The contrast between Jadzia having all that angst over having feelings for her previous host's wife and Ezri immediately fucking Worf is so funny. Ezri said she doesn't care if that fucking worm dies and she was right

imagine a bajoran teenager living on ds9 who's trying to decide what to do with her life and feels compelled to get closer to the Emissary, but gets the sense that Sisko is a little uncomfortable with being approached in that way, and she's a little young to join the bajoran military and try to get stationed under him, so she looks for another pretense to like have a conversation with him or something

and she overhears Jake talking about playing baseball with his dad, and maybe at the temple she overhears Kira talking about going to the holosuites with them for a baseball game, and she gets the sense that baseball is Important

so she gets up her courage and approaches him on the promenade some time when he doesn't seem too busy, like "excuse me Emissary, I wonder if you would allow me to ask a favor of you."

and Sisko tries not to look like he's steeling himself

"I would like to learn about Baseball."

and he gets this big grin. and tells her what day and time to show up to Quark's for the next time he and Jake are gonna play (and ngl maybe part of him is thinking she's closer to Jake's age than Mardah is...)

and like as they're doing warmups, and she's taking things Very Seriously trying to learn the ropes, Sisko makes an offhanded comment about how Cestus III would be the place to be if you really wanted to get immersed in the sport. and of course she takes this a lot more seriously than he meant it. like a direction in life given to her from the Prophets, directly from their Emissary.

so after all of one (1) time playing baseball in a holosuite she approaches Kassidy to learn more about Cestus III and works like a short internship under her to earn passage there. and shows up in like Pike City or someplace like "hi, does anyone around here hire non-federation citizens? i don't care what type of job. also when are baseball tryouts?"

and like after several years spent getting good, bc she approaches the sport with y'know religious devotion, she returns to her people. and starts a training camp on Bajor that's like basically a monastery. like teenagers who want to pursue religious studies but can't sit still long enough to have hope of becoming a ranjen, they get sent to her to learn to practice Baseball

like imagine a young adult with a really elaborate earring and also like the baseball shoes and the short pants tucked into tall socks going "you know, waiting for a sign from the Prophets is a lot like playing left field..."

I remember reading this story of this guy who met his wife at a Star Trek convention but she spoke Portuguese and he spoke French but they both could speak Klingon and that’s how they communicated through the first few months of their relationship until they learned each other’s languages

I Doodled A Super Quick Odo, Probably Not Being Super Solid In This Moment. I Wish DS9 Had Had The Resources

I doodled a super quick Odo, probably not being super solid in this moment. I wish DS9 had had the resources to make him more transluscent.

Deep Space Shipping

Deep Space Shipping

I've seen many of these, but here's my attempt at mapping the DS9 polycule! ;)

All of these ships have 25+ fics on AO3 (aside from Kira/Miles, but the Keiko/Kira/Miles tag makes up for that :P) I love this fandom and this silly queer space station so damn much ❤❤

And man, some of the triads/quads/and more that come out of this are 👌👌

watching ds9 is great for many reasons, not least because sometimes i set my netflix to subtitles in my language when watching it with my family.

and as ever the translators have fascinating formal pronouns opinions. namely:

bashir and garak use the formal address (with the addendum that julian uses the formal-you directly. and garak of course says doctor a lot, which is extra-formal. interestingly, he doesn't always address him by title only! less diffident than it might have been.)

bashir and o'brien use the formal address (works very well with the development of their friendship + vr funny and tongue in cheek, it's great)

odo and kira use the formal address, up to and including during love declarations (as of season 3)

kira and o'brein do NOT use the formal address. baffling choice ngl. i think it's the only case when the ops team is informal w one another. i think the translator ships it guys.

sisko is formal all the time. except with jake i think. actually i can't remember if jake uses the informal w his dad. i'm pretty sure he does.

quark and rom use the informal!! which is quite interesting in terms of characterization. they are brothers!! it does a lot to set the tone.

quark and odo use the formal form in words but not in spirit, it's hilarious.

odo actually uses the formal with everyone.

dax and bashir use the formal.

even dax and sisko use the formal, including in private. this is the one thing i fully disagree with but it does add an interesting layer to their connection.

kira and dax use the formal. i don't even ship it that much but i will be honest, the formal-you is very gay here, as it can be. if you've been there you've been there.

i think kira and vedek bareil used the formal you! which is a normal thing to do with your boyfriend the religious figure i'm sure.

anyway i am choosing to incorporate all of this into my canon. standard has formal and informal addresses, as per my dodgy netflix translation. will update this post as it becomes funny.

