The entire Fandom needs to listen to this:
Percy having a thing for Rachel was so absolutely deserved like he should have been head over heels for her. Here's why:
First meeting? Runs her through with Riptide, and where anyone would have spent the whole time yelling and arguing, Rachel quickly gauged the situation, helped Percy hide, deviated the skeletons from their orignal path all at the same time.
Percy is so awed and he should be and Rick Riordan doesn't do justice to the whole thing.
It ends on Percy saying he owes her one, almost an indication that they would meet again.
Yet Percy is terrified of running into Rachel again because he isn't sure if he could answer all her questions, most definitely because he doesn't want to drag her into the whole thing. So much so that when he sees her at Goode, he calls her "my redheaded nightmare " .
Not only has he thought of her since they last met, but he may or may not have dreamed about her, not to mention he remembered her full name after listening just once.
When he does meet her again she yet again warns him about monsters hence saving both of them.
The most important thing is Percy, who all his life has been judged blamed ridiculed, and mocked is for the very first time understood so instantaneously by Rachel. She who has been put in mortal danger every single time she meets him doesn't blame him, doesn't judge him for it, and openly takes the blame for the burning school. Even Annabeth's first response to seeing the smoke is blaming Percy despite being around him and knowing well enough for 3 years; she chooses to blame him as if she doesn't know that it's never Percy's fault. Yet Rachel, someone who he has met only twice and that too for meager few minutes, understands him and his situation so well.
All the people in the Fandom ask yourself this: Will Percy Jackson not for all that he is be absolutely head over heels and in awe of someone like that?
He can barely give her any answers at the moment, but she agrees to a death quest to help him save the world.
Throws a literal hairbrush at the Titan King and stands her ground.
Stays by him and comforts him through his depressive thoughts about dying due to the prophecy.
Falls in love with him despite knowing he has little time left.
Does her best to help him while still keeping his mind off from spiraling into dark thoughts.
Rides a literal helicopter mid-apocalypse to get to him just to warn him of the dangers?
Percy would be so absolutely over the moon in love with Rachel, were Uncle Rick not so fixated on Percabeth agenda.
The last bit is for toxic Annabeth stans:
Rachel is a genius too.
She is ambidextrous and can draw with both hands and legs; probably has exceptional memory, and her composure and quick thinking are on par with Percy himself.
I hate bringing this to looks, but I will if I get to shut up toxic fans. Annabeth is certainly beautiful, and her grey eyes are quite unique, but Rachel is the most underrated and definitely the most beautiful out of all Percy Jackson females.
The woman literally won genetic lottery with red hair and green eyes, and the only reason Uncle Rick doesn't rave about her beauty is to not make Annabeth insecure.
Also, for those overly concerned about the Oracle celibacy thing, I will address that in my next post and how it's not a problem at all. (Now posted link is here:
Expect more Pjo-centric posts along with Perachel headcanons and more.
And people wonder why there are anti Annabeth and anti Percabeth stans. It's because Rick and all the stans have shoved Annabeth up a non-existent pedestal of the smartest ( which she is not and it's not even close) and continue to still only consider Annabeth's goals and aspirations and trauma valid.
Think of it this way:
Respectfully, if your ship consists of character A repeatedly calling someone a nickname that is a substitute for the word dumb( as further confirmed by readriordan article), dismissing character B's trauma and opinions, consistently physically hitting character B , showing toxic and controlling behavior towards character B and blaming character B for their own kidnapping and amnesia? It's not the IT couple or the perfect relationship. It's the definition of an escalating toxic relationship.
At least accept that your ship is very flawed and not even close to the definition of perfect that you paint it as. And that it's run mostly by Annabeth's wants and opinions and goals.
Just some of the screenshots. There's a few more but these are the ones I have on hand at the moment.
Percy: *comes up with a great lie to cover their asses in a heartbeat after Annabeth stuttered, unable to think of anything* Annabeth: You're stupid
???
Does Percy ever have any trauma from Gabe?
I mean, in Tartarus, he says it smells like Gabe and I cannot fail to acknowledge his self-esteem issues which Gabe contributed to, but I mean more specific trauma like hating beer and gambling, etc. Something like that?
Percy has suffered due to Gabe for a long time, which contributes quite a lot to his trauma. You see, Rirodan was writing a children's book, and he didn't want to go down too many uncomfortable details, but the signs were there. A lot of them. And despite the canon's inconsistencies, Gabe is at least mentioned in accurate context every small time that he is referenced.
Rick, however, just to be safe, makes Percy's personality so that Percy avoids thinking of Gabe, and rightfully so. Let's take this slow. Because two important things, Percy's situation in the first book and all his issues are due to Gabe and, of course, he carries forward trauma from those situations, so what are they?
1.
Physical abuse is a part that is usually glossed over by the readers to some extent, even though it's in the first book. What I am trying to say is it is always acknowledged that Percy was abused, but rarely does the fandom go down the rabbit hole of specifics. If you see it once, you won't stop seeing it.
Gabe has both verbally and physically abused Percy so much that he has an extreme amount of self-esteem issues and a self-depreciating personality.
Not only did Gabe abuse Percy, but he also made Percy work part-time jobs or side hustles just to get extra money from Percy. Mind you, Percy was barely 12 in the first book, probably still 11, and this had been going for a while.
2.
If that wasn't enough Gabe controlled the budget of the family, not allowing Sally to spend more than he allowed and he splurged most money gambling so Percy grew up in very poor conditions but was sent to boarding schools with rich people which led to a lot of bullying from their end. Since Percy fought back, he somehow earned the per usual misnomer of being a troubled kid.
