------------------------------------------------------------

Things had been loud lately; the world, Xavier Mansion, your head. All of it was just way too loud. There seemed to be news being made every day, most of it bad. Many students and official X-Men members have been sporting injuries and bandages throughout the school. Professor Xavier, even, was spotted with bandages around his shoulder and neck this morning. If he found himself hurt, then it was bound to happen to you soon.

You were a newer student at Xavier School. You were a late bloomer; your powers only appeared in your early twenties after your ex broke your heart. Sudden change or trauma, Professor Xavier said when he first explained your newfound powers to you, could cause the previously dormant mutant gene in your DNA to make itself known. He then said that, frankly, it was unlikely for the gene to remain dormant for your entire life; trauma and change were, sometimes, unfortunate but quintessential parts of Human existence and therefore couldn’t be avoided.

You still felt so incredibly out of touch with the majority of the people either staying at or attending school at Xavier Mansion, no matter what The Professor had told you. You felt useless. You felt uprooted. You felt out of place. You didn’t feel like you belonged anywhere, not in the non-mutant world or the mutant world.

Professor Xavier constantly argued against your negativity. Somehow, he always seemed to have hope, in both you and the world. He would always encourage your studies and just say that you just needed a bit more training in order to control your powers. Obviously, you understood his perspective, even though you disagreed with it sometimes. But when everything seemed to be falling apart and you couldn’t properly help yourself or the people around you, it was difficult to not be negative and actually see the positive things in life.

You usually listened to music to get your mind off of the pain and guilt you felt. As soon as you left a classroom or training you would pop on your headphones and press play on your Walkman until you returned to your room. As soon as you got there, you would select a record and play it on your record player and just relax until you felt better. The length of time it took for you to fully relax to music had been getting longer with each passing day, though, and you worried that you might be entering into an incredibly dark place.

Today you were lying on the floor of your room, just thinking, while listening to Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd. You had already finished your classes for the day and training had been cancelled due to so many people being injured. Everyone was instructed by The Professor to have a calming couple of days to heal from their less severe injuries and catch up on their studies. You already finished the majority of your mutant homework, as well, so you were just left with your mind to deal with. As not being busy meant that you actually had to focus on the thoughts in your head and the worries you had. You didn’t really know how to relax no matter how much you tried to accomplish that goal with music.

Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd was an album that always resonated with you. Maybe, subconsciously, that’s why you chose it today. To both help you relax but also to help you process some of your emotions.

Unfortunately, this album also reminded you of your parents. You hoped that they were okay. It had been a while since you talked to them. You didn’t know if they were disappointed in you or mad or just uncomfortable, but you missed them and wished that they would either come to see you or respond to any of the messages and letters that you had sent them.

The world wasn’t perfect before you discovered that you were a mutant, you were well aware of that. But you, at least, knew your place in the world. Now you felt burdened by the newfound responsibility these powers gave you and the stigma that was now attached to your name. Right now, you felt like there was nothing you could do to help yourself except to listen to the track currently playing on your chosen record.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

In the middle of the song “Time”, you heard a knock at your door. You sucked in a breath. You didn’t really want to see anyone. You wanted to be alone and just process things. Professor Xavier, though, always encouraged you to try and meet new people at your new home, not just go to him if you needed anything. So, you braced yourself and prepared to interact with someone potentially unknown to you.

“Come in!” You shouted over the music. You heard the door open, allowing the hallway light to stream into your dimly lit room, but you didn’t sit up fully. All of your effort was being put into allowing someone in your space; you didn’t have enough energy to spare in order to sit up to greet the stranger at your door.

You turned your head to the side and saw the person who knocked. Peter Maximoff stood in your doorway, a bit frazzled looking. He had a forced smile on his face and a bandage peeking out from the sleeve of his Rush t-shirt.

