Sat, 30th July - 12:39 i'm back woahhh. this is going to be longgg. the first day of ncs was definitely the worst, but it was still interesting. i got to meet my group and surprisingly most were from my town, i was expecting it to be a lot more mixed with people from different places. the majority of my group (16 people including a Group Leader (GL) and Assistant Group Leader (ATL). in all honesty, my GL was overly enthusiastic and too strict but i really liked my ATL she was super duper cool (i'll talk about her more later) . the part that dragged it down was mainly expectations icl. i thought the place would be a lot nicer than what it actually was (we were expecting cabins but actually stayed in tents, the bathrooms being public were not amazing and the layout was kind of awkward) the food (a poorly made pie) was awful but it slowly got better through the week. the second day was mainly games - we did have a mini olympics but i didn't take part in much so i can't really talk about that - debates, getting to know eachother and a presentation on a sensitive topic - creating a social media campaign which was really cool, one group did a whole rap and it was vibes but they somehow didn't win :(. i made sooo many friends during free time who were mainly from my hometown which i was super happy about. there was some typical teenage drama and oml, tiktok was really not lying when they called it a teenagers love island because it literally was. the third day there was an almost 7-8 hour hike which included lots of activities, it was super sunny out and everyone wanted to go home after the torture but then it was just more free time, small games and activities and chilling so it all calmed down. it did not feel like as short as a time as it was. the days go SLOWWWW. so many instances where i thought it was like 3pm and it was only 11:45am. head on over to pt 2 bc i ended up being so long tumblr would not let me post it lol!
since i’ve finished year ten and am just starting year 11, i thought i’d offer some advice for those of you starting year 10:
1. make your notes as you go along - it’s so much easier to revise effectively when you’ve already made resources, instead of wasting revision time making notes. this also means that you have notes ready when you go into year 11.
2. ask questions - when you have a question, write it down and ask your teacher next lesson. not only does this make sure that you know the content while you’re learning it, it helps you become more involved in your subjects and shows your teacher that you’re willing to take initiative and learn for yourself.
3. use revision resources - i would recommend getting revision guides (e.g. the cgp books) in year 10 and using them to guide your revision throughout the year. if you don’t want to write on the books until year 11 then you can use a separate notebook to answer the questions.
4. REVISE FOR YOUR EXAMS - i cannot emphasise the importance of this enough. if revise and work for exams in year 10 then you’ll have already started learning the content that you’ll need to know in year 11. this means that you don’t have to revise as intensely for year 11 mocks and eventually your acutal gcses.
5. if you regret your options, switch while you can - some schools may not do this, but in my school we have a four week grace period at the start of year 10 where we can try out our option choices and change them if we want to. if you have a few lessons and find out that one of your subjects actually isn’t for you, see what you can do about switching to something you find easier/more fun/more interesting. i find that enjoying a subject will motivate me to work hard at it, so it’s super important to be studying things you enjoy.
6. concentrate in lessons - it may seem that as your gcses are in a year, you don’t need to work hard or concentrate in your lessons, but please don’t be the person who has to learn everything in year 11. it’s likely that you won’t revisit your year 10 topics in depth in year 11, so concentrate and learn them while the teacher is teaching you.
7. seek help if you need it - year 10 can be a pretty stressful time, what with a new course, new teachers, new classes and a bigger workload. if you feel like you need help, be it with academic problems, physical health or mental health, please please please ask for help. there is absolutely no shame in asking someone to help you, and it will honestly make everything easier.
8. enjoy yourself - i know this is a generic thing that everyone says, but enjoying yourself and having fun is really important. join clubs, hang out with friends, make the most of having more privileges within school without the stress of gcse exams. as well as a place of learning, school should also be somewhere you can make lasting friendships, memories and have loads of fun.
i hope that these have helped some of you, and good luck to everyone starting year 10, you’ll smash it! xx
i'm gonna be 17 in less than three hours, i hope getting older means all the aching over things from years ago can go away, i feel like im just frozen at a point in time because no matter what i do there's so many things that don't seem to leave. i wish sixth form goes fast and that i can actually get out of this slump thats seemed to have lasted for the longest time now. i have so much work to do from the easter holiday, i had my chromebook confiscated from me but i got it back the other night so i'll need to last minute complete everything. i want to visit my primary school but i'm a bit scared of how different it's going to be, and if my old teachers will actually be happy to see me. my mum wants me to start driving lessons but i feel like with everything going on i won't be able to handle it.
i was supposed to make a birthday playlist post but honestly there's no point because i won't listen to it anyways i hope when school starts again things will be a bit less miserable. that's all for now Amimi
the universe knew I'd be too powerful if I had the capacity to carry on conversations
the person reblogging this from you is rooting for you to have a happy, healthy, and successfull 2022
