genuinely. there is something So disgusting to me about them building an entire season around

a villain who targets people who are already struggling and implied to be suicidal

the unjust demonization, alienation, and persecution of people who are different, namely those who are poor, neurodivergent, gay, etc.

and then those two building blocks of the season end with:

a poor, abused, suicidal teenage girl who fought tooth and nail to keep going ultimately being tortured to death and then stuck in a coma with all of her fucking bones snapped and her sight potentially gone

a poor boy who struggles in school and is an outcast and treated like a freak for being himself, who only wants to fucking graduate high school and be a better person than his shitty father being falsely accused of murder, hunted down by people who want to kill him, painted as a coward by the narrative for making reasonable choices, ultimately dying a pointless death and being remembered as a murderer.

like. not to even mention the way that a gay kid's struggle with his sexuality and feelings for his best friend are ultimately just used to push that friend closer to his girlfriend. like. god i'll probably end up writing something more articulate about this later but i am So deeply disappointed and i don't understand why the duffers would choose to engage with these themes if This is how they were gonna handle them.

what steddie fics were you reading that affected you so strongly? (you don't have to share if you don't want to, just curious and in need of good steddie fics lol)

HELLO FRIEND WELCOME TO THE RECOMMENDATION ZONE

so the fic in particular that made me have Many Feelings was sub-culture by @palmviolet. it's post s4 but isn't spoilery for the finale (as it was written beforehand), and it deals with 80s queer culture and social dynamics and how all of that would affect the fact that Steve suddenly finds himself attracted to Eddie after they save Hawkins. It's really about Steve's journey of understanding, so the sexual identity explorations are really good, but there's also an incredible window in Eddie's experience as well.

I particularly enjoy the juxtaposition of what it might have been like to exist as a bi person (who represses their homosexual attraction without realising, as many people do) vs a gay person in an American small town in the 80s. It's so so so so good and I think everyone should read it regardless of whether they like Stranger Things tbh. the kids are also really well written and every time Max is there she's hilarious in the best way. and the music recs!!! *chef's kiss*

Feet On The Ground, Head In The Stars is another recommendation from @lukeskqwalker — haven't read it yet, but also looks promising if you like queer culture stuff (which I dooo)

Camp Folktale, Summer of '86 was recommended on @mardyart's blog by one of their followers... @mardyart does a lot of summer camp au drawings (they're amazing) and this fic might be one of the dozens that this art has inspired!

Legit as a queer Hoosier this made me cry, but in a good way. It’s wonderful having our history preserved.

So, apparently the Chris Gonzales GLBT Archives has digitized The Works, a queer newsletter for Indianapolis that ran from the 1960s to the late 1980s, which is a pretty cool resource just generally but also might be of particular interest to any Stranger Things fic writers out there.

Hey guys, if you have the time please click this link and go view the AIDS memorial quilt. As of last year, all 1.2 million feet of the quilt has been photographed and made viewable to the public.

As such a cornerstone to our community as queer people, the AIDS quilt was a sign of love and remembrance of all who were lost. And for some, with no solution in sight. What a wonder science is, because living as HIV/AIDS positive is no longer a death sentence. It is a treatable and manageable disease. We can live full and happy long lives and not transmit the disease.

When it was intitially unveiled, the quilt had about 2,000 panels and it was now bloomed into 48,000. The majority of them measuring 6'3". About the size of a grave.

I urge you to take the time to treasure, understand, and support our community. As their lives and the queer movement- have brought undoubtable freedom as we live in our own.

Making a quilt can take countless of hours. And a quilt of this size, it’s a whole generations worth.

Love your queer elders. Love your gay history. Live free, today.

If there was a sci-fi novel with a megalomaniac billionaire who was the son of an Apartheid emerald mine owner, and he was privatizing space exploration so the public no longer has a say in it...you know that would be considered bad, right? The heroes would fight to stop SpaceX.

The fact that anyone considers SpaceX as anything other than a continuation of the transfer of public sector science, that was run for the public good, into the hands of billionaires is a testament to our propaganda. Having space exploration controlled by one billionaire is bad.

Remember in the 60s when rockets launched and the credit was given to the scientists and astronauts that actually made it happen?

Now it's given to the billionaire who pillaged NASA tech and is now using it as his playground and promotion for his cars. That's bad. SpaceX is bad.