Tired of lying in the sunshine

Staying home to watch the rain

And you are young and life is long

And there is time to kill today

And then one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run

You missed the starting gun

“Are you okay?” You asked the speedster who was standing eerily still. You shared a few mutant classes with Peter and trained with him a couple of times. He had to go easy on you every time you were on opposing sides of training activities. Peter was always apologetic to you after the fact, in his own Peter Maximoff way. One time, about two months ago, he kicked your ass into the next week and gifted you a box of Twinkies as an apology.

Other than your interactions in classes and training, Peter was always nice to you, often sparing you from the majority of his pranks. Despite some people living in Xavier Mansion, you never had a reason to dislike the speedster. You would even dare to say that you sought out his company on the rare occasions when you felt comfortable enough to. Even though you did want him to feel similar feelings, you were shocked to see Peter standing in your doorway.

“Oh yeah! Everything’s great … well, not great but fine. I just heard your music in the hall.”

“Oh, sorry! I can turn it down if it’s bothering you.”

“No! I’m cool with it. I’m just wondering if I could listen with you. Hangout, you know, if you are comfortable with that.” Again, you were shocked that Peter wanted to spend time with you, but you allowed him to join you.

“Yeah, Peter, that sounds nice.”

Peter closed your bedroom door and walked into your room. You were surprised that he didn’t use his powers. He usually always used them, often to the annoyance of other mutants.

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun

But it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Peter laid down on your carpet in a similar position to you. Once his body fully relaxed, he let out a big sigh. You looked over at him. In the closeness, you saw some more cuts and bandages littered over his body. You were going to say something about it, but Peter ended up speaking first.

“I love this album. Always have since I first heard it.”

“Me, too, even though it makes me a bit sad.”

“Yeah, I know that there’s a lot of trauma in the album, but it always made me feel seen.” You saw out of the corner of your eye that Peter was talking with his hands, causing a small smile to break out on your face.

“That’s why I chose it today. I just felt small and a bit broken lately. Somehow this album always makes me feel better despite the tragedy within it.” Peter smiled bittersweetly at your comment. He didn’t think that someone would be able to understand him as much as you did, even though The Professor always encouraged Peter to reach out and make a connection with you.

“You have a good taste in music. We should do something like this again. If you want.”

Every year is getting shorter

Never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to nought

Or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone

The song is over

Thought I'd something more to say

You looked over at Peter and he looked over at you. You noticed a couple of scabs on his cheek and chin. You frowned upon seeing them. You wished that the world wasn’t like the way it was. You wished that none of your mutant friends and peers had to hide or fight. You just wished that everything could be normal.

“Hey.” Peter brought you out of your thoughts and intertwined his hand in yours.

“I’m okay, and you’re going to be okay, too.” You smiled bittersweetly, touched by his words and his worry for you. You then curled into Peter’s side and layed your head on his shoulder.

Home, home again

I like to be here when I can

When I come home cold and tired

It's good to warm my bones beside the fire

“We should definitely do this again, Peter.” You heard him chuckle before you felt him tighten his grip around you. The two of you then let the album play on while you both relaxed in silence.

Far away, across the field

The tolling of the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees

To hear the softly spoken magic spells

Anonymous said - “Recently read “Did You Miss Me?” on your old blog, honestly amazing. If you’re open to it, may I request a similar scenario between Dhawan!Master x Reader? Maybe where they reunite for the first time after Missy’s death and admit they both still love each other despite the regeneration?”

I accidentally deleted the original request, so this is my copy.

But I finally got this fic posted in time for this year’s Hunter’s Moon! I was stressing myself over editing this fic again.

I really hope that you enjoy this fic :) I had a lot of fun writing it and I may or may not have cried while writing it. But yeah, i just hope that you like this!

------------------------------------------------------------

You first met Missy on accident when she was working as a shopkeep in your town’s cosy little shopping centre. You, stupidly and distractedly, had left your bag in the restrooms and Missy kindly returned it to you before you left for the day. Though it wasn’t until you returned home that you realised that the kind and beautiful shopkeep who returned your belongings had also left a little note with her name and phone number written on it for you to find.

