This Love - Kaylor lens

Even though This Love is part of 1989 album it was still written on Oct 2012 which is before the public Kaylor timeline

I am also aware that it could be about several people, but this aims to look at the song from a Kaylor lens and see if we have evidence to back it up

Many suggest that the song is about Liz because of the lyric mv

Closely resembling this

so it could possibly be about them but it could also mean a realization that happened during this trip (sorry, Liz). This trip happened in August 2011, the month after she then wrote Red and several songs that would be in the album

Again this was written Oct 17, 2012, I would say that if it was about Liz and she was so emotional and happy about that love coming back maybe she would be inspired to write it in 2011 and not more than a year after. but who knows

so for the Kaylor stuff, Karlie posted this 4 months before Taylor wrote the song

I sometimes connect Betty and HYGTG with what happened in 2011

Where in August 2011 Taylor went on a trip with Liz and maybe had some realizations during that time. She crashed Karlie's party in September and attended the fashion show and even said I love Karlie Kloss in her first US Vogue feature (which was only published in June). Karlie, maybe had enough and told her to go fuck herself but maybe realized how serious Tay was only in January but then Taylor already had some entanglements etc

So after realizing in Jan that she maybe still had a chance and decided to go for it (slowly, idk). just conneting the 'high tide' line with the long six months here.

And let's remember that Josh and Karlie supposedly met in June 2012 and tend to celebrate that anniversary however it could also be viewed as Karlie and Taylor rekindling

remember when Karlie posted the wrong number of years they were together? that was funny

aside from this we have several lyric parallels for songs that we've known as Kaylor songs

I mean who else is she talking about? not only did Karlie refer to herself several times as a giraffe plus the taymoji of a female giraffe

Taylor herself has called Karlie during their BBF interview

I have a theory that Betty happened in 2011 when she took that trip with Liz in August and so this line could be about the same thing

Unbraiding: Holy Ground

Holy Ground was written in February 2012 (journal entry below), as you can see on the TL Taylor was still hanging out with Liz (Jan - March) while also hanging out with Dianna (not March bec of tour).

Liz was reportedly recording Jenny Turn Around with these lyrics which signals an imminent end

then -

In Feb, Taylor performs with Liz, hangs out with Dianna

and then writes Holy Ground which is a song reminiscing about a relationship that ended some time back and feels melancholic so it's weird to write this song for either Liz or Dianna.

Why would you write this line if the person you want to be with is there hanging out with you?

Although popular lore says that Holy Ground can be loosely translated to Dianna (Diana - Divine - Holy) Agron (Field/agriculture - Ground), the connection is too loose. Other easier options would be Divine/Holy Fields.

But thanks to friends (Liza @lzg27 and Michelle @omgplasticmenus) who shared the brilliant find that Holy Ground is a name of a popular restaurant in TriBeCa and it is also the old name for the area way back 1700s. Before Karlie bought her West Village Apt in mid-2012 she rented an apartment in the same area.

and the way Taylor used Holy Ground in her lyrics implied it being a physical safe space for the person she's missing

Many think that because of the line below that HG is about Dianna but it can't be because (1) She went there in April, months after the song was written and (2) Taylor did not sign it or anything. It does not look like her handwriting too, although I am not an expert but it looks very different.

Now, we don't know when Karlie and Taylor started but it's safe to say they were introduced in Apr 27, 2008 at Young Hollywood Awards and have been in the same space as you can see Taylor in the front row

It's hard to imagine Karlie saying they talked and had a baking date then Taylor's shout out saying "I love Karlie Kloss" and say they have never met. On print, on her first US Vogue cover, unprompted. Forever immortalized.

Then the last they saw each other allegedly is September and can be a reason for her reminiscing.

This is not evidence but again I feel like Taylor has always been conscious in using names of places even word to refer to her muse, and New York has always been hers and Karlie's.

So this next line below could mean both the city and their moment being very short or hurried or limited.

and then she is keeps on pointing that she has been talking about the same person not only in Red but also in Lover and in TTPD

all the dancing - maybe Taylor just loves to dance

The way we follow logic here is that we see a connection to Karlie that makes sense as intended use in the song

Then building on it by adding timelines of potential muses and the context of the whole song itself -pining and melancholia, and missing someone

Tied together with lyrical parallels throughout her discography giving us tiny clues of what the whole story she's trying to share with us.

The way Karlie doesn’t bat an eye because holding hands is just something that they do. And Taylor is just so damn happy and proud. 😭

My musings/realizations

Many of the songs in Red cannot be about Dianna since a lot of them were written before they met, it's possible they met earlier but we also have to take into consideration Lea/Dianna timeline since they seem like they were serious with Dianna moved in with Lea

I feel like Julianne Hough had a bigger role in Taylor's early life, some lyrics seem to describe her particularly I Bet You Think About Me

Liz going to Eras on 8/3 was sus - side: she reposted @taylorklosscomeout138's post (with all the gaylor and kaylor tags)

It's good to look at Liz's discography too, she seems to be talking about Taylor and according to her lyrics that she fell for the other person esp Nothing Personal and H8u and the other person wasn't as serious as they expected
