So y’all know the classic edge trope of “my blade cannot be sheathed until it has tasted blood”? What if a magic sword that has that requirement, except it’s sort of inverted. A sword that, instead of being inhabited by an evil spirit which once awakened cannot be lulled back to sleep except by blood sacrifice, was inhabited by a benevolent spirit who would not allow the sword to be drawn unless bloodshed were the only possible solution. A sword whose power could never be misused because it would only allow itself to be used in situations where it was justified. What about a Paladin who spends their entire journey fighting with a sheathed sword, incapacitating but never killing or maiming. The party believes that the Paladin has taken an oath of no killing, until they face the big villain. And it is in that moment, and that moment alone, that the sword will allow itself to be drawn.
Idk, this image set my mindwheels a-turning.
But do y’all see the vision?
i gotta say in hindsight dalinar wishing renarin pride just before he eats it is so hilariously on-the-nose supportive older liberal that, to me, it loops back around to being in-character. dalinar is #LoveMyGaySon at #UrithiruPride
You’re in her dms, I’m in those cryptic, prophetic dreams she keeps having. We’re not the same

Rereading mistborn rn, realizing the logbook has some crazy lore drops:
“He shall defend their ways, yet shall violate them.
He will be their savior, yet they shall call him heretic.
His name shall be discord, yet they shall love him for it.”
Something I’ve found to appreciate about Ruin’s writing, despite my many issues, is that Ruin is change. However, Ruin doesn’t represent the typical definition of change. If Ruin wasn’t around Preservation, if not the Lord Ruler, would forever keep the world stagnant. Ruin transforms things, this is seen through Hemalurgic constructs. But Ruin doesn’t create, invent, or make things grow for the sole sake of those purposes. He does those things with the ultimate goal of decaying or breaking things down. Ruin is decay and entropy.
Ruin creates/invents a web of information which guides people towards a situation where a useless metal kills an immortal ruler. He helps Spook grow into a competent revolutionary, with the goal of having him cause the destruction of Urteau.
But if Preservation and Ruin are together in one Shard, it becomes a force that understands the necessities of BOTH stagnation/stability AND decay. A force that understands why both are necessary in the cosmere and society. And understands how to implement them. Harmony/Discord cares for the Elendel Basin, but knows its stagnation and coddling must eventually be removed for its society to grow.
huuuuge fan of little phrases you can add to the end of your sentences just for fun. "if you even care" and "btw" and "I fear" have done sooo much for my vocabulary. if you even care
