Ive come up with the phrase "blorbo-in-law" which is a fictional character who isn't, like, YOUR blorbo from YOUR shows but it is your mutual's blorbo who you nevertheless have developed strong opinions about due to long term dash exposure

“wherever she goes, death follows…”

— maybe, but so do you and so does may.

they spend months looking for her after hive— exhausting resources trying to bring her back during.

coulson follows her into an old alien tunnel.

may follows her back into that prison full of watchdogs.

they quite literally carry her back to the main timeline even if it means she never forgives them.

“…wherever she goes, may and coulson follow.”

I really don't like it when people try to present Team Cap and Team Iron Man as being the same thing, bc they're very clearly not? (And sorry for doing this type of discourse in 2025, but it needs to be said)

Because let's be honest, the mainline MCU didn't really focus on the Sokovia Accords past Civil War. It's not present in Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Homecoming (at least in a large capacity), certainly not Ragnarok or GOTG 2, Black Panther, and almost no one cares by Infinity War. When we look at the projects post Accords, there are hardly any moments where they matter, and by 2025, they're fully repealed. Nine years of being active, five of whom were during the Snap, meaning only four years, and most of the projects don't go very in depth. That tends to lead mainline audiences into believing it was never that bad in the first place and that Cap was being selfish

But we see how the Accords really effect everyday powered people in the supplemental material like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. After being introduced, powered people had three options

Go into hiding. Live a normal life. Never show off your abilities

Sign the Accords. If you were part of a government agency like S.H.I.E.L.D., it is heavily implied you had to sign or you couldn't work for them anymore

Don't sign and show off your powers? You go to the Raft

This went for everyone, it didn't matter if your power was making farts smell good, you counted as powered. Imagine the bank down the street is getting robbed, with these in place, you couldn't do anything about it if you weren't signed or you risked going to jail; they're awful options

Or what if you were signed? Great, now all your information (powers, weaknesses, danger level, LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU) is held in a massive server that can be easily hacked and accessed. We see in AoS s4 that signed Inhumans are getting harmed bc the Watchdogs, a hate organization, was able to get their hands on their information and find out exactly where they were. POWERED PEOPLE WORE TRACKERS THAT WAS CONSTANTLY BEING UPDATED ON THEIR LOCATION. THAT'S FUCKING WRONG IN SO MANY WAYS

Let's switch gears for a sec here and go to another side, where thankfully, that isn't happening to you, but you do wanna make some kind of change in your community. You notice that people are going missing, that there's weird power outages and decide that's worth looking into, so you go to the council and present your case. Now, as we all know, politicians never agree on anything, so the chance of getting an immediate yes is almost impossible (I'd argue 1% is far too generous in this case). It may take weeks, months, or the decision is swept under the rug and oopsies, now the entirety of Florida is covered by a blanket of darkness!

Or you get a no, and actually, they want you to check out this tiny little village in New Zealand, and so you have no choice but to go. You quickly realize that this isn't really worth your time and feel like your services are required elsewhere, but again, you're not able to back out. When you return, you find that London has been utterly destroyed. This is a situation that Steve himself brings up, and it's something that absolutely could happen! There are just endless risks to this

Then, of course, the worst scenario, being sent to the Raft, which, bc it's in international waters, they can do whatever they want to you!! Doesn't matter if it's inhumane, no one can do shit about it. It's stated in "Jessica Jones" that prisoners aren't allowed to have any contact with the outside world, and if you go in there, you go in for good. Almost no one makes it out. Again, it doesn't matter who you were and what your powers were, you would be stuck inside with the worst of the worst. WANDA MAXIMOFF WAS IN A SHOCK COLLAR AND STRAIGHTJACKET. How in any situation is that okay??

Steve understood this, understood the true consequences of handing themselves over to hundreds of governments. He wasn't against having regulations (neither am I) but he knew this wasn't the right way to go

One side holds all the power. The other holds nothing. This is in no way equal

This is an interesting thing I'm noticing as I'm reading but it kinda seems to me like a lot of the Tolkien characters all seem to have elemental symbolism that seems to follow their characterization.

