Your memories only go five years back, to when you woke up in a subterranean tunnel system with nothing but a name. Now you reside in the Holy City, capital of a post-apocalyptic world ruled by a faction called the Religious.
After a near-death experience at the hands of a crazed angel, you're suddenly thrust into a building conspiracy surrounding a corpse-worshiping cult, divinely mad saints, and something buried far, far beneath the earth.
To top it all off, you're being plagued by nightmares you can't explain, as well as your rapidly returning memories.
Or… someone's memories, anyway.

The Mercenary: Val (nb/m/f)
A hired blade with a chaotic streak, as well as the closest thing you have to a friend. Easy-going and unpredictable, Val is usually the one to get you into trouble, but is always there to get you out of it.
The Handmaiden: Klaus Kirkhall (m)
A high-ranking member of the Religious. Klaus is pragmatic with a dry sense of humor, but takes his responsibilities deeply seriously. You get the intense feeling he know something - many things - that you don't.
The Priestess: Ira Auclair (nb)
A priestess working in the lower districts of the Holy City, extremely devout and deeply interested in the history and lore of the Religious. They spend their time searching archives to fuel their (slightly blasphemous) theories.
The Spy: Kat Saxon (f)
Claims to be a priestess, but is barely trying to hide the fact that she's clearly anything but. Her merciless stare and unshakeable confidence dare anyone to call out her suspect nature.
The Muscle: Dane/Dana Constantine (m/f)
An officer of the Blessed Guard, working directly under Klaus. Constantine is quick to anger, and is an absolute brick wall when challenged. While deeply loyal, Constantine isn't afraid to give their employer a piece of their mind.

Leon (M)
Leon is a kind heart, receiving you with open arms from the very first second. He has a calm temper and a strong brain. His amicable and strategic qualities make him the leader of the mercenary group. But it's visible that something dark lurks in his gentle eyes.
He's very tall (1,95m) and athletic, with tan skin and a scar on his lip. His black hair is cut short, and his violet eyes reflect perfectly his calm and serene character.
He wears a light brown shirt, black pants, and dark brown boots.
He fights with a simple silver shield.
Iara (F)
Iara is the second in charge. Her strategic and cold demeanor is enough to compensate for Leon's calm procedure, giving the group an excellent balance. She's quiet and observant but has a soft spot and cares for her companions.
She's tall (1,79m) and has a lean but athletic build. She keeps her curly red hair in a high ponytail. Her golden accessories shine in contrast with her pale skin. She has several scars, but one is more perceptible, crossing her eye, a wound that caused one of her turquoise eyes to be completely pale white.
She wears lightweight golden armor with soft beige fur on her shoulders.
Her golden and bluish-green accessories adorn her neck, ears, and pulse.
She fights with a black and gold whip.
Matheus (M)
Matheus is a charismatic individual. He's clever and very fond of puns and jokes. The young man has quite the ability to read people and has been trying to help you understand your past. As friendly as he is, he seems to have trouble letting people get closer to him.
He's average (1,71m) and lean, with umber skin. His soft brown curls are cut short, and his olive eyes are full of compassion and comprehension.
He wears glasses and a simple sleeveless white shirt combined with baggy pants.
He fights with a silver crossbow with a crow symbol engraved on it.
Dante (M)
Dante is in charge of the magic rituals and enchants. He's a grumpy and hotheaded kind of person. Being a fire Elementalist, he can summon fire, but he's not immune to it, having an arm covered in a burn scar.
He tends to be reserved and doesn't like being touched strangers.
He's average (1,75m) and chubby, with pale skin. His chin-length hair is golden blonde, and his eyes are as red as the flames he summons.
He wears a sleeveless shirt with a turtleneck and black pants. He wears in his right ear two black earrings.
He fights with a saw-toothed silver sword.
Siena (F)
Siena is a cunning woman, always having the right words to escape the most challenging situations. She's very fond of Matheu's, and just like her friend, she loves making jokes and a good fight.
She's short (1,61m) and robust, with olive skin. She has raven long hair that matches her dark eyes.
She wears a long black shirt and greenish baggy pants.
She fights with greenish and silver gauntlets.
Levi (NB)
Levi is cold and seems to hate you for what you are. They are sarcastic and straightforward. They tend to avoid you, but even with their cold distance they seem interested at you. Maybe something in you draws them.
They're tall (1,78m) and athletic, with light brown skin. Their shoulder-length black hair is partially tied in a short ponytail. Their gray eyes seem cold when they look at you. Will they grow warmer with time?
They wear a sleeveless gray shirt and leather pants. And a brown leather arm bracelet.
They fight with silver daggers.

I cannot for the life of me determine if I am over-planning or improvising too hard, but I feel like if I don’t get to the next stage now I’ll never get anything done.
So I wasn’t going to add in ‘Personality Stats’ at first to make things easy on my first try, but I like them and practice makes perfect if I want them in potential future projects.

I’ve been mulling over these for a while now, and will mull again. So as always, things are subject to change.

the sacrificial lamb - the eldest daughter of the town's ruling family. always calm and calculated, upholding order at all costs.
the weak dog - the youngest son of the town's ruling family, not that he would ever associate himself with them. full of charm and wit, he follows his heart and does what he thinks is right.
the bloody devotee - the high priestess to the goddess. confident, cold, and powerful. she doesn't hesitate to go for what she wants, even if she has to step on backs to get there.
the fool - the spoiled heir to most of the farms in town. he's childish and carefree, spending most of his days in the town square singing.

You grew up in the desert city of Akma under Matriarch Azira's House. Like many others who'd lost their parents you were trained to be a skilled member of society, you had many options but none so illustrious as being a god's chosen heir. Yet life is full of surprises.
The Bosom Buddy (she/her)
You've known Periphae, or Peri as most call her, for much of your life. She is your best friend and closest companion. Working under the Fragrant Lotus, a well renowned brothel under Matriarch Azira's control, she has never been much of a fighter. She's a playful gossip who does a horrid job at hiding her anxiety, its hard to accept that she's chosen to venture out with you of her own will.
The Shield (masc/fem selectable)
Eurus is a warrior from the northern region of Illoria who's been trained to fight along side the heir of light all their life. They've anticipated the day where they could fight alongside you, as is their destiny according to the prophecy. They have a carefree 'go with the flow' attitude about most things. Your safety and this quest for the world are not one of those.
The Chosen One The Guide (they/them)
Amani was a priestess that once held the title of the heir of light, they were thought to be the one to inherit the mark of the sun until the Day of Blessings came and it went to you. Now their years of training are being used to help you save all of humanity. A fact that makes them quiet bitter towards you, but Eurus says Amani is haughty and harsh with everyone.
The Raging Tempest (she/her)
Valeska is a warrior from the gloom infested lands of the Mystri, a place full of various nomadic clans. Much like yourself she is a chosen heir of a god, but it is a trait they treat with complete nonchalance. You aren't sure if she's cocky or apathetic, but the heir of storms claims her power is hers alone. All the same she offers you a helping hand on your quest despite not caring much for the cause.