It was odd, but you took the risk and scheduled a date with Missy the shopkeep. Then that single date turned into two, then three, then four, and then the two of you spiralled into a committed relationship.

But tragically, to you, in the middle of your committed domestic bliss, Missy would disappear at random times. At first, you thought nothing of it, she was probably just incredibly busy, but you eventually become worried that she was up to something. Maybe cheating on you?

You did end up confronting Missy and to your surprise, she told you a story about aliens and planets and shapeshifting time and space machines. You didn’t believe her. That was, until, Missy dragged you to her apartment above the shop where she worked. When you entered the building, before you was no regular apartment, but a gigantic room with a strange, science fiction-like console with many levers and buttons in the middle of the room. Missy explained that everything she told you before was true and that this was her ship. Finally, she told you that she wanted to show you the Universe.

You accepted her offer, no matter how unbelievable it was at first, and the two of you began travelling together. But then Missy disappeared once again. This time Missy wasn’t sneaking off to be a menace around space and time, but The Doctor had abducted her and trapped her with The Vault. He did all of this without notifying you that he stole your partner away from you.

You were worried sick without her, but Missy wasn’t going to let The Doctor keep you and her apart. She would let him play his games for a bit, but she would always keep her eyes on you. Her watchful and protective eye just had to be from a distance momentarily.

Thankfully for you and Missy, The Vault did not entrap telepathic communications between its walls. So, the two of you ended up speaking frequently. Mostly it was just Missy complaining about her old friend and her trying to bribe you into visiting her.

After months of secretly communicating with each other back and forth, Missy did manage to convince you to break into the Vault in order to celebrate your anniversary. The anniversary of when you and Missy began dating.

You were incredibly nervous. You had never met The Doctor and now his oldest friend was convincing you to break into a basement he seemed to own. If he caught you during your attempt, that would be one hell of a way to first meet someone.

You made it into the chaotically filled basement without running into The Doctor, or either of his companions. Then you broke into the Vault. Missy greeted you with a tight hug and a warm kiss, which startled you at first. Missy was definitely affectionate with the right person, but the environment she was in was so strange and off-putting that you were shocked by her open nature. She countered your questions by explaining that The Doctor never watched her while she was in the Vault, he felt like it was too intrusive, and Missy just missed you too much to not attack you with affection upon seeing you again.

Missy ended up pouring some wine for the two of you that you had brought with you to the Vault. You were trying to dish out the food you had also brought but your hands fumbled with nerves. Missy looked at you concerned. She saw no real threat in The Doctor’s actions, other than the fact that he seemed determined to keep her where she was being trapped, but it wasn’t like he would ever hurt her or you.

“Dear, you must calm down. I promise that everything will be alright.” Missy tried to comfort you as the two of you prepared the finishing touches of the little indoor picnic that was being forged.

“How can you be certain about that Missy?”

“I know The Doctor, dearie. He wouldn’t hurt you. The most that would happen would be a strict talk.”

“Even that’s terrifying!” You yelped before taking a rather large sip of your wine.

“Shh, we’re safe here.” Missy manoeuvred herself closer to you; her actions were far too elegant to be referred to as ‘shooting over’. She then gently grabbed you by your shoulders and pulled you into her side before rubbing your back in a reassuring manner.

“But what if The Doctor keeps me away from you?” That question made Missy pause. She never really considered that option; Missy didn’t think that The Doctor had the nerve to do such a thing, but seeing your fear at such an idea made her fear that outcome, too. Even if The Doctor was enough of a fool to try and take you away from your Master, Missy would never allow The Doctor to succeed.