Like Gandalf and Bilbo both seem to have a lot of fire symbolism that follows them around. Gandalf uses light and fire as kind of his two go to weapons and he's the keeper of the ring of Narya which is the fire one. And of course Gandalf the White is forged out of flame. And then Bilbo's introduced in the middle of smoking, and he spends a lot of time hanging around campfires and hearths, like the campfire storyteller he is. He seems to like hanging out in the Hall of Fire at Rivendell, and his conflict with Smaug obviously also involves a lot of fire. He's also arguably the character who is closest to Gandalf.

Frodo on the other hand is like all water imagery. One of the first things we learn about Frodo is his parents were weirdos who hung out in boats and then drowned, and he's introduced filling drinks at Bilbo's party. He makes his stand against the Nazgul at the river. He himself nearly drowns like three times in the story, and spends a lot of time in boats, being haunted by dark waters, and the sound of the ocean (and of course ends the story going over the sea). Like the water symbolism with Frodo is nonstop and he shares that in common with Gollum, who specifically is characterized by pools, rivers, and lakes, as well as fish, worms, mud and roots and caves—very wet and slimy compared to Frodo's more mariner/wayfinder imagery. But they're still kind of two sides of the same coin.

Pippin and Merry get a lot of plant and tree symbolism. Besides hanging out with ents and drinking tree wine and that time they both got eaten by a tree, it's clear Merry grew up wandering forests and knows a lot about wild plants (and writes a book on it later) and Pippin gets a ton of association with Gondor, y'know, that place that is represented by a big ol' tree. Their tobacco leaves too actually kinda play a pivotal role, and are again, very plant focused.

You'd think Sam would also be more earth oriented, being he's a gardener, but not really? Unlike Merry who's out here spitting plant facts 24/7 and working on his plant book, Sam's interest in plants seems like to only be around when he's on the clock. His symbolism is all very celestial. He's the guy who ends up using the Star of Earendil. He sees Earendil while he and Frodo are walking through Mordor. He evokes Elbereth, the Star Goddess like multiple times. He names his daughter after the star-sun shaped flower Elanor which literally means "Sun and Stars." And if you think about it, Gardener is actually kind of a perfect role for a star-guy when you remember how dependent plants are on the sun. He also seems to share some kind of connection with Galadriel who is also caked in a lot of star imagery. It also tracks he'd be paired with Frodo thematically as he serves as a guiding light to a mariner, in contrast to how Gollum represents the depths.

IDK what all that means, I just think it's neat!

A tweet from MicroFlashFic: I was out getting water when they followed me home and asked about the spare room.

I didn't want to say they could use it, but I did because it felt like I was supposed to. That's never happened before.

I've always wanted a purpose. I just thought it would be grander, somehow.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: This is awkward. Dinners should be lively things. Stories. Arguments. Jokes. Everyone is picking at their bread, staring at their cups.

