Phenex- An Infopost (Short)

Phenex- An Infopost (Short)

Phenex- An Infopost (Short)

Since this is an infopost of a daemon I do not work with, I will share basic info and stuff from basic research I have done, and a seperate section for other's UPG's.

Phenex is a daemon originating from the Livre des Esperitz, Psuedomonarchia, and Lemegeton.

Grimoire appearances

From the Livre des Esperitz:

Fenix is a great marquis who appears in beautiful form, and has a sweet and soft voice, and he is courteous and very obedient of all one wants to ask him about or command him to do, and he does them without dallying; and has 25 legions.

From Psuedomonarchia Daemonum:

Phoenix is a great marquesse, appearing like the bird Phoenix, having a childs voice: but before he standeth still before the conjuror, he singeth manie sweet notes. Then the exorcist with his companions must beware he give no eare to the melodie, but must by and by bid him put on humane shape; then will he speake marvellouslie of all woonderfull sciences. He is an excellent poet, and obedient, he hopeth to returne to the seventh throne after a thousand two hundreth yeares, and governeth twentie legions.

From the Ars Goetia: PHENEX. - The Thirty-Seventh Spirit is Phenex (or Pheynix). He is a great Marquis, and appeareth like the Bird Phoenix, having the Voice of a Child. He singeth many sweet notes before the Exorcist, which he must not regard, but by-and-by he must bid him put on Human Shape. Then he will speak marvellously of all wonderful Sciences if required. He is a Poet, good and excellent. And he will be willing to perform thy requests. He hath hopes also to return to the Seventh Throne after 1,200 years more, as he said unto Solomon. He governeth 20 Legions of Spirits. And his Seal is this, which wear thou, etc.

What he can help with (based on grimoire information, not UPG):

☆Songwriting

☆Musical Magice

☆Poetry

☆The Sciences

☆Anything else you could ask of him (first grimoire appearance)

Others' Experiences:

"Phenex was quite excited when talking to me about the sciences last time I talked to him"-Anonymous

"My experience with Phenex is that he's a patron of amatuers. That is amateur in the original definition, "one who does things out of love." I petition him for aid in creative endeavors, mostly, and he never pushes me to be creative just to meet a standard or to make money. He encourages me to try new things or pick up new artistic skills purely for the joy of creation. I've also noticed he seems to prefer devotional singing, over spoken or silent prayer, at least from me. Singing is one of the things I've asked for his help with, so maybe he considers it a way to keep track of my progress."-Anonymous

SYMBOLISM OF BAPHOMET

SYMBOLISM OF BAPHOMET

Baphomet is obviously androgynous, with female breasts and the very phallic caduceus, representing the union of male and female.

The wings represent spirituality and ascension while the goat’s head represents sin and the animalistic nature of humans.

The wings represent Air and birds, the scales on its belly represent Water and fish, and its hooves represent Earth and mammals. The torch represents Fire.

The gesture that Baphomet is making with its hands represents the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence, “That which is above is like that which is below.” The “above” is the macrocosm, either the literal universe at large or the divine realms. The “below” is the microcosm, life on earth or the human body itself. And if you affect one, you affect the other.

The words on its arms, “solve” and “coagula,” mean “to separate” and “to bring together.” They summarize the alchemical process.

The torch on its head represents intelligence, divine knowledge, and enlightenment, the soul over the body. The pentagram on its head is upright, putting spirit above matter.

The white and black moon represent the sephiroth Chesed and Geburah (respectively), therefore the qualities of mercy and severity (respectively).

The caduceus in its lap, in addition to being a phallic symbol, is representative of magical power, healing, and bringing together of opposites. (Apparently also eternal life.)

The circle behind the caduceus is reminiscent of the Ouroboros, representing the Principle of Mentalism — all of the universe is in the mind of God. It also apparently represents the atmosphere, probably the “cosmic Void,” prima materia.

Baphomet is a personification of the process of magic. And yet for some reason, all people seem to remember is the goat’s head.

Hi there! Hope this isn’t bothersome, but I was curious about one of the deities you mentioned on your blog! Vepar (or maybe Vephar?). As someone who has a deep connection with the ocean myself, I really admire her! But I can’t find any reliable sources about her. Do you think you can help? Thank you for your time!

Hi! You're not bothering me, don't worry! Vepar (or Vephar, both forms are correct) is a fascinating, but rather obscure demon/spirit/deity. The only primary sources for her I managed to find are three short descriptions in grimoires, which are mostly repeating the same things.

I wrote a post about them on my Wordpress blog though, it is based on the information from those texts, cultural associations of water, basic mermaid lore, as well as my experience with him (I tried to make it clear which is which). It includes a list of offering suggestions and a prayer I wrote, and a list of the sources I have used. It is not very long, but maybe it can help. You can check here if you want.

Good luck with your research! And by the way, your profile picture reminds me, I always associated sharks with her.

Eva, Artur Volkmann C.1893

Eva, Artur Volkmann c.1893

I had never seen this sculpture before until today and I have been obsessed with it all day.

Here is Eve looking God in the fucking eye.

Prompted by Lucifer she takes what rightfully belongs to humanity - the knowledge of good and evil. Not afraid of God’s threats, not ashamed of her nakedness, (that goddam sassy hand on the hip!): it’s as if she’s daring him to do anything about it.

This is not a Fall - this is mankind rising up against the tyranny of servitude and the suppression of sexuality. It’s as if she’s grabbing God by the balls.

In medieval paintings of this theme Eve is either portrayed as innocent (pre-apple incident) or ashamed (post-apple incident). Usually Lucifer is depicted also, coiled around the tree. We don’t see Him here but we know He’s in the background, about to be cursed by a vindictive and controlling tyrant.

But He is here. We see Him in Eve: full of pride, rebellion, power, wisdom, and knowledge; unafraid of death and assured of her future. This is not a Fall. This is freedom.

The Ultimate Deity Journal Guide

Similar to my grimoire guide, this is a guide on deity journals.

What Is A Deity Journal?

A deity journal is a journal dedicated to a deity. It’s filled with information, offerings, devotional pieces, etc. If you like journaling or can’t give other physical offerings (like food, libations, etc.), it’s one of the best offerings out there.

What Do I Use For It?

Usually deity journals are physical journals and notebooks. Binders and folders work as well. I have seen deity journals online, using things like Notion or Google Docs. Those are a little harder to format, but are great if you don’t have a notebook or aren’t a fan of physical journals.

Hey do you have any information on Belphegor? I suck at finding info on demons.

Not much, but I’ll give you what I’ve got!

Belphegor is thought to have originated as the Moabite got Baal of Peor or Baal-peor, who is actually referenced rather often in the Bible. He’s also possibly referenced as Chemosh, the Moabite god of war. Here’s what I could think of off the top of my head:

Then they attached themselves to the Ba′al of Pe′or, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead; they provoked the Lord to anger with their doings, and a plague broke out among them.– Psalm 106:27-29

Like grapes in the wilderness, I found Israel. Like the first fruit on the fig tree, in its first season, I saw your fathers. But they came to Ba′al-pe′or, and consecrated themselves to Ba′al, and became detestable like the thing they loved. – Hosea 9:10

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem. – 1 Kings 11:7

And the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, to the south of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ash′toreth the abomination of the Sido′nians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. – 2 Kings 23:13

He’s also referenced in the Dictionnaire Infernal as the demon of discovery and invention, and is supposedly meant to be worshiped while on the toilet with offerings of.. well, you get the picture.

–W