Cue all his expulsions. Some may be due to monster business, but most were definitely due to Percy fighting against bullies. Why is that notable? This is the start of Percy's anger issues. Percy has a lot of repressed anger from home due to Gabe and not being able to fight him (he hasn't tapped into his power yet, at least not enough of it). Plus, the bullies and horrible living conditions all contribute to Percy's attitude.
3.
Now, if you remember, in Book 1, Gabe threatens Percy severely so that he won't harm his car. But Percy was 12, and he himself says he wasn't going to be driving, but that wouldn't stop Gabe from blaming him. This means Gabe blamed Percy for everything, relevant or otherwise. We can see this in Percy's behavior when he immediately correlates every mistake as his fault and is always reflexively seen taking the blame for everything, even those that weren't his fault.
This scene actually creates a nice parallel against that scene in Book 5 where Percy is on a drive with Rachel in Paul's car and he is very suprised that Paul himself offered the car to him and didn't even impose any rules on Percy. He is however very worried when Blackjack dents the car because even though Paul is not Gabe, Percy has this natural fear against him at least subconsciously but is also very suprised when Paul doesn't get at all angry over the dent. It's such a sweet moment for Percy; he gets to learn how good fathers are.
3.
You mentioned gambling and drinking. Percy shows great dislike for the game in book 1, but he is forced to play cause of Dionysus. He's relatively good at it but doesn't play because he associates the game with Gabe. Same for alcohol. There's a line in the book where Percy says he knows how to recognize when others have been drinking or, as Percy calls it, hitting the happy juice. Obviously, alcohol makes Percy uncomfortable in itself, and he immediately dislikes Dionysus because he is a drunkard and a poker player along with a build similar to Gabe, which makes Percy naturally dislike him greatly. It doesn't help that Dionysus is a complete asshole but his initial natural dislike of Mr. D is due to Gabe.
4.
We all joke about how Percy is a fugitive and known terrorist in tons of states. This is all Gabe's fault. Percy gets in such problems with the law all due to Gabe and how he set literally every police department possible on Percy's trail. Now Percy, being Percy, he manipulates the officers to get on their good side, but he obviously still has problems with the law due to this entire fiasco.
The fandom likes to say that Percy got all his dark aura after Tartarus, but Percy has literally had killing intent since he was 12. One of his first lines in the book is "I am going to kill her" in reference to Nancy Bobofit. He gets gut punched by the realization that Gabe has been hitting his Mom. Gabe literally raised his hand against Sally in front of Percy in book 1. You can't tell me Percy recovered from that. He thinks then too of pulling Riptide and killing Gabe but realizes it wouldn't work on Gabe. Now Percy, who almost always means exactly what he says when talking to people, calls Gabe 'human by the loosest definition.' A 12 year old thinks that you can imagine how bad the situation was.
After Book 1, Rick heavily avoids mentioning abuse in his book cause he is trying to write for kids, but it shows.
Percy thinks of Gabe when he first accidentally iris messages in on one of his Mom's and Paul's dates. Percy is immediately suspicious, which is obviously why Sally hadn't told him anything before this. She wasn't completely sure about Paul, and she also didn't want Percy to worry. When Percy sees her laugh with Paul, he thinks of how much trouble his Mom went through with Gabe.
This is important because after Book 1 when Percy finally learns why Sally kept Gabe around in his head he twists the narrative as his Mom suffered Gabe, not that both he and Sally but only Sally suffered Gabe and why? To protect him. He BLAMES himself for something that's obviously completely not his fault. But in his head, he ends up masking his own pain and considering only Sally's pain valid. This is why Percy doesn't talk to anyone about Gabe and also why everyone thinks Gabe was a bit of a jerk but not an abuser. We literally see PERCY DO THIS TO HIMSELF. Same thing in The Last Olympian. Same thing in Mark of Athena. He talks about how his Mom suffered by staying in the awful marriage, not about himself.
5.
Now the famous House of Hades scene. See Tartarus draws out negative emotions and experiences and worst nightmares of a person to feast on. This is very telling because despite the endless life-death situations Percy has been in ,he thinks of Gabe. Because to Percy, self suffering is no suffering at all. But his Mom suffering is the worst of all. Now Annabeth obviously doesn't get the cue because she has no idea about how Percy lived in his past. While it is true that Annabeth cannot be held responsible for not getting why Percy brought up Gabe in Tartarus and took it as Percy making a joke; a case can be made against Annabeth's lack of initiative to learn more about Percy's life before all this. I digress as that's a completely different discussion. Point stands is that Percy is so unbelievably broken yet loyal that he doesn't even consider his own pain valid.
The next mention of Gabe is directly in Chalice of the Gods. Percy rather openly thinks how much he hated family dinners with Gabe. Also, he has a very nice conversation with Sally soon after he recovers from being turned into a child, where he talks about how powerless being a child felt and how afraid he was. I am certain that the implications indicate at both monsters and Gabe and how a young Percy had been very afraid of both situations but more of Gabe than monsters. Go figure.
It's plenty clear how much trauma Percy has from Gabe and how much he has trained his mind to either avoid it or redirect it elsewhere lest he regress into bitterness and anger issues.
It's probably longer than you expected, but I like systematic exploration of points, hence the long rant. I have done my best to break it down, so it's easier to follow. Also, I am very, very happy for this ask as I really love to explore Percy's personality and Percy's powers. Feel free to send me more along this line of thought.
@fourcornersofcreation ,@hermesmyplatonicbeloved, @helenofsparta2 , @ogjacksonsimp, and @berrybore have all also made posts exploring some of Percy's trauma and they will probably have things to add as well. So please check their posts on this topic as well in case I missed anything.
What makes Klayley different from other series ships for you?
I am assuming you mean other ships in the orignals by that.
It's the really simple case that's not simple at all. It's the underlying passion between them that just won't go away no matter who they take as a lover. The burning anger, loathing, care, loyalty, and the inexplicably undying connection that keeps them tethered to each other always and forever, come hell or highwater.