Wouldn't it be nice to say goodbye with something other than goodbye? To break and divide the moment? Share it? Take it with you when you go?
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: Water changes how you see the world, even if it never touches your eyes. When your feet were covered in dust, the room was familiar; now that they’re clean, it feels like a threat.
You carefully fasten your sandals. And just for a moment, you resent being given something to lose.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: I like to rank my temptations. I find it's easier to fight what I understand. Usually, I'd put pride at the top of the list.
But now that I'm sleepy, sloth is making a very compelling case. Not just rest, but release. Abandonment. Floating away. It's so hard to say 'no' to that.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: You’d expect there to be some fanfare; this was almost casual.
I gushed blood from the hole where my ear used to be. It only hurt for an instant, just long enough to know it was real.
Then a few words were said and I was whole again. But the world sounded different after that.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "Why won't you let me help you? Just say the right things, and we can make this all look like a big misunderstanding. I'm not a bad guy; I know the system is broken. But we're not going to fix it today, and I've got my own skin to save. So play the part. Let me do what I can."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: No one likes pain but at least it's finite, bounded within a space, a time, a body. When it is over, it is over. It becomes easy to pretend it wasn't that bad. But loneliness sticks to everything. Look out at the crowd; count the faces who aren't there. That's the real torture.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: I wanted to be special, to be remembered.
But I was never the smartest, so I became a crook.
I was never the toughest, so I stuck to petty theft.
And I was never the luckiest, so I got caught.
Now I'm being upstaged by the guy next to me.
Even my death isn't about me.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: Pain's hard to measure. What unmakes one person inconveniences another. You can stand right over someone and not understand their suffering.
This one didn't seem too anguished but he was gone before the crowd had their fill.
People think torture's easy. But there's an art to it.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "Everyone says, 'they look so peaceful,' when confronted with a dead loved one. But I think the dead look angry, about how they were treated, what they lost, and what they left behind. We want them to be at peace; they want us to share their anger. No one gets what they want."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: “Everyone knows that if someone says ‘Let me know if there’s anything I can do,’ they’re not actually offering to do anything.
But she asked, ‘Can we borrow your tomb?’ like it was a cart she could return in a week. I said yes out of shock, but I know I’m never getting it back.”
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "'What will you do with the body?' they ask. That's an absurd question. Don't you know the story is over? Close the book, roll up the scroll, break the tablets— do what you need to do. But do not ask me what comes next. History is finished. I will not take part in the epilogue."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "Nice cloak."
"Thanks."
"Where'd you get it?"
"Work."
"No one you work with dresses like that."
"I didn't get it from a coworker. I got it at work. Let it go."
"Did you steal a dead man's clothes again?"
"I didn't steal it, I won it. And what's he going to do? Come back for it?"
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "At the end, he looked at me and said his friend was my son now, and I was his mother.
I've gone along with everything, but...this is hard. Neither of us knows who is meant to comfort who. We sit in a silence we couldn’t hear alone, measuring each other against what we’ve lost."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "I wish someone would just ask. Wherever I go, their eyes follow. I know they're thinking: 'Weren't you?' 'Didn't you?' 'Couldn't you?' Yes, yes, yes. All of it. But those aren't the real question. They want to know what I'm going to do about it. Nothing. The answer is nothing."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "Here's something they don't tell you: There's a day after the worst day of your life. People will expect you to eat and sleep and talk and breathe as if the world wasn't over. The only thing worse is knowing there will be another day and another, for who knows how long."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "Let's say, hypothetically, the last few years of your life revolved around an idea. And suppose you found out that, maybe, that idea was wrong. What would you do? Pretend it never happened? Find another idea? Or wait around, hoping you missed something? Asking for a friend."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "All my life, whenever I have a problem, people fall over themselves to give me bad advice. It's not helpful but it's encouraging. Like they're saying, 'This is fixable. We haven't given up on you.' Not now. Everyone's avoiding me. I'm starting to wonder if I'm the one who died."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "We're not getting out of this alive."
"Nobody does."
"But we're going sooner and harder than most."
"Could we say we've reformed?"
"Not after what we've seen."
"Could we disappear?"
"They'd find us."
"So there's nothing we can do?"
"There's one thing."
"What?"
"We can earn it."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "Turning down work doesn't make sense, not in this economy. But guarding a tomb doesn't feel right. There's something unsavory about the notion that a dead man needs protection. Who are you protecting him from? Or maybe it's the other way around. Oh, that would be so much worse."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: Something is happening in there. There are lights, voices, footsteps where there should be silence. Marcus backs away from the entrance. His mind skips over whether to stay or go and leaps into how he'll excuse his absence. Robbers? Illness? He runs. He'll figure it out later.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: The guards are long gone by the time it happens. They do not hear the voice. But every bird within a day's flight is awake. Silently they gather in trees, and under bushes, and even atop the stone. Their little heads are all titled to one side, listening to the world change.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: This is what the darkness does not comprehend: The victory does not happen once. It is built into the turning so that if you denounce the dawn, it still comes. Deny spring and flowers still bloom. Kill love itself and it will walk out of the grave each day to welcome you home.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: "The angel was beautiful. But I didn’t appreciate how strange it was until I tried to look away. It was always there. It didn't move, it just was wherever you looked. I wanted to ask a million questions. Then it told me why it had come, and all I can remember is running."
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: The news is so odd it makes your vision blur. Next thing you know, you're sprinting out of the city to see. You can't feel your legs; you can feel your heartbeat though. You might die if you keep it up. But that's okay, so long as you get to see the truth for yourself first.
A tweet from MicroFlashFic: “The sun sets, then rises.
The snow falls, then melts.
The river floods then it recedes.
We eat of the land; then the land eats us; then we are replaced.
Sometimes, it feels like the only true thing you can say about this world is: 'It turns.'
And yet, I was still surprised.”

MicroFlashFic on Twitter did a lovely series for Holy Week and I wanted them preserved in one place.

All tweets described/text copied into the alt text for each screenshot.

