I have to draw a lot of gold and metal for my work, but wasn't happy with any of the metal tutorials i could find around. I prefer really specific instruction, so after some research i put together what i think works as a generalist's guide/tutorial. Not perfectly accurate, but i hope it's helpful!

Having troubles with facial angles in your drawing style?
Try a 3D sculpture of your art in your own style in a free program that is simple and very easy to use.
The program is called Sculptris and is a free off-shoot program from Zbrush, that program that you keep hearing about but either takes selling your kidneys or piracy to actually use.
If you download it and sculpt out a facial model, you can have references for your own work for all of time. No more endlessly searching Google for reference materials or twisting/rotating/flipping a drawing to see if there are flaws. And you can easily edit it to create more facial types. This way, you can make character references for any and every face and facial angle that you can think of.
The program offers mirroring right from the start, so your faces will be perfectly symmetrical. You can turn off the symmetry for things like scars or otherwise.
It takes a little time. For instance, I downloaded the program on Christmas and, in my spare time, this took a few days of getting familiar with the program (first day) and then sculpting for a few minutes each day, mostly due to my perfectionist nature. And this one isn’t even done. I still have to mold the mouth, ears, and other smaller aspects before I consider it done. However, I was so giddy over the possibilities that I wanted to share this with my fellow artists.
From now on, I have reference for a face in my own style and will be able to create things so much easier in the future. I hope that this helps you guys and that you have fun with it.

Tsuda Kenjirou) Note ;; the translations are rough because my Japanese is not quite up to standard.. Feel free to correct me if I get anything wrong! The bracket-ed parts are parts I’m not entirely sure of, or sound effects or more notes that I felt was needed to be inserted- feel free to ignore them! Don’t treat this as a 100% translation please, though I’ve tried my best XD Some parts are spoken very quickly, especially when Kamamoto & Kusanagi started throwing out all the dishes’ or items’ names.. K SIDE: RED translation, Prologue & Ch.1A
So, in an attempt to connect with the work Tumblr user trashbunny is doing, I started from the beginning to backtrack what’s missing from before the parts she they (derp rina) translated. Probably with 99% fewer errors than when I was skimming, but I can’t promise.
This doesn’t connect yet, it will connect when the full first chapter is done. This is like the first 20 pages or so of the novel, pretty much all the exposition parts. More coming some time, idk, I’m slow. Have fun!

Oh no it’s a COLOURING WALKTHROUGH
The last time I did one of these I felt it was inadequate because all I did was flip through the layers of a completed piece. So this time I took screenshots as I drew!
Other notes:
This is only my method for fast colouring; if I had, say, metallic objects, or fur to colour I would likely paint it with none of the shadows layer masking business, which seems to work best on objects that aren’t particularly shiny.
If you look at the timestamps, apparently I took about an hour an a half to colour this.
Smoothing out the shadows was done with a hard round brush with flow and opacity controls turned on. (it’s a default brush.)
Your flat colours are the most important part of this process - the layer adjustments trick will save you from having to pick a second round of colours for shadows manually, but if your flats aren’t up to scratch the whole piece will suffer. Make sure your colour scheme works here before moving to shading.

A lovely Japanese friend of mine recently showed me the K glossary that came along with the blu-ray/DVDs, which actually features quite a few extra words than what’s posted on the official site, along with, well, going beyond the 8th episode. These are the keywords that relate to episode 8 and 9. After receiving my copy of vol. 6 and vol.7 of the blu-ray, I hope to eventually compile all the glossary terms into one big masterpost, but here are terms from episode 8 and 9 for now.
Blues What outsiders call SCEPTER4 members. It’s a term mostly used behind their backs, and one that reflects a sort of jealousy common people feel towards what they consider to be a group of authoritarian and high-pressured capital policemen, made up of supernaturally empowered individuals.
Claudia Weismann The older sister of Adolf K. Weismann. Like her younger brother, she belonged to a state-operated research facility in Dresden, and partook in the research concerning the “Slate”. However, she died during the indiscriminate bombings in 1945. Her death would greatly impact the actions of her younger brother Adolf and the Japanese lieutenant Kokujouji; in other words, individuals who would later become the First and Second Kings.
Boss glasses and mean glasses According to her impressions of them, Neko nicknamed Munakata Reisi as ‘boss glasses’ and Fushimi Saruhiko as ‘mean glasses’.
Ex-A/Extra-Alpha The academic term for a supernatural “King” used in the show. Organisms who exhibit characteristics of the Extra-Alpha group are able to display overwhelming capabilities and charisma, and will create a sturdy organization(clan) centered around themselves when thrown into a crowd of similar organisms.

I just downloaded SketchBook Copic Edition. AND IT’S REALLY GREAT! The interface it’s like the other SketchBook programs but I love how the colors can be blended and treated almost like real Copic markers!, I’m exited.
I’m sharing my first drawing here so it’s not so cool…but I’ll be practicing a lot with this thing. The download it’s easy and you can find the program for free in the AppStore, here: DOWNLOAD
