This was originally just supposed to be my MC in her dress but then I drew M’s reaction and things spiraled from there… 🙂↕️🙂↕️
The Ballad of the Young Gods by @childrenofcain-if! <3
THE MUMMY 1999 | dir. Stephen Sommers
Fantasy is philosophy’s more gorgeously painted cousin. You can’t just tell a child a blunt fact about the human heart and expect them to believe you. That’s not how it works. You can’t scribble on a Post-it note for a 12-year-old: your strangeness is worth keeping, or your love will matter. You need to show it. And fantasy, with its limitless scope, gives us a way of offering longhand proof for otherwise inarticulable ideas: endurance and hatred and regret, and power and passion and death.
-Katherine Rundell, "Why children's books?"
suppressed longing makes me feel crazy because it alway Seeps Out. like how you need to let the steam off of a pressure cooker to make sure it doesn’t explode, there’s always some evidence of it somewhere. a hug that’s a little too tight. a hand that lingers too long. eye contact that lasts a few seconds more than it’s supposed to. holding hands for safety becoming a convenient excuse. getting close enough to bump knees to watch something on a phone screen and not ever pulling away. fixing a loose thread and having fingers subconsciously feel the fabric underneath.
like it’s always There. no matter the effort that goes in to hiding and suppressing it all the lines blur eventually. and the longer it lingers, the more the touch becomes familiar—the harder it is to let off the same steam. it’s not enough to feel it a few seconds at a time. eventually there needs to be some other way to let the pressure off but what would that even be? other than crossing the line you’ve been trying to avoid this entire time?

yes all my favorite characters are desperate to be loved. no i don’t think that says anything about me
sometimes I wonder how y'all are obsessed with specific characters and I'm like "why them" but then I remember that sometimes its literally not your choice you just look at them wrong and all of a sudden they're taking up your every thought forever

To paraphrase MC, maybe I'm bad so other people don't have to be. (And I do love it because I love angst and heartbreak and what they can tell you about a character)
If you want something very different, here are all of the proposals.
Characters I believe are genuinely okay: Aerin (I'm just as surprised as you are), Imtura, and Valax. I think Mal and Nia are getting there. Tyril I have concerns for.
"I used to think your eyes were beautiful. But they were sad, too. Like a song I heard when I was a kid and forgot about until I heard it again.”
Guess who's obsessed with @childrenofcain-if ? (Axel's writing is brilliant, his characters are incredibly compelling and the soundtrack is flawless) Made following this compact ship template, with some additions from this disaster ship template.
ON PURPOSE, I'M GOING TO LOVE YOU ON PURPOSE

"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

It's been ages since I painted dragons and I miss them, so it's about time for a new OC! He doesn't have a name yet (because naming is haaard) but I got to use my all-time favourite colour combo!
Still siblings, after everything.
This is the last page I had planned for this story! I might add some extra goofy bits to it later.

lovely character. i need him to finally break down sobbing clutching his chest like it'll stop the pain crumpling to the floor begging God to either help him or let him die