Darcy’s introduction in Pride and Prejudice is really ‘what if you had just had the worst month of your life because your ex-bestie tried to lover boy scam your baby sister out of her share of your dad’s life insurance and your friend dragged you to a shitty party in a dive bar in the neighbourhood where he’d just signed a short term lease, and you decided to let your bad mood show because you were never going to see any of the assholes in this stupid shitty bar EVER again. And your friend ended up making out with a girl he’d just met there while you were stuck talking to her sister who was less cute and then her mother appeared and started trying to matchmake and started saying how if she was twenty years younger she’d clime you like a redwood and ooooh is that a black Amex, guess the next round is on you hahhahahahaha, while her other sister (how many fucking sisters does she have?!) flashed an obviously fake ID at the bar and ordered six vodka-diet red bulls and no one in her family except the less-cute sister even tried to stop her. And you went home and consoled yourself that you would never see any of these people again but then you met them over and over again because they live next door and your friend and the cute sister keep meeting up to make out but not actually date and then. You fall in love with the less-cute sister because it turns out she’s really witty and charismatic but she already knows and remembers and resents the fact that on a day when you were in a shitty mood you called her mid out loud in a dive bar.’

Good Friday

Good Friday

The more you think about it, the worse it gets.

No part of the Passion Gospel, the Gospel for Good Friday, has any hope.

Even the tender moments – Jesus asking John to take care of his mother, Joseph and Nicodemus making sure that Jesus has a proper burial – they’re just people dealing with the fallout from death.

You know what Joseph and Nicodemus are thinking about while they’re wrapping Jesus’ body up for burial? How much this sucks.

And whether the Romans will stop at killing Jesus. Or will they, and other followers of Jesus, be next?

The more you think about it, the worse it gets.

You know what Joseph and Nicodemus aren’t thinking about? How anything good can come from this.

Much less how God is already using all of it to do more good than either of them, or anyone on Good Friday, could ever imagine.

And yet, you and I know, that’s exactly what’s happening. Because you and I know something that Joseph and Nicodemus don’t know. Not on that worst of Friday’s.

They don’t know that Sunday is coming.

But that’s how it is, when you’re where they are. When you are right in the middle of the very worst.

When you and I are right in the middle of the very worst, there is nothing that human eyes can see to tell us that it’s ever going to get any better.

When that’s where you are, the only open question is whether it’s going to get worse.

In the middle of everything that you are dealing with right now – whether it’s death or illness, divorce or the end of a friendship, job loss or financial problems – while you’re waiting to see whether you’ve hit bottom or if it’s going to get worse. You get Joseph and Nicodemus. You are right there with them.

The more you think about what you’re dealing with, the worse it gets.

There’s nothing that our human eyes can see to tell us that anything good can come from what you’re going through.

And yet, you and I know, that’s not true.

Because you and I know something. Something that’s easy to lose sight of when you’re in the middle. Something that’s hard to hold onto when you’re scared.

But it doesn’t matter. It’s okay if we lose sight of it. Because it’s still true. Even if we’re scared.

Today is Good Friday. And Good Friday shows us that none of it, not even the very worst, can hold down our God.

Because Sunday is coming.

John's Passion narrative has a never-ending fascination for me, because it's where you get Jesus at his most divine--knowing everything that was going to happen, making the guards fall to their faces when he speaks the name of God--while the people around him are at their most human.

There's an entire political drama going on. Pilate the Roman pagan getting dragged into this provincial Jewish religious dispute. These Jewish leaders and Jesus providing different visions of truth to a politician who doesn't care what the truth is. There's extremely sharp political back-and-forth between the Roman and the Jewish authorities--the Pharisees trying to force Pilate's hand by saying that everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar, then Pilate backing them into proclaiming Caesar as their king and twisting the knife of pettiness by labeling Jesus as the Jewish king in four different languages while He hangs on the cross.

Petty, personal, political human drama taking up all their attention.

And meanwhile, God is dying.

Happy Good Friday ✝️

Happy Good Friday ✝️

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”-Genesis 3:15 KJV

Even as far back as the book of Genesis, God revealed His plan of salvation for mankind. That even though the devil (the serpent) would decieve and manipulate to bring sin into the world, and have Christ crucified (bruise His heal), it would all be in vain! Christ would arise the third day, defeating death and the devil! (bruise his head)
