Esteban's team radio after the race ☹
pairing: fedyor/ivan word count: 500+ a/n: hi, i’m back, this time with a little drabble about fedyor and ivan saying goodbye right before fedyor goes to find nina and ivan goes with the darkling to find alina. also known as ‘foreshadowing: the drabble’ hope you enjoy!
Fedyor leaves the Darkling’s office with an uneasy feeling in his stomach. Sure, they have been split up before, gone on separate missions countless times, but this feels different. There’s a Sun Summoner now, which makes the stakes feel like a billion times higher than they used to be. There’s always been danger, but this time it feels almost tangible.
He follows the faint sound of Ivan’s heartbeat straight to the garden, where he finds Ivan staring out into the forest surrounding the Little Palace.
“What did he say?” Ivan asks, when Fedyor is withing speaking distance. His back is still toward Fedyor, and he can see the tension in Ivan’s shoulder. His hands are clasped behind his back, his knuckles unnaturally white. He’s clearly very tense, and Fedyor is pretty sure what he has to say isn’t going to make it any better.
“I’m going to the west coast, and then north. Arkesk, if we can make it,” he says, as he comes to a halt next to Ivan. And then, even though he’s pretty sure the other man already knows, “He wants you to stay here. Special mission.”
Ivan hums. “We’re tracking the Sun Summoner. Darkling thinks she’s headed north, for some reason.” He pauses for a second, and then. “You’ll have to travel through the fold.” He doesn’t sound worried, but Fedyor can hear the uptick in his heart, can see the worry lines in the corners of his eyes.
“I’ll be fine,” Fedyor says, trying to sound assuring, trying to hide the fact he himself is still absolutely terrified of the fold. “It won’t be my first crossing.”
“The fold doesn’t become safer the more you pass through it,” Ivan says, tension in his voice. “I can’t help thinking about what would happen if-“
“Hey,” Fedyor says, interrupting him. He turns towards his husband, placing a hand on his cheek. “I’ll be fine. If anything, I’m comforted by the fact you don’t have to travel through the fold. You’ve always had a penchant for trouble, after all. The less time you spend in that damned place, the better.” Ivan frowns at him, and Fedyor can’t help but run his thumb over the creases by his eyes. “I’ll be back before you know it. I promise.”
“Still don’t like it,” Ivan grumbles, but the tension is his shoulders seems to have eased a little bit.
“Well, maybe try focusing on things you do like,” Fedyor says, eyes sparkling. “Like me.”
Ivan sends him a deadpan look, but leans closer anyway. “You are ridiculous.”
“And?” Fedyor asks, running his thumb over Ivan’s cheek.
Ivan grumbles a little and then says, “And I love you very much.”
Fedyor grins, delighted. “I love you too,” he says, and then leans in to kiss his husband.
As far as goodbye kisses go, it’s pretty spectacular. When Fedyor does finally pull away, Ivan’s heartrate is way up and there’s a flush on his cheeks. “I’m going to miss you,” Fedyor says, earnestly.
Ivan nods, but that’s all Fedyor needs to know he’s going to miss him, too. “Stay safe.”
“Always,” he says, pressing one last kiss to Ivan’s lips.
He’s already halfway to the fold when he realizes he never told Ivan to stay safe back. Usually he always does, but it must’ve slipped his mind this time. He shrugs it off. Ivan’s only going on a trip north to retrieve the Sun Summoner. Really, what’s the worst that could happen?
WHY ARE THEY LITERALLY MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS LMAOO
Magneto and Quicksilver
Okay, so this question has been plaguing me ever since I finished If We Were Villains and I want to know if anyone else has any opinions.
We obviously know the basic facts about the night of Richard’s death, but I want to focus in on when James, Filippa, and Wren are all huddled up in Wren’s room, trying to comfort her.
This heart of absolute gold literally begs James to go out into the woods to find Richard so he doesn’t do something stupid. Now, from Wren’s perspective, we see James leave the room with the intention of finding Richard. He’s gone for maybe an hour or two, long enough for Pip to get worried and go out to look for him, so now Wren is alone in her room. She knows James (and now Filippa) are both in the woods, looking for Richard.
A few (probably) hours pass when suddenly, I’m assuming, Filippa comes into Wren’s room to tell her something bad has just happened and she needs to get to the lake asap. I’m assuming Pip is the one who tells her because by the time Oliver and Meredith get down there, everyone else is standing around and Pip was the one who summoned those two.
So, in Wren’s mind, the course of actions were: James leaves to find Richard, Filippa leaves to find James (and Richard), time passes, Filippa retrieves Wren from her room, and they all find Richard dead dying in the lake.
Now, when they all agree to let Richard die, they start discussing their separate stories. Where they were at the time of the murder. And Wren makes the statement:
“They’re going to want to know why one of us didn’t go after him.”
- If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (Act III, Scene 1)
…What’s that supposed to mean, Wren? Weren’t you the one who begged James to go find Richard? And didn’t he leave with the sole intention of doing that? What do you mean no one went to go look for him when you know full well that James did?
My theory: Wren knew the whole time. Maybe not everything, but she’s not stupid. It’s too much of a coincidence. And I don’t know what story James and Filippa would have told her to make her think they were innocent, so I’m thinking Wren, like Pip, wanted to protect James.
“She didn’t speak, didn’t even open her mouth–just nodded, slowly. Yes.”
- If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (Act III, Scene 1)
I don’t think she knew the full story, but there is no way she didn’t think James and/or Filippa were hiding more than they were letting on.