Mikael almost killed me and the baby, but i can't help but be more worried about how Klaus suffered all these years, I need to comfort him.
The witches are murdering me and the baby. Forget Elijah , I need Klaus here.
The witches stole baby hope? Not important right now, Hayley's dead, and I need a moment or several to take it all in.
I don't really love Jackson, but Klaus needs me to marry him, so I will.
I have to deal with my newly risen from dead mother and father, but whether Hayley's new husband is treating her right or not is more important.
Hayley tried to run from me, and I am extremely furious, but I can't bear to kill her or physically hurt her.
I will hate Klaus forever, but I can't really hate him at all.
My siblings are in trouble and may need my immediate help, but the road trip with Hayley is the best fun I have had in centuries, and I love it too much to stop now.
I am the strongest and the proudest being on earth. I kneel to no one, especially not to scum like Lucien, but he has Hayley, and I would never let her die. She means too much to me. I have to kneel to save her, no problem, I will do it a thousand times if it's to save her.
I love my Pack a lot, but the Mikaelsons are dying, Klaus is dying, so my pack can go to hell. I will save him and the Mikaelsons even if I die .
I have to let go of my dignity as a wolf and kill, lie, massacre all to save Klaus and Mikaelson family. And I used to have a problem with that, but it's for Klaus, I can't watch him suffer, so i will do it gladly.
Klaus is going around the world, massacring everything in sight and trying to cut contact, but I will never give up on him.
Being in New Orleans near hope will bring forth Apocalyspe that might kill hope, but Hayley's missing, so all else be damned.
I am being killed, and Klaus is being attacked by Elijah. He's hurt, Hope's hurt, so I am going to kill Greta and sacrifice myself for them because Klaus and Hope are my family Elijah be damned.
My daughter is dying and meets me in the afterlife, but the second I hear Klaus's voice, I know all will be alright.
My brother, my companion, my only confidant who I would go insane without is dead to me for good because he killed Hayley, and there's no greater offense than that.
I am in hell. My heart feels empty. Hayley is dead. I can sacrifice Elijah to save hope and kill the hollow, but I vowed to Hayley that I would do anything to save our daughter so I will sacrifice myself. [Also because I can't live without my little wolf]
So yeah, it's you know, soul shattering stuff like this that keeps me hooked to Klayley. Nothing huge. This and all the other essays I wrote should be plenty enough evidence as to why. (Sorry for the late)
And here's the thing anyone who watched the Orignals and isn't blind should be shipping them intensely, too.
one of my fav scenes in the entire riordanverse has to be the one in SoN in which percy makes a 50/50 life or death bet knowing he will win bc he knows gaia has to keep him alive. denying the plot armor allegations is OUT, weaponinzing it is IN
As it should be. And who's to say they had a choice in the first place.
Some character: "Oh, you need the pegasi for your very important quest to save Hera? Can't do. The Savior of Olympus himself is missing, so it's all hands on deck, really, so we will leave this minor task to you . And frankly, Blackjack's rallied all the Pegasi to look for "Boss," as he calls Percy so you will have no luck there."
Like, I don't think we talk about Blackjack or Ms. O Leary's situation when Percy's missing. They must be so sad, panicked, and feeling alone like any animal without its caretaker.
But I headcanon that Blackjack rallied all the Pegasi even 'Pegasus' himself to look for Percy while all the sea creatures and nymphs, naiads were also naturally looking for their Sea Prince. [Maybe on Poseidon's order but I think he was already being split between two halves of his personality when Percy went missing so the sea creatures are doing this for Percy just cause as he is very kind to them and always helps around. ]
Not to mention, Grover would obviously have all the nature spirits looking to find Percy as well.
We totally deserved a Percy-Blackjack-Ms. O Leary reunion scene and of course Percy Grover one as well.
I really love the fact that Camp Half-Blood didn't give Jason, Piper, and Leo Pegasi for their quest in The Lost Hero, despite the fact that they didn't really have an alternative for air transportation at this point in time, and only had four days to save Hera, solely because they used the pegasi to search for Percy.
Like, priorities were set, and Hera was not on the top of that list.
Hell yes. I have so many thoughts on this.
I have always headcanoned that Percy is super close with Aphrodite cabin cause you know they share certain interests. Aphrodite is of the ocean, and her children are also by extension of the ocean. Percy himself is a child of the Sea. Percy has much in common with children of Aphrodite as his connection with naiads and pegasi is something he shares with them. Therefore, all of the Aphrodite cabin is besties with Percy; every single one of them, because not only does he respect them and doesn't underestimate them, but he also shares their interests.
Exhibit A:
This might be speculation, but it fits, and I like it, so we are going with it. Percy is especially close with Drew. It used to be both Silena and Drew before the war. Drew totally completely looked up to Silena, and they shared a close sibling bond. Drew has not been the same after the loss of Silena, and neither has Percy or Clarisse.
Now,surprisingly or not, I have always liked Drew. I know Rick wrote her off as the stereotypical mean girl, but I think I always found her to be more authentic. I remember her cameo in Kane Chronicles. I was excited, assuming that she would have a bigger role there, maybe but no such luck. As for what Annabeth and Piper think of her? Well, they have a skewed perspective of many things, and it's a character flaw Rick hasn't really worked on at all in the case of Annabeth but at least a little in Piper’s case. [Tell me honestly if Piper and Annabeth don't have the vibes of the sort of girls who look down on other girls because they use makeup. And that conversation they had where Piper agreed that Annabeth should leash Percy and it was necessary? Come on, people, some things speak for themself]
Either way, Drew and Percy totally gossip about campers. It's not even the usual sort of gossip but the kind that involves intel on the campers. Percy is and has shown to be very good at manipulation/charming, and despite how he may seem, he has an innate need to know people's secrets. He doesn't have to always, but he would rather like knowing. It's one of his self-preservation mechanisms. He can make people talk as if he is their long-lost relative or close friend. He has done it at some point to everyone(only because nobody keeps him in the loop properly, so he has to resort to his own ways). I have always thought that trick was a bit like charmspeak. So it's understandable that he and Drew get along very well. They recognize that in each other. They are always underestimated at first glance, but nobody's pulling strings like those two. I have a post that explores this habit of Percy, HERE.
