a young Black. Stripped purple/pink and silver pantaloons because after a dream I had of Regulus in stripped trousers, its just too much fun to put him in them. His belt his black leather, with the family emblem in silver at the end. The cloak has crystals sewn into its outer edge to create a glittery effect. He has a ruff, because why not keep around such a funky it of neckwear? The rosary is gold, Whitby jet and malachite.

10 Flaws to Give Your Perfect Characters to Make Them Human

3. Chronic Self-Sabotage

A character who intentionally undermines their own success, perhaps due to deep-seated feelings of unworthiness, pushing them into frustrating, cyclical failures.

4. Emotional Numbness

Rather than feeling too much, this character feels too little. Their lack of emotional response to critical moments creates isolation and makes it difficult for them to connect with others.

5. Fixation on Legacy

This character is obsessed with how they’ll be remembered after death, often sacrificing present relationships and happiness for a future that’s uncertain.

6. Fear of Irrelevance

A character-driven by the fear that they no longer matter, constantly seeking validation or pursuing extreme measures to stay important in their social or professional circles.

7. Addiction to Novelty

Someone who needs constant newness in their life, whether it’s experiences, relationships, or goals. They may abandon projects, people, or causes once the excitement fades, leaving destruction in their wake.

8. Compulsive Truth-Telling

A character who refuses to lie, even in situations where a lie or omission would be the kinder or more pragmatic choice. This flaw causes unnecessary conflict and social alienation.

9. Over-Identification with Others' Pain

Instead of empathy, this character feels others' pain too intensely, to the point that they can’t function properly in their own life. They’re paralyzed by the suffering of others and fail to act effectively.

10. Reluctant Power

A character who fears their own strength, talent, or influence and is constantly trying to shrink themselves to avoid the responsibility or consequences of wielding it.

Do you have a favorite little quirk of Harrys or trait that he has?

Thank you so much for asking, I have several.

1. His cavity-inducing sweet tooth is something that can be tracked throughout the series, and it's something that I find overwhelmingly endearing ( if only because it's the one part of childhood he does cling to no matter what ). Harry's favorite food is treacle tart, unrivaled in its use of sugar.

2. While Harry is mostly touch adverse, conflating excessive touch with 'fuss' which he is known to hate. However, if he sees even a centimeter between Ron and Hermione you know he is going to wedge himself between it and make himself comfortable there. He does this so often and yet it makes my heart squeeze every time.

3. Owls in particular are treated for their utility within the story. Harry is often the only person that goes to visit his owl at the owlery, and he makes a habit of speaking conversationally to her in a way that we don't see anyone else ( save for Albus and Fawkes who we will lump in owl category for comparison's sake ). Hedwig is -- as he often points out -- his first friend and so he treats her as a friend first.

In general, if Harry sees an animal he's probably going to speak to it and there's also a chance he's going to pet it. I think that's neat.
