7. The cereal aisle at 2am O14
From the ask game here
Thank you to the kind people in the Destiny 2 discord I am part of for helping me come up with Guardian themed cereals. Ya'll are the best.
Osiris shuffled beside Saint staring at the list he had written. His other hand was firmly in his partner's and occasionally Saint would tug a little to help him avoid running face first into a display.
"We got the milk and butter. We got eggs. The Young Wolf said they need cereal too." He said finally looking up at Saint with tired brown eyes. It was really too late, or too early, to be shopping but they had both had nightmares and the little 24 hour market wasn't far from their shared home.
So Saint slipped on the violet bunny slippers that had been a gift from their favorite Guardian and Osiris wrapped up in a red house robe and they dragged themselves out to do the shopping.
Turning down the cereal aisle the pair of them froze, Osiris' eyes widening.
"Have there always been... This many?" He asked and Saint snorted.
"I would not know. I am Exo. I only ever come here to get food for you. Or tea." He pointed out shifting the basket he was holding with the food they already picked out in it further down his arm so he could reach for a box without letting go of Osiris' hand.
"Warlock Wheaties? It says there are marshmallow nova bombs that will turn the milk purple-" Saint started but Osiris cut him off.
"No."
"What do you mean no, I did not even-" he started again but Osiris snatched the box to put it back on the shelf.
"You said it yourself Saint, you don't need to eat. We are not getting these just because they turn the milk purple. I think the Young Wolf wanted the- Is... Is that supposed to be me?" Osiris interrupted himself to grab a different box while Saint started to laugh delightedly.
On the box was a cartoon caricature of a egyptian themed warlock with flaming wings hovering over a bowl of cereal with triangular pieces. The box announced itself as Orbs Of Power: Super Solar and claimed to be a peanut butter protein cereal with little marshmallow ghosts that looked an awful lot like Sagira's shell shape.
"I want to eat the marshmallow Sagiras. I do not need to but when she sasses me it will make me feel powerful," Saint said immediately grabbing a box to add to their basket.
"They have scornflakes, ha! Oh look here is arcberry flavored one with a little Zavala. Do you think they have a little me?" Saint said starting to look through the boxes of normal raisin bran and for more themed boxes.
Unfortunately there were no Saint-14 themed cereals to be found leading to Osiris having to comfort his pouting titan partner as he tried to drag him away toward the checkout.
"I'll talk to Ikora. I'm certain we can do a... A fundraiser or something and make a cereal with a little you on it Saint. The people love you. Call them Titan-O's or something else equally ridiculous." He promised.
It took a lot of work and Osiris threatening many people but months later a new box of cereal was put out with A tiny Saint-14 on the box holding hands with the tiny Osiris in front of a bowl of rainbow fruit cereal for the new Prismatic Power puffs.
nothing better than the wrong capitalization of Sie
"Come to me, come to me. I killed them all."
Phil can be so damn chilling when he gets into intense PVP mode. I love that his teammates have the celebratory shouting covered for him.
(BTW, Phil later said that the reason he was able to two-shot Bad without enchants was because he stepped into Bad's hitbox, past his shield. Phil literally got inside his guard. That's the coolest anime shit; I'm so hoping that makes it into a badass animatic)
(Edit: I ended up doing some art of the aftermath)
New Housefire entry is up. Grab your hanky
the fact that felwinter tried so fucking hard to be a good person only for it to be stripped away from him by basically his father
sometimes I remember Felwinter and his sheer want for something better, for the world, for humanity and for himself too
he fought and he died and he made friends, as hard as it might have been for him, and he tried. so much. to be good, even when he went against his friends and compatriots and the Iron Decree because he believed he was doing something for the correct reasons
he tried to be somebody, and somebody good at that, so hard
and it was all taken away because of childish jealousy, the Iron Lords reduced to near nothing and all their work left behind
I apologize for my horrible sense of humor
There is one other thing to talk about in regards to the dungeon, and that's Osiris, who is on comms for us.
First of all, he was absolutely ready to go there himself. Ikora tells us as much.
She tells us that he's wants to go, but that she's afraid of him hurting himself so that it would be best if we went instead. Because he trusts us. This is enough to make me cry all day, but it's not all.
Once in there, he leads us through. One of his comments in the middle of the dungeon:
This is huge for him. He never does anything for himself. He never says that he needs help for something that sound even remotely selfish or that would be perceived as selfish. But here? He said "I need this." Not "we," not "Ikora," not "Guardians." He. Only he.
He needs to be able to convince others to trust him again. He needs to be able to convince HIMSELF to trust himself again. And the way he says it? He says it almost like he's ashamed of admitting that this is something he needs personally.
And that makes me wail and sob and throw things. Osiris, you are allowed to ask for help and to do things for yourself!!!!
But that's not all! At the end, he makes the following comments:
I will never be a normal person again after this. He and Saint had plans, back in the day, back before the Infinite Forest, that they would go explore the universe together. But not before they made the City safe for everyone else.
They took it upon themselves to do this. To make the City safe, first and foremost, before they can detach and go do things by themselves, for themselves. Securing everyone else took precedence. A job for a thousand years, or more, of making everyone else safe; Osiris and Saint sacrificed everything to make it so.
Only after they finish the most important job, only then are they allowed to leave and do things they want. And nobody would've faulted them if they just left at any point in time. Nobody would've even known. Nobody except them. They couldn't handle thinking selfishly and leaving everyone to struggle while they frollick around the universe.
To them, the first and most important thing is to make sure that everything else is done. Their personal lives and personal wishes and fantasies and dreams come second. That is why they ended up separated. That's why Osiris was exiled, that's why Saint died, that's why Osiris had to move time and space to bring him back, that's why Osiris messed with Hive gods, that's why he became Lightless and kidnapped and in a coma.
Because the most important imperative to them both is to save the world.
And now Osiris is coming to terms with mortality for the first time and he is thinking about what could've been. But even then, he STILL wants to put himself in danger to protect us all.
And I am simply crying super hard on the floor.
Additional cute info to help us from crying, after we returned and Ana wanted to run more missions for extra data, Osiris wanted to himself. AGAIN. She stops him (dungeon helmet lore):
I LOVE the lore about how everyone in the Tower apparently has scheduled watching Colonel time.
"No!" Ana dashes passed Osiris, "It's your night to watch the Colonel. I'll outsource a posse."
