Why ‘Naturally skinny’ is BULLSHIT

I keep seeing people say how jealous they are of people who seem like they can eat whatever the fuck they like and not gain any weight. I’m going to tell you that 99% of the time it’s all bullshit. This post is long and idk who needs to hear this, BUT I know for a fact that people who say “I eat a lot but don’t gain weight” don’t just have a ‘fast metabolism’. Either:

secretly have an ED

I (and maybe even you) have definitely used this excuse before, so why can’t they?

they actually overestimate how much they eat

Look, my skinny friend (6 feet tall and 150) used to always claim that she ate *so* much but couldn’t gain weight, but I observed her for a week at lunch and noticed she’d take a huge af plate of food, but everytime she took a bite out of something and she didn’t like it she’d leave it and not touch it again. She’d never end up finishing even 1/3 of her plate, but she’d think she ate a lot just because she’d taken a lot, but didn’t really.

they do a shit load of sports and walking

I’m on holiday in Italy right now and I noticed most people my age are really skinny even though the food here is super rich and calorie dense. Why? This place is REALLY hilly and you have to walk everywhere to get to where you want to go. In fact that’s how I lost 15 pounds last year even though I literally ate pasta and ice cream every day. So of course the locals are going to be skinnier than average. If your ‘naturally skinny’ friend walks long distances every day or plays a lot of sports then they’re probably underestimating how many calories they’re burning.

they smoke/vape excessively

Everyone knows that nicotine makes your metabolism faster and lowers your appetite, in fact most people lose about 20lbs after starting. Your friend might reach for a cig or a vape when they’re hungry instead of a snack and just end up eating less overall. Loads of people who smoke have compared the feeling after to that of eating a meal.

They have low muscle mass

Loads of teenage boys complain that they can’t gain weight even though all they do is sit and play video games all day (look, I know boys tend to weigh less than girls on average anyway) When you think about it, although that doesn’t burn many calories, it’s not toning the muscles either. Fat weighs more than muscle which could mean their weight is low but that’s just because all that’s on them is fat.

they have a medical condition called hyperthyroidism

SO many people who think they have a ‘fast metabolism’ actually end up being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which is the actual cause of it. Especially if they have lost a lot of weight for no reason. That’s the only way you could have a fast metabolism, and people tend to not get it checked because they think they were just born that way. Or they might just have a tapeworm ☺️

or they are just a little kid.

Many kids, but not all kids, are skinny af. This is because of a combination of having more energy to run around and play (like my 9 and 11 y o cousins) and not having gone through puberty yet. For example, of your friend is a girl who is super skinny with a ‘cereal box’ body type she probably will gain weight later in life. It’s a matter of time really, wether it’s when they’re 20 or 40. My mom was like this and people thought she was anorexic when she was in her twenties but it didn’t last forever and now it’s hard for her to lose weight.

So yeah tldr, people who think they’re naturally skinny most of the time just overestimate how much they eat. If they’re actually eating that much, however, it’s probably a thyroid condition or a lack of activity. I just really wanted to put this out there so maybe someone could see it and feel better.

Maybe that's not what you want. Maybe what you really want is to be fat. To eat five slices of pizza and binge on the ice cream you got on the fridge just waiting for you.

Well the choice is your, really. But you know you can't have both.

Ways you are subconsciously encouraging other people’s eating disorders:

Posting exactly how you lost all of your weight in an extremely disordered way and then telling others to “stay safe”.

Posting tips and tricks on how to lose ten pounds in a week!

Getting an ana buddy to “check in on each other” ... but really you are helping each other lose weight and it naturally turns into a competition.

Posting these stupid ABC diets and asking others if they wanna do it with you!

Sweetspo and meanspo but saying “it’s for myself”.

Using other’s pictures as “thinspo” or “fatspo” KNOWING that person has an eating disorder

I am not going to lie, I have done some of these before years ago but I have become extremely aware of what I did SO maybe this will open some people’s eyes.

Skin Care Don’ts 🙅

Please don’t put lemon (or any citrus fruit) juice on your face! 🍋Lemon juice increases photosensitivity and can lead to chemical burns. There are safer alternatives, such as regulated AHAs for exfoliation or vitamin c serums for brightening.

BAKING SODA IS BAD FOR THE SKIN. I’m sorry, but it’s a fact. Your skin is acidic at a pH level of about 4.5. Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is very alkaline at a pH of 9. Throwing off your skin pH like that is not good for you. Toothpaste has the same problem; plus toothpaste has a bunch of skin irritants in it’s formula.

Don’t use nose pore strips. They’re a huge gimmick. Those black dots on your nose are sebaceous filaments, not blackheads. Look it up. They’re natural and can be minimized through proper cleansing and BHAs. Pore strips can make your pores LARGER and also cause broken capillaries. I’d personally like to tell Biore to fuck off with their shame-based marketing.

Avoid hot showers/baths. 🛀  I know, it feels great! Unfortunately, the hot water strips your skin of its natural oils, leaving your skin dry and unhealthy. Also, if you feel lightheaded after a hot shower/bath, that means you’re dropping your blood pressure with the heat. Again, not good for you.

If a product burns your skin, DON’T USE IT. The burning does not mean it’s “working”. You can have a tingling effect from exfoliating products, but they should never burn.

Don’t over-exfoliate. I want to cry when people say they use scrubs every day! You should exfoliate physically 1-3x a week, depending on your skin. You can chemically exfoliate more frequently, but you still need to be careful. Raw, red, and flaky skin is not cute. 😡

Don’t use a bunch of new products at once. Patch test; it’s always worth it. It sucks when you wake up in the morning with a bunch of zits and irritation and you don’t know which one of the 5 new products you tried was the culprit.

STOP TANNING! ☀️️ Sun exposure is THE worst thing for your skin. Sun exposure accelerates aging and puts you at risk for skin cancer. Avoid excessive sunlight and wear sunscreen every day. 

Be wary of essential oils. Sensitive skin can be easily irritated by these seemingly natural ingredients. Natural is not always full-proof.

Don’t be aggressive towards your acne! BHAs and tea tree oil are great PREVENTATIVE ingredients. Once you have active acne, time (and AHAs) are the only thing that will make it go away. You can’t scrub it off, sorry.

Don’t pay a premium on anti-aging skin care.💰 Anti-aging is all in prevention. Stay hydrated, limit stress, don’t drink (to excess) or smoke, and use sunscreen. No cream will undo years of damage, even if it costs hundreds of dollars.

Growing up fat, you get made fun of for everything you do, even basic shit like eating and laughing and breathing are funny when you do it because youre fat! And its so hard to not carry that with you as you get older, like I’m still embarassed to eat or dance in front of people or smile in pictures and its ridiculous and I hate it and I wish I was treated with more humanity