An ink sketch of Kira Nerys from Star Trek Deep Space Nine, drawn from the waist up. She's wearing a knitted top and looking to the right side of frame with her eyes.

Enterprise Gothic (TOS edition)

It takes 430 crew to run the Enterprise. A landing party is sent out. It takes 429 crew to run the Enterprise.

Everyone keeps saying that your ship’s first officer is the best first officer in the fleet. It’s true that he’s very good at his job, but you’ve been keeping track and he’s tried to hijack the ship on at least three separate occasions so far. What the hell is going on with all the other first officers in the fleet, you wonder.

You order a chicken sandwich and coffee. You receive a plate of tribbles. This is different from every other time you’ve ordered a chicken sandwich and coffee, when you’ve received a plate of Play-Doh cubes.

Another landing party is sent out. It takes 428 crew to run the Enterprise.

You don’t even remember what chicken sandwiches and coffee taste like, and yet you keep ordering them anyway. One day, you hope, the replicator will deliver. Something other than those cubes. Something other than tribbles. You hope.

You wonder if it’s a sin against god to eat a tribble.

You wonder if god could even find you in space.

You find god in space.

The landing party fights him.

It takes 427 crew to run the Enterprise.

The first officer and the ship’s doctor are insulting each other on the bridge. This is how you know you’ve made it to safety.

The first officer and the ship’s doctor are working together as a coordinated team. This is how you know there is an imminent threat of absolute destruction.

There have been so many imminent threats of absolute destruction.

You find a chicken sandwich and coffee. It is almost definitely a mind trick conjured by an incredibly intelligent race of aliens millennia beyond human development.

The aliens want you to stop fighting. They do not give you the chicken sandwich or the coffee.

You’ve been en route to shore leave for six months. Strange things keep urgently diverting the ship along the way. You worry that you’ll be sent out in a landing party before you ever get your leave.

It takes 426 crew to run the Enterprise.

Something that really gets me about Benjamin Sisko is the way he’s just carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders at all times. He takes a backwater assignment that promises to be little more than a series of tedious bureaucratic maneuvers and instead ends up commanding the most strategically important station in a major intra-galactic war - and feels an immense amount of personal responsibility for the countless lives lost in battle, as seen in In the Pale Moonlight and The Siege of AR-558. He gets the role of religious figure thrust upon him and suddenly bears the responsibility of foresight and spiritual quests and shaping the future of an entire people who were initially foreign to him.

And he’s so often pulled out of linear time, and burdened with the knowledge and responsibilities of that untimeliness. When he gets trapped in the 21st century, ensuring the entire existence of the Federation - the institution that shaped him and gave him the values he holds dear - rests on his shoulders. In his vision in Far Beyond the Stars, he’s yanked through the fourth wall itself and learns firsthand the symbolic heft that his position as a Black captain on a space station holds, and resolves to continue fighting for the future to fulfill the dreams of Earth’s past. A past that is still, somehow, concurrent or parallel to his own. He gets taken out of sync with linear time and watches his son grow up without him and never be able to move on, and ultimately sacrifice himself to bring him back, and he can never tell Jake about it. Even the depth of his son’s love becomes yet another burden of knowledge for him to carry.

All of that and he is still a man. He is a man who is given the gift of insight that is far beyond what he was previously capable of imagining. He is timeless but he is still a linear being who is denied the rewards of linearity. He saved Bajor but not for himself. I just have a lot of feelings about it!

Look we all want very badly for the new Star Trek series to be good, but if the first season isn’t super weird and kind of crappy, then is it even a real Star Trek series?

a digital drawing of kira and odo from star trek: deep space nine. they're embracing and kissing as odo, a gelatinous lifeform, emerges from his regeneration bucket. he's in goo form from the waist down and humanoid from the waist up, and mostly colored yellow except for where warm flesh tones blush outward from where his face touches kira's.

wanted to draw something quick as a break from all the notquick stuff i'm working on :-)

this is my 1st publicly posted kiraodo so let the record show that they're lesbians to me

Garak Was Late To Lunch That Day Because He Was Building A Bomb To Destroy His Shop. He Was Eating Delavian

Garak was late to lunch that day because he was building a bomb to destroy his shop. He was eating Delavian chocolates while he made it. He saw an assassin and knew for whom the bell tolled, but he still ate his chocolates, and he still went to lunch, just a little late. Because he was making a bomb to blow himself up with.