“I will always be here to protect you, Y/n. The Doctor can’t keep me away from my love.” You felt Missy kiss your temple and then press her forehead against yours. You then felt Missy’s presence prod your mind. You let her in and then you instantly felt a wave of calmness and clarity wash over you. Missy had sent a little hypnotic spell through your mind like she had done many times before when you felt overwhelmed. She always managed to help you with your anxiety better than any Human medicine or meditation could.

“Better?” Missy asked hopefully, still massaging your back and shoulders.

“Much better. Thank you, Missy.”

“Good. Now! Let’s toast to our beautiful relationship together and dig into this lovely meal you brought.” Missy kissed your temple one last time before grabbing her wine glass and clinking the glass against yours. Despite the unusual circumstances, nothing could keep Missy from having a great anniversary date with you.

Scheming Timers

Dhawan!Doctor x Reader

image

Summary - The Reader wants to bake after a stressful adventure, but all of the baking timers have seemingly vanished into thin air.

Link to the first part of this trilogy - Baking Hijinks

Warnings - The Doctor lying to The Reader, slightly suggestive

Word Count - 2370

A/n - I hope that you enjoy this!

------------------------------------------------------------

You or The Doctor hadn’t been able to relax for a couple of weeks now. And the two of you definitely weren’t able to keep up with the habit you started of baking together. You and The Doctor had been too busy chasing The Master around the Universe thanks to her latest scheme. Everything erupted on an alien planet The Master was planning to sacrifice hypnotised native peoples of the planet she was on to the unknown partner in her plan. Unfortunately, you and The Doctor were unable to capture The Master or discover her scheme partner, but the pair of you were able to save the planet and its inhabitants. You insisted on making something to celebrate your victory, but The Doctor didn’t seem as keen. He had been keeping a secret from you and he feared that he was going to break at any moment.

After much convincing, The Doctor eventually added a personal kitchen to your room schematic. He was very reluctant in doing this, he quite enjoyed watching you roam around the main kitchen when he was meant to be helping you. No matter what you were making, you would float around the space as if you owned it, dancing from cabinet to cabinet, waving spatulas and wooden spoons like magic wands.

To The Doctor, you looked like an angel when you commanded that space so naturally. He could watch you all day. That is until you yelled at him to help you with whatever you were planning. The Doctor feared that if you had a private kitchen, you would no longer ask him to help you, meaning he would lose getting to see you so carefree and happy. Seeing you like this, calmed him in return.

Thankfully for The Doctor, you did not exclude him in your post-adventure relaxation in your private kitchen, but then he remembered how he acted after your last kitchen excursion and how incredibly forward he was. These memories filled him with the hope that you felt that same way as he did, but The Doctor was also filled with insecurity. What is he made a fool of himself? What if you were, somehow, corrupted by The Master and all of this was a cruel trick? The Doctor didn’t want to be alone anymore. He had wanted to be with you for a long time, but what if he misinterpreted everything and he would make you so uncomfortable that he caused you to leave? That’s the opposite of what The Doctor wanted.

The only thing that The Doctor was really certain of, other than his feelings for you, was that he hated baking timers. The baking timer had interrupted his kiss you, and now they were the bane of his existence. The Doctor was filled with so many insecurities about you, so he made sure to eliminate his fear of being interrupted when confessing his feelings to you by destroying the thing that had the possibility of doing that. Of course, this possessed a difficulty when baking, but The Doctor would always lie and say that he set the timer. He would diligently do tons of maths in his head to keep up with what he was hiding, and, so far, you hadn’t noticed. But he was getting anxious that the thought that you were getting close to discovering what he had done.

“Ugh! Where is that bloody timer? I know that I have one!” You yelled as you rummaged through every cabinet and pantry and shelf in your kitchen.

“Are you sure you have one?” The Doctor glared, looking at the mess you were creating with disdain while leaning up against the wall that connected your kitchen to your bedroom. He hated mess. Which wasn’t great considering that he often had trouble taking care of his own space. The mess was making him more anxious and grumpier than he already was.

