Hemingway Editor

Since the beginning, I’ve been using this blog to improve my communication skills. I push myself to write clear and concise posts like I read on Reuters, TwistedSifter, Tiny Cartridge, and Daily Overview. I use Hemingway when it’s time to edit my thoughts down to a single paragraph. Hemingway highlights any parts that are hard to read so I can make sure the finished post still makes sense.

Hooray for self-demonstrating articles! My title text doesn't have the one paragraph limit and I don't normally run it through Hemingway. I tried Hemingway on this title text and it's Grade 6 (Good). It doesn't like adverbs like "normally".

Poleovermania Mario 3 Collections

Super Mario Bros. 3 has been out for 25 years and we still keep finding new ways to break it. Poleovermania puts on a master class in tool-assisted Mario 3 trickery and shows off dozens of the game’s lesser-known bugs. When I play the game, I can only do some of these tricks, usually by accident.

Keiichi Matsuda – Hyper-Reality

Oh no, is this how augmented reality will end up? Graphic designer Keiichi Matsuda imagines Medellin, Colombia with a glitchy layer of graphics, apps, and ads covering it from top to bottom. These things are fine on my phone because they go away when I put my phone away. With augmented reality, there’s no escape.

Cookies N' Creme Oreos

Cookies n' Creme Oreos

Thanks to some creative food scientists, you can now go to Walgreens and buy Oreo ice cream flavored Oreos. Sure enough, they taste like cookies and cream ice cream.

TVTropes calls this Recursive Adaptation. Another one I'd like to track down: the Words with Friends board game.

By the way, this post is a test of writing and publishing a post entirely from my phone. This picture might be huge.

Bill Wurtz – history of the entire world, i guess

Bill Wurtz followed up on his history of japan video with history of the entire world, i guess. It concisely covers the formation of the universe, the beginnings of life on Earth, and all of human civilization in a wonderful 20 minute acid trip.

So, um, I left the title of the video in all lowercase. Should I stop correcting names and titles to standard English capitalization? I might go undo all the capitalization changes I made, like the capital P I was using for “pixiv“. My username used to be a case-insensitive “hitstun”, like the fighting game term, but I tend to use “Hitstun” more now. I’ll do this when I’m not three weeks behind on Feedly I mean feedly.

Botchamania

Pro wrestling is good dumb fun, but it's hard work. It's easy for someone to do a move wrong, receive a move wrong, say something wrong, or have a table fail to cooperate. Those mistakes are called botches, and Botchamania is a highlight reel of botches. It's about the only wrestling I watch anymore.

Botchamania has to bounce around to different hosts due to copyright claims. Maffew's feed is the best way to get new Botchamanias as they're uploaded. If this video breaks, let me know and I'll find it again.

I like to keep this blog work safe, but Botchamania contains some NSFW language.

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 9: Music from a licensed game From Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (Wii, 2010)

This is the theme for Hurricane Polimar’s second stage. I’m not sure if I have the correct composer for this track.

Laibach – Final Countdown

I like these music posts, so here’s another one. Laibach is a Slovenian martial industrial band that has been active since 1980 and are known for their cover songs adapted to their own dark totalitarian style. This one from their NATO album has 1994 Yugoslav war themes and 1994 CG to match.

The 8-Bit Big Band

The 8-Bit Big Band plays memorable video game tunes arranged for their incredible New York orchestra from the Before Times. I’m really vibing to this, so it’s a natural fit for this blog’s music pantheon.

Canvas For Pebble
Canvas For Pebble

Canvas for Pebble

UPDATE: I made another Canvas screen called Wallpaper Watchface. Go get that one instead. It’s better.

Wearable devices are the next big thing in tech. I’ve jumped on the bandwagon with a Pebble, and I want to develop for it. On Android, Canvas for Pebble lets you quickly make watchfaces that nicely display the time, date, weather, and your phone’s unread message and missed call counts. I took a few hours and made a watchface I like that displays seconds, and you can have it too.

If you want to try on the Dr. Mo Day 1 watchface, you’ll need a Pebble running  firmware 2.0 beta and Canvas for Pebble 2.0 beta. These should still work when Pebble 2.0 and Canvas for Pebble 2.0 are released. Once that’s installed, visit this post on your phone and click the version you want below.

Dr. Mo Day 1 Imperial Dr. Mo Day 1 Metric

Ever notice how almost every watch ad has the time set to 10:10? Analog watches look better that way, but I'm not so sure about digital watches. It's a lot harder to fake the time on a cell phone.
