Do you have any tips/what are your thoughts for writing on finding the right amount of detail vs too much detail? I’m always nervous about adding detail cause I feel like it’s always too much.

To make it short: you have to decide.

Personally, I always connect details with their importance to the story. Is it important to mention this? Or is it more of a reference? Is it a metaphor? Or is it simply to give the reader a better impression of what I’m picturing?

All together, you have to decide for yourself if your story needs those details and if you want to put them in there.

Some examples:

Albert Camus is pretty straightforward (which goes hand in hand with his philosophy). There are very little details in his writing and it still works. This is an excerpt from The Stranger.

On the other hand:

Edgar Allen Poe’s writing is quite different. He’s describing things in detail, for example here in The Fall of the House of Usher, and this works too.

At the end, you have to decide for yourself what is too much, what will bore your reader or even yourself.

"I have to pee so bad please get up."

"I don't think I'm going to be able to look you in the eyes after this."

"You snore. Loudly."

"I do not snore, you liar."

"We don't have to talk about it, just get dressed."

"It's too early for this, we'll talk about it later."

"I don't understand how I slept so good last night."

"Let's keep it professional, alright?"

"Don't get confused, I was only clinging to you because you stole the blanket and I had no other way to keep warm."

"We're not going to bring this up ever again, right?"

"I slept really good last night." "That makes one of us."

"My arm is still asleep."

"Did you know you talk in your sleep?"

"How did the blanket end up on the floor? No wonder I was freezing."

"Go back to sleep."

"You're the only source of warmth in this stupid hotel, come back to bed before I get hypothermia."

I hate that people feel they need to “align” with their DR selves or “become” like their DR self…

Baby that’s YOU. You do not need to do anything to accept that you are already your DR self, you just need to accept it. Your DR self is strong and cool and badass? SO ARE YOU, CAUSE THAT IS YOU!

Your experiences will be different in every dr and how you react to things may change but you, at your core, will always be YOU. You don’t need to “align” with anything, you just have to accept yourself.

I hope I articulated this right. For me accepting my “DR self” went along with my self concept, and realizing that my dr self is me and I don’t need to do anything to change who I am at my core helped me a lot on my shifting journey.

Not to say that you can’t change things about yourself that you don’t like, you absolutely can. But you gotta accept that there is no good or bad parts of you, there is just You. So the things you want to change, change them. But don’t feel like you need to embody anything as if you don’t already have it.

You have it all. It’s yours. All of it.

Submit your supervillains here!

In this poll we put the silliest and most obscure supervillains against each other to determine who comes out on top.

If you think they’re underrated, or you just find their incredibly niche gimmick hilarious, this is where you can submit your favorite supervillains that deserve more love.

Submissions are currently open, but the cutoff date for submitting has yet to be determined.

What can I submit?

-A supervillain from almost any piece of media. Comic book supervillains are preferred. (DC/Marvel)

-Make it silly! The more goofy they are, the better.

-No serious NSFW. This gets a bit complicated because there are some supervillains that are slightly NSFW in a silly/goofy way. These kinds of supervillains are, for the most part, okay. But don’t submit anything that would make people feel uncomfortable.

-This character should generally not be known by people not in the comic book/superhero fandom.

the other person has always made their blood boil but it takes them a while to realise that the reasons have changed

they have been very snippy and full of snide remarks towards person B but since they realised they have feelings for them their mind goes blank and they go mute in front of person B

avoiding the other person as they're enemies but full on ghosting them once they realise their own feelings for their enemy

trying to mask their feelings in the least obvious way: just openly telling them how they're feeling because they wouldn't believe it anyway