Drew's cold and a bit scathing attitude is her defense mechanism. Children of Aphrodite are considered overly emotional or sensitive, and it's her way of subverting that assumption. She's very good at it too, and Percy is one of the very few who sees and understands what it is at first glance. After all, he himself prefers to do things on his own rather than rely on others.
I have absolutely no basis for this, but remember when Percy was ostracized after his claiming and continued to be so up until after Titan's Curse? I think the Stoll brothers, Malcolm, Silena, or Drew, some campers from Demeter and Apollo Cabin(Yew and Gardner maybe) were the only people who talked to him normally during that period.
Another thing to remember is that when Piper met Drew, she was still recovering from the loss of Silena. And Piper, the new girl, who didn't even seem to respect Aphrodite cabin and their acceptance and love for femininity and the strength in feminine characteristics and emotions and various facets of beauty suddenly gets made Head Counselor out of nowhere just because she did one quest and is involved in the Great Prophecy. Mind you, it was a position that belonged to Silena before and to Drew after as Silena's succesor. It meant a lot to her, so obviously, Drew hates Piper. Everyone in the Aphrodite cabin hates her guts. They represent something that Piper doesn't understand and she is in a position that was just handed to her like a freebie out of nowhere, a position that belonged to someone very dear to all of the Aphrodite cabin whose loss was still very fresh in their mind and Piper had the audacity to insult them in their own home?
Also, note that Percy was missing by then, and [CHB] were all frantically searching for him. Before his disappearance, I headcanon(I canonize) that Drew and Clarisse used to sit together and talk fondly about their memories of Silena or just sit in silence. Because none of them would ever recover from this. Now, with Percy gone, Drew didn't have anyone else to rely on just as much. So yes, she was in a super rough patch, and she had every right to hate Piper. Hell, I am sure the reason Percy dislikes Piper stems from this as well. The Aphrodite Cabin told him of her behavior, and it didn't sit right with Percy. He wouldn't say it to Piper’s face quite so soon but he will give her a gentle reminder once things have settled down because he is the calmest, most tolerant person on the planet until you mess with someone he loves or cares for and then you are done for.
Drew and Percy are a very odd duo and a very frightening one. To others that is. They are actually very wholesome together.
Drew Tanaka gives Percy the safe space he needs to be a complete and utter bitch without remorse and thats why I believe with all my heart that they’re really close friends. No, I do not take constructive criticism.

PERCY
Percy breathed deeply as soon as he felt the air of Montauk, with its rich and salty tang surround him. The anxiety he felt under his skin calmed a little as the waves happily lapped against his feet. He couldn't help the nostalgic smile. Rachel joined him soon after as he instinctively tensed. She must have noticed it because she remained silent, letting him work his thoughts out for himself, and he had never been more grateful for anything else.
A wave roared in his ears as his thoughts spiraled, and he had to suppress the sensation. He did not need another flood on his hands. The past few months had been rough, and Percy's powers had been all over the place, and he couldn't rein them in no matter what he did. His Dad and Triton had both tried to make it better, but ever since the Pit , Percy had a feeling it would be permanent. Before then, he had felt as close to the sea as he possibly could. He had been able to call upon it, however, and whenever he pleased, but now it was something else, something more. The sea, the ocean, was under his skin, raging and churning for a release. Another reason why he was here.
He has been at home, a rare moment of calm with his mom and Paul. After all the trouble he had made them go through with his nightmares, lack of sleep, out of control powers, and not to mention his paranoia. Fates must have seen that and gone: You thought, LOL NO. Because the next second, his phone had buzzed with a text from Rachel: I saw it. He didn't need further explanation than that.He shot her a quick reply, turned off his phone and grabbed Paul's keys. Before any of them could ask , he was out of the door, phone in his pocket. Yes, he had begun using a phone. Because they stayed away now, the monsters ,because he was the one who was-
"Percy, can you help keep the sand in place?" He was cut off from his darker thoughts by Rachel's words and on instinct he complied. He had barely been able to hear what she said over how soothing her voice sounded. He could feel the sand keep itself in place in response to his will; Rachel had a habit of drawing in the sand, a habit he really really liked. He had once set off waves upon waves over her sand drawings just to see her awed reaction at finding her drawing undisturbed. He had liked that too. He had spent the entire day showcasing different stuff he could do with his powers to her. Annabeth and Thalia would have called him a showoff but he had enjoyed it and Rach had too so he didn't see a problem.
She wasn't in awe like the first time she had seen it but she was still smiling and he would do just about anything to see that soft smile. Rachel had always laughed a lot, always kept a very expressive face which he had learned was her small way of rebelling against her father who had done everything he could to forcefully turn Rachel into some poised lady. "Like a mannequin" she had once told him and he had felt a surge of anger and a vicious need to strangle the man. But he was glad he could do something, even something so small that could genuinely make her smile. It made him smile too.