“Yes! My aunt, that I don’t particularly like because of her politics, gave it to me! I used to keep it in the main kitchen -” You cut yourself off, quickly jumping up and turning to face The Doctor, making the noise you always made when a lightbulb went off in your head.

“Maybe I left it in there! Be right back!!!” When you ran past The Doctor toward the main kitchen, you poked his side a couple of times, trying to make him, at least, crack a smile. He only folded in on himself, blocking your pokes with crossed arms. You slumped a bit upon seeing The Doctor’s reaction but continued your journey to find the baking timer.

The Doctor had been unusually grumpy for the past couple of weeks, you assumed that it was because of The Master’s antics. However, part of your brain dared to venture into thinking that The Doctor’s upset nature could possibly have to do with the kiss the two of you almost shared, but you elected to ignore that thought. The Doctor hadn't asked you to leave, he hadn't stopped showing you the Universe, and he always baked with you. You thought yourself foolish in thinking that an alien as old as The Doctor could ever care for you. That all of the lingering touches and longing glances were just The Doctor’s misunderstanding of Human customs. He was just being a friend, a very kind and close friend. To you, this conclusion was easier to swallow than the idea of growing old without him. No matter how much you wanted to stay with The Doctor romantically, that, unfortunately, seemed improbable now because of your habit of being too forward with your feelings for The Doctor.

“It’s not in there either!” The Doctor heard you yell from the main kitchen. He couldn’t take this much longer. He hated lying to you, he hated keeping secrets from you. With most people, he was used to it. The Doctor was so old that it was easy to skip over or change a few details and no one could possibly catch him in the act. When he did this to you; however, it broke his hearts. He could picture your hurt and disappointed face when you discovered the truth, so he vowed to tell you the truth whenever possible. Now, knowing that he was breaking his vow, The Doctor’s actions made his skin crawl with disgust over his lie.

You returned to your room, finally drawing The Doctor out of his self-deprecating thoughts. He loved the cute little look you made when you were puzzled by something. You stood with one hip jutted out, both of your hands placed on your lower back and your mouth agape, your tongue resting on the back of your top row of teeth. He stared at you, with glowing eyes and a warm smile you didn’t see, too busy thinking until you jumped up again, a new possibility entering your mind.

“Wait, there was a timer in your private kitchen, right?! We can use that one!”

‘Oh, that thing,’ The Doctor thought while his face darkened when he remembered that day with you, ‘the reason why all of this started. That blasted, scheming timer ruined my chances with you.’

The Doctor dragged his feet begrudgingly as you pulled him by the arm to his private kitchen. The TARDIS purposefully made the trip between the two rooms last longer, giving The Doctor ample time to think about what he had done.

“It’s not here either!” You whined as you ended your search through all of the cabinets and cupboards in the room.

“Y/n, there’s something I need to tell you.” The Doctor's voice was very serious. His tone was laced with sadness and fear. He tapped his foot anxiously, chewing on his thumbnail while trying to avoid your eyes. Seeing him in a state immediately worried you, you ran over to him and began rattling off a series of questions to get to the bottom of why he was so upset.

“What?! What is it? Are you okay? Is it The Master? Are your cuts not healing properly? Are they infected? Are you dying?”

“Woah, woah, woah, it’s nothing like that at all!” The Doctor shifted himself into a more carefree position, placing his hands on your shoulders to ground you. You were relieved that it was nothing too serious, despite The Doctor’s previous attitude. But you questioned him again about what was going on and why he had been acting so strange as of late.

“I know what happened to the timers.” The Doctor’s voice was quiet and filled with guilt. Even though his hands were still placed on your shoulders, he could not maintain eye contact, resolving to stare at your shoes. You weren’t suspecting that to be the subject of his anxiety, but you pressed further, seeing in his guilty mannerisms that he wasn’t finished confessing things that he had been hiding. The Doctor turned away from you and folded into himself again, a hand was placed over his mouth as if he were trying to prevent the words from spilling out.

