My back and forth writings with @dullgecko have only confirmed what I knew in my heart and that is that Fabian Aramais Seacaster was destined to be YA paranormal romance heroine. He wasn't meant to be in these streets getting tormented by Chungledown Bim and Sexy Rats.
He was meant to be fought over by werewolves and vampires after finding out that his absent mother was an Elf and he has an ancient magic. He was meant to be whisked away by a Fey Prince and be held in his enchanted castle. He was meant to attend a remote boarding school that has a secret population of students that are fallen angels.
He has white hair, silver eyes, depression, and pronouns COME ON!
When around other people Riz and his mom force themselves to walk fully upright with a more humanoid posture. In their own home though (or in Riz's office when he's alone) they tend to hunch and crouch slightly because it's just a more comfortable posture for goblins, even popping up onto the balls of their feet.
Riz freaked out his party at LEAST once on the Night Yorb quest when he got up in the middle of the night for some water and his siloette didnt match what he usually had in the dark.
asking about the plot. asking about the plot. asking about the plot.
(In reference to this ask)
This is the part where I would drop a snippet. If i had one. But since I don't, you just get my snarky explanation.
So. The geopolitical situation:
Yes we have to start with the geopolitical situation. That's how you know this AU is fun.
It's not too different from PoMo (can you tell I put all my Sylvaire Kingdom thoughts in that story because I haven't written this one yet?) Fallinel and Sylvaire have tense relations, but hey, there's a permanent diplomatic mission there, and the Abernant girls get along with the heir well enough that some people think Riz is going to marry one of them. Relations with Highcourt aren't amazing either because Pok & Sklonda (and Sylvaire) as a whole are 'godless,' but there are a lot of Helioic missionaries, which goes a way to maintain those relationships. And they have a very close relationship with Solace. Similar values, and Sylvaire works hard to become a Technological Power, which means they can actually trade high-tech goods with Solace. And Sylvaire has a lot of natural resources, which also make them good to have a good relationship with.
All this to say, for a young nation (the bulk of this story takes place when the Bad Kids are, like, 19/20. A little older and more mature but still Young, so Sylvaire is, like, 16/17 years old) Sylvaire is doing very, very well. Better than anyone anticipates.
Until Pok is assassinated by Fallinel, that is.
Cue the declarations of war, from Sylvaire and Solace both. The Abernants get the hell out of dodge but abandon their daughters to do so. Luckily, Sklonda's reasonable, they can stay free so long as they use their considerable magical talent for the war effort. Fig enlists against her mom's wishes, Gorgug does too but shifts to the engineering corps when an injury puts him out of commission. Fabian's captaining a naval ship, Kristen's working as a field healer, and Riz...
Riz is grieving and angry and he hates Fallinel. But. There's something more going on here, he knows it.
He just needs to figure out what it is.
Head canon: Riz and Sklonda are tall for goblins
since Sklonda's only other goblin in Elmsvile the Riz and the rest of the BKs assume he's average height, until Riz meets Pok and realises he's taller than his dad, who's actually average height for a goblin
name one native american intellectual off the top of your head, name one native american actor or actress off the top of your head, name one native american senator, one native american news anchor, or an author or a tv personality or a singer or a poet or a comedian, name a single native american teacher you’ve had, can you? probably not
ok so now think of one native american cartoon character you know of or a sports team relating to native americans whether it’s their actual name or their team logo, or a town you live in or near with a “native” name bet a lot of these things came to you right away i bet you didn’t even have to think
needing native representation in media, education and government are not decoy issues, the commercialization and appropriation of native cultures are not decoy issues, the lack of native representation is institutional oppression at work
let’s see how many transphobics we can weed out