"Wouldn't want to disturb the new masterpiece." Percy told her as he watched her scrunch her nose, something he thought was really adorable and very endearing; which was tame compared to the usual mess of feelings he felt around her; Somedays she looked so beautiful, it was hard to look at her. Looking at her like this, at them like this, he wished he could keep this moment going forever. Him finally free from wars with only college to worry about, and the Oracle now having gone silent with Apollo being punished or whatever. But he wasn't the same, not after all that and he didn't know if Rachel had it in her to keep looking at him after what she had seen, after all, Annabeth's wailing screams were still fresh in his mind, a scar that wouldn't fade but Rachel's fear would break him, he knew that much. So he closed his eyes, took a deep breath and waited for everything to go wrong as it always did.
RACHEL
To Rachel, he had always looked out of this world. Ever since she had met him on the Hoover dam. Steady gaze, sea green eyes, a flash of blue. Percy had been her gateway to a whole new world ever since. But today gazing at the sea, his eyes softly glowing, the way he stood, he looked like something more. Rachel would have said he looked like a God, but she had met Gods, more so she had felt the essence of Gods taking over her to communicate through her, yet Percy had always felt like more. She had seen the way he had kept everyone at bay after the war, all of the seven, even Grover. Even Annabeth, especially Annabeth. She knew they had called things off soon after they had reunited in New Rome. She had seen it after all. But Percy could never keep her at bay, no more than she could keep him. They had seen and known things about each other through their visions, things so intimate, in a way no one ever could or ever should. Even when the Oracle's power was out of control, she could always rely on it to show her Percy, where he was, what he did or was about to do. Ever since she had met him, he had become her anchor. All her dreams started and ended with visions of him. She knew it was like that for him, too, at least sometimes. They had shared dreams before. She had really liked it, having him there. Because Rachel had been afraid, there was a lot to fear even in her dreams, but if Percy was there , everything would be alright. She would be safe, always. Even her father had accepted that.
So she and Percy had done what they always did. Sit together in silence doing their own things occasionally talking about the most random of things, a lot of words left unsaid but understood. Until yesterday when she had seen him in the pit, seen everything unfold in the pit. Rachel wasn't sure if she could understand it all even though she had been learning up on Greek lore and such and despite Chiron telling her ,"Some things are beyond the realm of possibility Ms.Dare." She would always believe in her own eyes, in what she saw for the sake of all the times she had not and how it had cost her. She had been afraid, she had been shaking, and she had been crying which always happened after a violent vision but this time it wasn't the vision that set it off. The raw fear and worry gripping her heart was not for herself but all for Perseus Jackson. The things he went through, his screams, his desperation, how close he had come to death, the heart wrenching way his face had contorted when he saw Annabeth's horrified face. She hadn't been able to shake it off, not the tears nor the shivering. Until she couldn’t stop the urge to talk to him. I saw it, she had texted him, her fingers shaky knowing she couldn't trust herself to speak. It hadn't stopped until his reply a few long moments after , which had felt like forever then. Montauk. I will pick you up.
Now here they were, with her drawing the most inane things and him keeping the sand in place for her. She had always loved that. The way he cherished all her drawings and her words, prophetic or otherwise. She could see him warring with himself, his powers growing stronger than ever; the reason why they were at the sea. She could wait for him to be ready, to be okay with having this conversation, she didn't want to push him, she never would. She was alright even if they didn't speak a word of it and instead spent the whole day here, like this, at peace.
He must have been resigned to having this talk because his voice turned soft as he asked, "What did you see, Red?" Her heart did the little dance it always did when he called her that . For all his love of the color blue he had ways said called her Red softly and fondly. She wished she could have controlled herself better, stopped the tears threatening to spill as she muttered just as softly, "Everything." She managed to choke out. Now they would talk in fears and in truths and a litany of promises, of assurances which would have to be enough.
"Why are you here then?" Why are you not running away in fear, in horror like they all do.
Labored breaths mingled with wavering voices.
"Where else is there to go? And I wanted to be here." Where could I go but to you who knows all of me and who I know all of. I am not afraid. I want to be here, Perce.
Choked tears, heavy voices, with emotions and impulses.
"I am not okay. I will never be okay ever again, Red ." I am a monster now, and I will always be a monster.
Waves thrashed as the sea churned on itself.
"You don't have to be okay. You just need to be alive, to be willing to live. It will get better because you have to make it better. Everyone else is like that too, Perce." You are not a monster, you are human, the best of humans. If you are the monster, then the world is hell, full of devils. But you are not. It's alright and it will be okay. You have to believe it will, with me, with everyone else.
Calm words, a chant, a prophecy.
"You saw it all, you know what I did, how I enjoyed it, Rach. Don’t defend me." I know what I am, you don't have to fool yourself into believing something else, Red.
The sea raged and raged.
"It was hell, you were in hell, you were going through the worst of situations, you were going to die, Annabeth was going to die, you were being tortured. Of course you were happy to get the upper hand. You didn't cross some line, Percy, Perseus, you held back infact. You showed mercy." You gave everything to save Annabeth, to save everyone. You have given so much too much and you are still so good.
The waves toppled over one another. Strongly then, slowly.
Sea green eyes finally met emerald ones. A look full of nothing and everything as long left unsaid words beat against each other, the waves of the sea matching the pace.
Her words, fears bared for him to see, as his own were.
"You should be the one angry, I couldn't help you, I couldn't help anyone, save anyone." Rachel was the one who had been useless through all of it. All she had done was deliver a message Annabeth had sent and worry and worry and worry about Percy, the camp and the fate of the world. The gift broke down when they needed it the most and she had tried and tried to will it to work, to start. She had started with prayers to Apollo and then ended with curses.
"That's not true, Red. You told Reyna what she needed to do to unite the camps, to face Gaea. You delivered the message. In a way your prophecy saved us all, Red." Percy was sure they couldn't have made it without Rachel, they never did when it came to great prophecies. And deep down he couldn't help the relief that she hadn't been roped into a fight or a quest. She had sacrificed enough already.