“I threw them all into a supernova.” The Doctor eventually mumbled into his hand, but you heard what he had said, despite his attempt to hide the information from you.

“You did what?” You marched up to him. You forced your alien host to face you, turning him strongly and abruptly with a strength The Doctor was not suspecting. His eyes were wide in a pleading fashion, and his right hand covered most of his face, in shock that he actually told you what he did.

“But my aunt bought me that timer, Doctor!”

“One,” The Doctor tried to reason his way out of this situation, accompanied with expressive hand movements, even though he could tell by your face that you were not in the mood for whatever explanation he managed to come up with, “you said that you disagree with her politics and two: that’s not the timer that annoyed me. I just threw that one, and every other timer in this ship, into the supernova for precautionary reasons.” The Doctor cringed upon realizing that he revealed too much in an attempt to gain the upper hand in this little tiff, but it seemed like you didn’t notice. Maybe he was in the clear.

“It was still a gift, Doctor! What am I going to do when she asks - ” You halted your yelling once the final part of The Doctor’s sentence registered in your brain.

“What do you mean by the timer that annoyed you? And what precautionary reasons would have to exist for you to throw all of the timers we own into a supernova!” His face lit up slightly when you said “we” when talking about the timers that were formerly housed in The TARDIS. But now was not the time to fantasise about the future the two of you could have together, as The Doctor often did, you were upset and The Doctor would have to fix that.

“Ummm … no reason at all …” Admittedly, once those words slipped out of his mouth, he knew that that would not satisfy his curiosity. So he decided to do what any sane person would do when being glared at by a determined curious person who he couldn’t say no to, The Doctor ran away.

“Doctor!” You yelled at him, rounding the corner in pursuit.

“You tell me what’s going on right now!” The TARDIS decided to aid you in the chase, looping the corridor The Doctor was running down until it crossed your path, causing you to run right into him, toppling him over. The TARDIS let out a series of joyous beeps when you caught The Time Lord.

“Ow! Oi! What are you helping them for?! I’m your pilot!” The Doctor retaliated toward the ceiling of his ship.

“Oh please.” You condescended. The Doctor hadn’t noticed that you moved to straddle his torso, keeping him in place beneath you, until you spoke. He couldn’t help but stare at where your crotch rested on his stomach. He couldn’t believe that you were actually this close to him, and on top of him, no less!

“We all know that the TARDIS does all of the piloting.” His eyes grew wide and a heat began to spread over his cheeks, but The Doctor tried to focus on a response to your accusation instead of his flusteredness. But The Time Lord was unable to form said hypothetical response because the TARDIS beeped again. You couldn’t understand her, but The Doctor heard her snarky comment loud and clear.

“Just like how Y/n has full control over your hearts, Doctor.” The Doctor’s ship snipped at The Doctor telepathically. His flustered nature grew to an embarrassing level; his hands were shaking and beads of sweat began to develop on his forehead. If he wasn’t still trapped beneath you, The Doctor would have attempted to run away again. Eventually, he was able to utter more than just a string of ‘umms’ and gasps of shock, though.

“I don’t see the need for both of you to gang up against me!”

“So the TARDIS is on my side! Good ol’Sexy! I knew she liked me!” The TARDIS let out a reassuring set of beeps even you could understand. She did like you and there was no way The Doctor was getting away from this situation without an explanation. You continued, but this time you directly spoke to The Doctor beneath you.

“So, Time Lord, do you want to tell me why you threw all of the timers into a supernova or am I going to have to force the truth out of you?” While speaking, you leaned over The Doctor, one hand on either side of his face as you stared deeply into his ever-widening eyes. The Doctor visibly gulped before stuttering out a hushed and breathy question.

“How - how are you going to do to force me?” You smirked, leaning down closer to his face until your noses were touching.

“I’m going to leave you alone until you break.” Before The Doctor could protest, you were already off of him and walking down the hall, back to your room.