This also might be part of the reason why Richard’s death was having such an effect on her. Obviously, losing a family member would be hard on anyone, but the fact that only Wren and James were diagnosed with PTSD and went through the most changes after the death seems very telling.
Not to mention Walton’s later suspicions about Wren:
“My money’s on the cousin,”
- If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (Act III, Scene 11)
Which, like, come on, man. She’s been through enough!
So, if she knew, to some degree, who was really guilty, I’m curious about her reaction to Oliver getting arrested.
“Alexander’s face was so full of sadness that there was no room left for surprise. In Filippa’s expression there was only a desperate kind of confusion. In Wren’s, emptiness. In Meredith’s, something violent I couldn’t find a word to describe. And on James’s face, despair.”
- If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (Act V, Scene 7)
I think the fact that Wren never came to visit Oliver is telling, at least. Was she too guilty, like James, for letting Oliver take the fall? Did she think the whole time James was covering for Oliver? What does she really think happened that night and when does she confront James about it?
She has to have found out the actual truth at some point because, come on, who really wants to hide something like that from the victims family forever?
I just want to know how much she knew and for how long because I think seeing this story from Wren’s POV would be so interesting. At least these scenes.

WARNINGS: super fangirl reader, shipping, ships that not everyone will agree with
“So hear me out,” Y/N announced, walking into the large living room where everyone was gathered. There were a series of groans, everyone knowing exactly what would follow. “Wanda and Bucky.”
Steve looked horrified.
“NO!” Bucky and Wanda screamed.
Y/N laughed. “Hey, I never said I shipped it. But you’ll be surprised how many people do.”
The room fell into a state of silent horror.
Y/N laughed again, turning and walking out of the room.
A few seconds later, a shout of “Winter Witch” could be heard just down the corridor.
•
Everyone looked up in surprise as Y/N burst into the room at a full sprint, skidding to a stop in the middle. She held her phone up in the air. “STEVE AND WANDA,” she shrieked. Both looked at her, horrified and confused. Y/N was laughing so hard she was doubled over, clutching her stomach. “Scarlet America,” she wheezed.
And then she turned and ran out again, still laughing.
“Tony make her stop,” Steve begged.
Tony laughed. “No chance, Capsicle.”
•
The next time, Y/N was literally laughing so hard that she fell through the door. She lay in a heap in front of the door, her body shaking with silent laughter.
Steve sighed. “What now?”
“HAWKSILVER,” came the muffled reply, and she started laughing louder. She looked up, tears streaming down both cheeks. “Clint and Pietro.”
And then she crawled - literally crawled - away.
Tony burst out laughing.
•
The whole team was more than a little shocked and confused when they heard Y/N’s laughter from the ceiling. And then they became even more confused by what happened next.
Y/N fell from the ceiling. There was no simpler way to put it. Everyone looked up to the sound of the cover on the ceiling vent falling, and then Y/N followed after it.
“Did you crawl through the vents to get here?”
“You locked the door,” Y/N replied.
Then she stood up, laughing again. “You’re gonna love this one.
“NO,” everyone shouted.
“CapIron,” she said anyway.
The room went silent. Then, everyone except Steve, Bucky and Tony burst into laughter.
“Y/N, c'mon. What about Pepper?” Tony looked genuinely wounded.
“Y/N, no,” Steve said at the same time.
Bucky just looked mortified, as he glared at Tony, edging closer to Steve, who didn’t even seem to notice.
Y/N laughed, before turning and leaving the room, only stopping to unlock the door.
“No one is safe,” Clint hissed.
•
“That should stop her,” Tony announced, strolling calmly into the room.
Natasha looked up. “What did you do?”
Tony smirked. “I cut off the Internet connection to her phone.”
“Oh so now you stop her,” Steve muttered, “when it’s convenient to you.”
Tony shrugged. “Don’t be a baby, Capsicle.”
In the distance, they heard a shout. “I HAVE MOBILE DATA, YOU ARSEHOLE! ALSO THERE’S A CAFE WITH FREE WIFI OVER THE ROAD. SO JOKES ON YOU BITCH!”
Tony hung his head and groaned. Natasha laughed at him.
•
Y/N was unusually calm as she walked into the living room that morning. Because of this, everyone was suspicious.
Tony, Wanda, Clint, Pietro, Bucky and Steve, her usual victims, narrowed their eyes at her.
“Okay, okay, I’ve got one more for you,” Y/N announced.
“Y/N, no,” Steve replied sternly. “Just no.”
“Stucky,” Y/N said. There was no laughter, no amusement, just the name.
“Oh,” Steve said. He looked at Bucky, who shrugged.
“Oh,” Bucky repeated. “That’s not so bad. Much better than all the others.
Y/N looked like she was about to faint, scream, or both. “STUCKY SHIPS STUCKY,” she shrieked.
And then she did both. With a loud excited scream, she dropped to the ground, and proceeded to sob into the crook of her elbow.
Steve and Bucky smirked, while everyone else watched with concern.
Natasha stood up and walked over to her. “Are you okay?”
“YES! NO! I DON’T KNOW!” The girl let out a loud wail.
Smiling, Natasha leant down, and helped the girl up. Leading her out the door, she turned and smiled at Steve and Bucky.
When they reached the door, Y/N turned with tear streaked cheeks, and pointed at Steve and Bucky. “OTP,” she whispered dramatically.
My favourite dynamic 🥰
“’…In sadness, cousin, I do love a woman.’ For a moment, I forgot which line of mine followed. We stared at each other, and the crowd faded around us into indistinct shadow and set dressing. With a jolt I remembered my words, but not quite the right ones. ‘Be ruled by me,’ I said, a few lines too soon. 'Forget to think of her.’”