The waves thrashed once, twice, thrice more before dissolving into a harmonic calm.
PERCY
That was how he had found himself kissing Rachel.Overwhelmed and high on emotions, the both of them. He would have said more, thought this through, but he couldn't think with her soft lips moving against his own.
He relished in the familiar warmth of it and he didn't want to let go.
Sloppy makeout, sand drawings and surfing, both of them together, happy and relaxed for the first time in a long time. That's how the day had gone and Percy couldn't help but be giddy about this, about them. It was one of the best and happiest days he had ever had and maybe he was wrong about never being okay; he had a feeling with Rachel by his side along with his family, both mortal and godly, he would be okay, eventually. He had to be.
As Percy took Rachel back to the car, both of them looked back and he was sure they had the same hunch, the same shared feeling: There would be trouble ahead with newer prophecies, with Gods, and they both had a lot of explaining to do to his family, to her family, to a probably human Apollo but it could all wait a little while longer, a bit more till there were no words left unsaid.
hey, there's a story called "FAIRPLAY" in this one-part book of klayley stories. the ending of this story was a disappointment for me. i wanted klaus to regret what he did over time, to miss hayley and fight to win her back. can you please read this story and write a sequel in a different way? https://www.wattpad.com/619262551-klayley-one-shots-short-stories-fairplay
Klaus
She was gone. All traces of Hayley Marshall, his little wolf, were wiped out from New Orleans. He shook his head at the thought. She was no longer his anymore, then why did her absence gnaw at him, a strange emptiness nothing could fill. It was as if she was never there except for the scathing looks the wolves directed at him behind his back which he knew were well deserved on his part, the endless bickerings of his siblings which have worsened over time with none to mediate in between and a dull everpresent ache in his chest further served as a constant reminder which only intensified the more he though of her. You would think with her gone there wouldn’t be much to think about, but bloody hell, every little thing promoted him to think of her. She was nowhere and she was everywhere , it was maddening. Even his room smelt of her. No matter how much perfume of her own Camilie tried to smear against the sheets or fill up the room with her things. The room still smelt of his little wolf so much he could barely breathe. Not just his room but the whole damned compound. It's as if the mansion itself was also holding onto Hayley with everything. He wouldn’t be surprised. Initially, Hayley had hated the Abattior, but over time, it grew on her so much so that she , Rebekah and Kol had gone on a renovation spree with Elijah contributing useful inputs. He? He had merely watched in absolute enjoyment as Hayley conquered the Abattior for her own, interfering only when it was asked of him.
"Klaus?" The soft timbre of Camilie's voice dragged him back to the present; one of their usual dinners Camille arranged at her house to talk about things that bothered him. He understood Camilie's efforts to fill the void Hayley had left behind but that was an impossible task. "Just marveling at human stupidity. " He remarked in regard to a client she was telling him about which for the life of him he couldn’t focus on. Maybe he didn't like such talks after all. You listened to Hayley talk of her day. You even talked about your own with her. His traitorous mind reminded him but that was a different matter. It was nigh impossible not to listen to the Hayley's regal, firm and commanding voice that had a certain lilt to it that allured all who heard it. That and their conversations were so spontaneous from Faction politics to wolf stuff to his own adventures to vampire history, the way he had eliminated his enemies in the past and how he would eliminate them currently, an outing in which she happily tagged along.
Even their dinners were either private or spent with the whole family, mostly the latter given how much Hayley and he himself enjoyed it. He had tried that with Camilie, but the Mikaelsons had always been a tightly knit family, and Hayley was adored by all without exception. So his family was neither subtle nor gentle in their hostility against Camilie. Even Marcel seemed unwilling to have her presence at the family dinner. Rebekah never the one to be fond of sweet Cami as she put it had nearly killed Camillie on learning what had transpired had he not intervened. Even he was feeling the unwelcome looks of his own family, and dining in his room was out of question. He hated food crumbs littering his space. The only exception was Hayley whenever she felt like stuffing her face with ice cream late at night. He had tried to get her to stop but she had given him a look that said either we both stay or I go and she never let ice cream fall and even if it did he could just lick it off her skin. Yes, he was going mad with missing her. His family had given him enough shit as is for it as if he didn't know how badly he had botched things. He remembered how it had started when he was on one of his trips to the Bayou and had overheard a Pack elder talking to Hayley, "You need a true wolf with you, not one who never shifts and would never give you heirs. For the prosperity of the pack, the Labonair line must be continued, so I suggest you find another to mate with just for the sake of heir."
He had waited, and nothing came. Not the vehement denial he was expecting to hear from her, not a single word. Like she was considering that abhorrent prospect. He had left so quickly, and the coming days had worsened his paranoia given her time at the Bayou increased day by day. He had become so miserable that Camilie had said it was etched on his face, so he had taken the blond bartender therapist on her offer to talk. He had drank so much that night till he was absolutely hammered. And he couldn’t quite remember what happened after or how he could have done it, but he slept with Camilie. He was so disgusted that he kept his distance from her but only humored her talks because he knew he needed the therapy sessions lest he somehow took it out on Hayley, and that was unacceptable. He had also kept it a secret for once it was out, his family would murder Camilie, or perhaps Hayley would do it herself. He still hadn't found the wolf acquaintance of hers, but he would soon. He was going to come clean at the end of the ball, but it all boiled over by then, and she chose to oust him and Camilie by funking that bastard Sergio. He had never seen so much red marring his vision. The fucker was a dead man for all his lifetimes had Hayley not gone as far as to kill Camilie to protect him and then she had left, without a word. Fled, away from him. His raw instinct exhorted him to chase her to ends of earth and darg her back but his family had vehemently opposed him and Elijah had talked him down emphasising on Hayley needing time and some space. His second instinct was to hunt down the bastard Sergio, chop him into pieces, and display his head as a decoration on the mantle piece, the only thing stopping him was that he didn't wish to hurt Hayley anymore than he already had though the fact that she felt something for that fucker or any other made him want to burn down the world. But if Hayley needed time, he would give it to her, for they both had eternity at their disposal. And he could always kill the bastards who had dared to look her way later. And anyways his vampires were tailing Hayley every now and then to ensure her safety. Whatever the current state between them, he would never leave his little wolf at the mercy of his enemies. While she was far from defenseless, he needed this peace of mind.
