testing out how the carboard cutout concept works in the 3D environment (placeholder colours)
basic concept for “cardboard cutouts” for the in-game characters: aiming to mix Jess’s 2D drawings with the 3D environment.
basic environment + ui concepts
the character designs are drawn over sketches by Jess
Huevember #2: #edef00
30min speedpaint (well, one hour, but interspersed watching markiplier’s playthrough of Undertale which took half of that hour haha) (I can’t concentrate on anything if there’s a video playing so I can’t do the “let’s have a movie in the background! that @little-smartass is able to do)
Huevember #1: #e6ff00
I’ve made colour wheels to use huevember to practice James Gurney’s Gamut mask exercise. Feel free to use them. The first is the colours chosen in the original post on huevember, while the second is the more mathematically accurate colour wheel, where each of the hues in the first wheel can be found by the position of a small white spot.
Inktober dump: the requests.
Prompts beneath the cut:
Bonus: “Sofa Hunting”
1. @lenleg as a dragon with @mrsmarymorstan , plus @little-smartass playing a harp? Jess doesn’t play the harp no-one knows why Anna requested that
2. “Flying Tigers”
3. a border collie picture, requested by @tpoross
4. “volcano people”
5. “pig latin”
6. ”blood moon”
7. “If the world were somehow enslaved by hyper intelligent bees (look the same as regular bumble bees). What would it look like? A scene from everyday life.“
8. “a potato, singular, with a moustache“ : @lenleg
9. “The alpacalypse ..(alpaca related end of the world)“
10. “Merpeople swimming with jellyfish“
please help me with my coursework by ranking a few series of images on this survey!
many thanks everyone (:

inktober! at the request of @mrsmarymorstan, herself upon a dragon who is actually @lenleg, accompanied by @little-smartass playing a harp.
Inktober #8! *Mettaton Voice* Your idol and mine, the lovely muscled gay fish lass, Undyne the Undying! *the crowd goes wild*
Inktober #7
Inktober 5 and 6. Mustachioed potato at the request of @lenleg , with a little Book of Life reference thrown in
Inktober 4! whenever I’m stuck for theme, I invariably draw surreal beautiful women. (Holler @ ladies who keep the fluff on your cheeks, keep being fab. unfortunately here it’s less visible after I coloured it but oh well it’s there).
[This one’s blue because in my small collection of rarely-used copics I have a total of 0 skin colours. ]
Bonus: Inktober 3, which I forgot to upload yesterday
In honour of my Fave Strange Film, “Princess Raccoon”. It’s truly an experience. (and no, unfortunately the raccoons in this film don’t look like raccoons. But they do wear kimonos...)
Inktober 2: probably the silliest crossover I will ever entertain. Captain America + Peridot + Bill Cipher = The Dorito Triforce. (I've just noticed Steve's hands are the wrong way around. Darn it)
Inktober! Here's to sticking to it. Feat. littlesmartart
The full game dev team (so far)! Jess Thomas is in charge of characters and narrative, Eireni Moutoussi is in charge of gameplay and environments, and the team of Yuvesh Tulsiani, Bashar Saade and Will Meaton are doing the programming.
Jess and Eireni study Graphic Design and Illustration at Loughborough University, while Yuvesh, Bashar and Will are studying Game Programming at Goldsmith’s University.
(stealth graphic design! surprise!)
I can’t wait for uni to start again... I’m finding myself pretty-ing plans I’m making for the-cafe-project

Surreally, the ambient light made the pre-dawn look brighter than the sunrise.
A tree for the wall in mum’s kitchen. Mostly PaintToolSai, some Krita and Gimp.
Stickers etc on redbubble

Aberford poster! wow 50s ads sure had ridiculous blocks of text. Who even read that stuff I mean really.
Pleeease sketchypandagames let them have ridiculously exaggerated silhouettes a la tf2 or disney infinity. Of this I beg. I really want to see a teenie tiny Peggy, Betty is the Most Fab, Doris is a liiittle old-fashioned and has long hair (!no one did that in the 50s!!?!) and Sylvia is mildly inspired by my Nanna who is over 6foot tall (but personality wise could not be more different).
I reckon Sylvia would be used to talking down to everyone bc it would a) be something she picked up as an academic, in the common way elitist intellectuals do, and b) be something she picked up as a woman in a male dominated field from men who didn’t know better. Betty on the other hand would be used to dealing with people who expect her to be inferior, as a woman and being black, which would make for an interesting dynamic between the science gals. Betty would be more practically experienced and Sylvia would be more theoretically knowledgeable.
drawin an Aberford thing yeah! Betty is probably my fave (but they’re all my faves rly tbh) sketchypandagames (I rly hope they dont release more designs for her and Sylvia between now and when I post the final one cause i’ll have the wrong designs haha)
I bet you forgot my degree is also in Graphic Design! Thought I’d do some 50s “Swiss style” (which was used primarily for poster and book design) compositions for sketchypandagames’ ‘Aberford’ (I am too excited about this)
(those are skillets btw)
(becomes increasingly frustrated at how different the colours are on each screen) (The top one isnt as mathematically precise as it would have been at the time so I might get around to fixing it some day) (also the font its a bit lazy haha)
Aberford by sketchypandagames : aka what I’d actually spend time doing and actually properly researching if I actually had time and wasn’t on the wrong side of the Atlantic
I will take it personally if there is no Googie architecture in this game. Or if you dont hire a graphic designer who makes the most of a word like Aberford which is an absolute delight typographically.
Latest project was to do with making a looping gif about Prague, where we went on a trip to a few weeks back. Made with Gimp, Krita, Motion and then Gimp again.

Hey look it's me
Eireni Moutoussi is a second year Graphic Design and Illustration student at lborouniversity.
Her incredible artwork featured heavily in Lamplight’s February newsletter. Eireni’s work has previously been published in Label magazine, which is also based at the University. After she has…
More draw-y things for Artemis the 13-yr-old trans-girl freedom flyer - we got rid of the term pirate cause she doesn't actually steal things. She's an outlaw tho, and the government kidnapped her parents and she's on a recue mission to get them back! Most of the crew are part of a minority or two, largely bc we all agreed that representation is important in general, but also bc I have friends who are v precious to me and I wanted to give them some??? sort of representation, as a personal thing. I'll prob post something of those characters too.
The airships, clockwise from top-left (to-scale comparison). In this world, there's a tradition of making everything that flies, ie the major ships and islands, as pretty as possible, "so that on the day it falls, it will be a beautiful wreckage":
her parents' vehicle before they get kidnapped, built for speed and carrying essential supplies; copper-coloured support structure to allude to aid, but a more subtle balloon and ship colour to avoid too much attention.
a government vehicle, built for power+to impress, with vague Ancient Egyptian warship references, with a dark colour balloon bc it's a sign of wealth that they can afford so much dye, to stand out against the gold-plated support, and cause you know, general dictatorship references;
a merchant vessel: murky-yellow balloon bc who has money to bleach/dye that much fabric, not merchants anyway, basic steel support.
Teenie Tiny airship of the Artemis' crew. Blue to vaaaaguely blend in with the sky and generally avoid detection. Bit old-fashioned.
the model sheet is what I drew initially as a reference for the model but have since drawn over + coloured
