This is so true
• making yourself sleep deprived • making yourself cold (not wearing warm clothes in the winter, sleeping without a blanket etc) • not eating • not drinking • eating too much • not looking before crossing the street • scratching • letting your skin be dry & break easily • picking at skin • over-exercising • substance abuse • over-working yourself • making yourself go out and do things even though you’re exhausted • putting yourself in anxiety-inducing situations (even if you have a choice to stay out of them) • triggering yourself • purposefully angering someone who you know will yell at you • entering relationships you don’t want to be in/being around people you don’t want to be around • having sex when you don’t want to • setting yourself punishments • not giving yourself time • not letting yourself spend time with the people you love & know will be good to you
stop assuming that self-harm is visible and easy to notice.

WHAT THE HECK!?!?
As some of you may already know, a lot of LGBT+ content on YouTube is not available in restricted mode (link to short article). “Restricted mode” is different from “age restriction” as far as I’m aware. “Restricted mode” has to be activated in every browser on every device, but the catch is that any YouTube account can activate it and every other account that signs in on that device will have restricted mode and then can’t turn it off! (here’s a video from YouTube on it) Age restriction on the other hand, is based on the age you’ve selected on a gmail account.
What’s absolutely terrifying that so much queer content is unavailable is that the youngest and most vulnerable of our community are not able to explore these identities safely.
Say someone has a very strict and conservative parent, who enables restricted mode and logs off. Their children possibly don’t even know that restricted mode is on! So a lot of valuable information and resources are lost to them.
This terrifies me! And don’t tell me it’s not that bad. I mostly make fanmade videos that are very queer driven. Out of the 36 videos I posted, 21 videos vanished in restricted mode! You know which video can be watched in restricted mode? A period AU about the 1930s with actual Nazi-imagery I did almost two years ago:
There’s even a swastika on the thumbnail for crying out loud! Why is this available in restricted mode?? Meanwhile, a cute little Friends-style opening I did about a queer webseries called Couple-ish where all they did was smile and laugh is removed. You know what was in there? You guessed it. Ladies and non-binary peeps kissing!
But most of all, I’m pissed that my video about 7 misconceptions about asexuality is unavailable. It was educational. It was meant to clear stuff up about asexuality. Talking about topics like consent and sex in a mature and safe environment should not be censored!
Especially since a lot of sex ed especially for queer people is so limited. YouTube has become a great resource where queer people talk about their experiences and is sometimes the only safe environment for a lot of queer viewers.
So yeah. I’m not even pissed I’m outraged by this. This is not okay. If a video with Nazi-imagery (yes I put a warning at the beginning of the video I’m not an insensible fuck) can be in restricted mode, but queer content cannot then that’s definitely a problem.