And his sources informed him she would be returning to New Orleans soon and Klaus had never heard sweeter words than these before. Now he would reclaim his little wolf, his Queen even if he had to grovel for all eternity.
What had confused Klaus, however, was the fact that Hayley only slept with the bastard Sergio to get back at him and Camilie. However, what the hell happened to the proposal of the pack elder? After Hayley left, he had barged into the Bayou and coerced her beta Zelina into answering. He had nearly killed the woman for assuming the role of alpha as anyone other than his little wolf as the alpha was a preposterous thought. Since Hayley herself had appointed the woman in her absence, he would let it slide this once. With further coercion she divulged the fact that Hayley had not said anything to the elder at the moment because most of the pack was present to hear his proposal however later on she had almost slaughtered the elder in person for even insinuating such a suggestion. She had spent days after trying to make more developments in the pack system and had written countless rules the next alpha should follow. She had even ensured necessary facilities and amenities that would help the back prosper even in her absence so she wouldn't have to give Klaus up. It had taken every single shred of control to not go looking for Hayley for all this time, but now that she was finally returning, he couldn’t bloody wait.
Camillie
Camilie had noticed how distracted he was and tried to glue his attention to her but Klaus ended the dinner quickly and left. She had slipped in a potion she had received as a favor from the witches to get Klaus to sleep with her but no matter what she did , he always looked set on Hayley alone. She knew she would have to atone for what she did to her friends for the rest of her life and she would. She wanted someone like Klaus for herself but it would never be and she had made peace with that.
Klaus
He couldn’t stand the room in Abattior given how much it suffocated him and with his wayward thoughts sleep seemed unlikely so he settled for staring at the countless paintings of his little wolf filling his art studio for it was the only way he could placate the need to not go find her.
Hayley
The air of New Orleans made her too nostalgic. She wasn’t sure how she managed to stay away for so long. She knew Klaus's vampires were tailing her, and while she loathed it initially, she couldn’t help but like the gesture of him watching over her. After her anger had calmed down the violent need to go see, Klaus overtook her. She missed him so much. Were she not busy with observing and visiting other wolf packs and exterminating any threats to the Crescents, she would have gone mad. Bekah had called her to tell her Nik messed up once cause he was too drunk and that the bitch Cami must have slipped him something and she should return, Hayley had told her that even before that Klaus had become retracted, closed off. He stopped his surprise visits to Bayou or stopped being home altogether. Their spontaneous conversations became few and far in between in the days that followed, and she loathed it so much. The fact that he slept with Cami was the last nail in the coffin. Sergio, being the loyal friend that he is, had stuck with her all this time. It was after all his idea to take a trip back cause he couldn’t bear to see her unravel like that. "You need closure,Hayley. " And here she was. "Don’t zone out now. There's a procession here to welcome you," whispered Sergio from behind her. She snapped her attention back to present, and indeed, most of her pack and the entirety of the Mikaelson family save for Klaus were here to greet her. The first family she ever truly had. Tears welled up, but she stifled them like she stifled the pang of pain at Klaus's absence. She vamped to them and hugged Bekah first, who almost crushed her into a hug, not intent on letting go. Di(Davina), Freya, and Keelin joined in immediately after. Separating from the ladies she offered Elijah, Kol , Marcel, and Vincent a huge grin, they all reciprocated before greeting Zelina and the rest of the pack. "You have to come to the Abattior, Hayley, no questions asked. We will kick Nik out for a few days if need be." She laughed at the suggestion. She chanced a glance at Sergio, who was obviously staying pit far enough to not interfere but near enough to hear everything. "Hotel," He mouthed. Hayley nodded, partly sorry that she was making Sergio stay in a hotel alone but it would be far more unfair to make him stay with her and God knows what Klaus would do to him this time if he even shows up , Cami's probably keeping him busy. She shook that thought away. She wouldn't let it dampen her mood. What Klaus had done was on his head alone. The rest of the Mikaelsons are still her family. She was sure they saw Sergio and especially pleased to see no hostility towards him. With a final glance at Sergio, she left with the Mikaelsons.
Gods she had missed the Abattior, it had been her home for so long. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Klaus standing at the gate. "Welcome back, Hayley. There's much to talk about but a family dinner first? I will excuse myself." Hayley was stunned beyond words. Did Klaus just agree to leave the compound just so she could spend time with people who were his family first? Before she could speak, he vamped out. "Niklaus doesn't stay here much. He misses you far too much to be able to live here without you." Elijah offered. She wasn't sure what to say. "Cami's then?" "Of course not. The mansion just outside city bounds. Nik doesn't sleep with her, I told you it was a one-time thing, but she is still his therapist. I told you she slipped him something. " "Bekah, let's just eat." The spread was definitely Mikaelson style. There was everything in abundance, but she was sure she spotted all her favorites. "Nik directed the menu." This astonished her far more. The evening was perfect. She enjoyed it to her heart's content, and yet she missed Klaus madly. Damn it. Bekah had told her there was a surprise for her in her room. She was both anxious and excited, but she had not expected that. The few legal complications she had while expanding the Bayou had stopped her from implementing a few of her ideas. It was the paperwork for that all done, settled, and funded. Attached to it was a letter and an elegant platinum chain with the pendant of Mikaelson seal and an M embossed on it. Apprehensive, she opened the letter,
"Dear Hayley,
Wherever you go whatever you choose, I want you to know that you will always and forever have a family and a home here. Whether or not I am included matters little, if you wish to live here little wolf, you only need to say the word and I will make myself scarce. This was your home, Hayley, and you were happy here. I will never forgive myself for what led you to lose it, but I made you a promise, little wolf. If I need to kneel and beg and grovel for it, I will, but please give me a chance. A single chance. I once came to this city to conquer it, to make it my Empire, but it's far too empty without my Queen. Even if you choose to not give me a chance, know you will be just in your actions but I still beg you, stay here, with a family that loves you and the one that you love, with a pack that needs you. Of course, your companion Sergio is also welcome to stay if you desire, no harm will befall his life, you have my word. You told me you didn't wish to see me ever again and I am sorry to have shown you my face little wolf but I simply couldn't leave without having a glimpse of you. I love you, Hayley, I always have, my Queen and my little wolf.
Yours and yours alone , always and forever,
Klaus ."
Her legs failed her as she dropped to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably." Klaus " was the only thing she could manage to say. So she sobbed his name because it's the only person she wants, needs, and loves so much.
"I made a grave mistake, little wolf, one that you can hold me accountable for all eternity. But it took me a thousand years to find you, so even if it takes me another thousand to earn your forgiveness, I will do whatever it takes." Her head snapped up at that gentle voice. "Klaus..." He was kneeling beside her in a flash. "Tears don't become you, little wolf. I am sorry for causing you such pain." "No Klaus, please don't go... We will find a way, and we will make it work." He kissed her forehead softly with such love, Hayley couldn't breathe. "Thank you, little wolf." "Zelina told me what happened Klaus, it's not going to be easy to move past this stuff, but I love you, Klaus, and we have an eternity together. "My thoughts exactly, little wolf."
It took a while, a lot less groveling and far more honest effort at openness and communication. But it worked, they were happy, just a little bit if Fairplay and yet it could have cost them all their happiness but fairness to each other brought them back. For two people who saved each other from their darkest times, there would be no such thing as an end. Together and in love, Always and Forever.
Please let me know if you like it. I myself didn't like that ending at so thanks for giving me a chance to rewrite it.
The Percy Jackson Fandom as a whole has this blind misconception that Annabeth is the smartest but Percy is this super powerful but dumb guy who can't do anything without Annabeth.
There is no evidence that proves Annabeth is the smartest, and let us break down the criteria for this.
1)Mythological knowledge:
Annabeth gets full points cause she has an exceptional amount of knowledge regarding almost all sorts of things.
Do we know anyone who knows myths better than her?
Nico and Jason most certainly have just as good theoretical information on Greek and Roman myths.
So, is this category inclusive to Annabeth? No.
Another point is that Percy is so good at adapting that even though he is unaware, almost always of who his opponents are, Percy ways manages to outwit them or beat them.
2)Quick thinking/Adaptation:
Percy Jackson wins no contest here.
Most newer demigods like Hazel and Piper have also shown the ability of quick thinking well.
Frank's tactical abilities are really underrated, along with Jason's .
3)Specialized weapons
The invisibility cap
(It was unusable through the whole of HoO.)
4)Power specific skill set:
Photographic memory
(It's an ability all Athena children probably have)
Natural aptitude for weaponry
(All children of war gods have this)
Trickery
I didn't say manipulation cause Percy is way better manipulator than Annabeth. It's not even comparable.
5)No. of Strategies made/ Perceptive ability/
Percy:
Tricking Crusty
Unraveling Ares's scheme
Unraveling Luke's betrayal
Figuring out use for Hermes's gift in SoM
Proving to camp of Luke's betrayal by tricking him
Helping in Tricking Atlas to lift the weight of the sky
Figuring out Kronos's plan
Planning the entire strategy of Battle of Manhattan
Tricking Gaea into helping him over Phineas
Tricking Chrysaur
Outwitting Geras
Annabeth:
Made the plan to kill Medusa
Taming Cerberus
Tricks Polyphemus, however, she directly copies Odysseus, so it's not an original tactic
Figuring out Quintus' true identity (along with Percy)
Activates Deadleus's defense mechanisms
Tricking priestesses of Roman deity
Tricking and trapping Arachne
I think based on all this, there's sufficient information that dispels the misebelief that Percy is somehow dumb and Annabeth is the smartest
do you hate annabeth because she's black now??
Hate book Annabeth? Sometimes, but not entirely, though, I dislike her character portrayal later in the books.
Hate Show Annabeth? Not in this lifetime, she has managed to make Annabeth likable by toning down her sheer aggressiveness towards Percy that she has on the whole first two books and I think we can all agree that Leah has nailed the essence of Annabeth before the show ruined it that is.
(I won't even address your titular question because it's so absurd and of literally no significance to the whole thing.)
Have they butchered her character arc in the show? Absolutely. They made her borderline cold and detached from emotions and removed from things of normal world. Annabeth's problem has never been her lack of sentiment or normalcy or her cold demeanor. She is one of the most empathizing characters in the books because she is so flawed and so human, and the show has literally ripped that from her in an attempt of female empowerment and other bullshit as if Annabeth chase of all people needs female empowerment .
Do I hate Show? Absolutely.
I think it must be some sort of universal rule that you either get great books or great movies/shows, but you can't have both.
Cause the actors are spot on, but they have butchered the show utterly and completely like there's not enough words for the amount of things wrong with it.
And don't even get me started on visual effects for monsters and stuff cause even the movie had better visual effects .
The only redeemable part about the show is the Posally backstory and the take on Medusa.
And that's all I have to say over this whole mess .
