New Arizona law makes it illegal to record police within 8 feet of an arrest

The bill was drafted after Tuscon officers complained that bystanders were recording them too close. Critics say it violates the First Amend

I think a lot of people understand why this is bad, but in case some don't let me explain.

The nation was horrified by the recording of George Floyd being murdered. But what if it had never been recorded? Would Derek Chauvin still be out? Would they have tossed the case due to insufficient evidence?

Look, the 2020 protests resulted in laws being passed to hold police accountable. Were they fully successful? No. Does more need to be done? Yes. But there was more being done than I've ever seen.

Now, in the space of a few months we have

The SCOTUS ruling prisoners don't have the right to an appeal.

The SCOTUS ruling that cops can't be sued for failing to Mirandize people.

The SCOTUS rule the government can charge nonIndigenous people for commiting crimes on tribal land, stripping Native Americans of tribal sovereignty.

And in Arizona, people can't record cops within 8 feet of an arrest.

This is not an accident or a coincidence. Conservatives are sending a message that no matter what cops do, they will back cops up. They are saying that they don't like cops being held accountable. These rulings should be taken as retaliation for any policy passed that protects BIPOC and hold police accountable.

Honestly, I don't care who they cast as Percy Jackson in the new tv show, I just want it to be Percy.

Did I have a preconceived notion of what person looked like growing up. Yes. Do I have a couple specific ideas of how I want Percy to look in the show to better represent me and also other people. Yes. But for me, it doesn't matter the face, or the hair, or any of that, as long as it's Percy.

The Percy who taught me that just because I'm different doesn't mean I'm broken, and doesn't mean that I can't accomplish things. The Percy that learns to be proud of who he is, and taught me to be proud of who I am. Heck, Percy Jackson was one of the first characters in Media, one of the first people ever that truly had me questioning my gender, what gender means to me, and who I was, in order to help find my identity. I wanted to be him. Now, he has helped me want to be me.

So come on Disney, do it. Cast an Actor of color, a trans kid, a genderqueer kid, a kid who really is neurodivergent. Or has freckles or acne. Or isn't the "conventional" muscular body type. Don't worry, go ham. Because Percy is Percy, no matter what he looks like. Because it doesn't matter what somebody looks like, it matters who they are.

Because Percy is and always was a good kid. And as long as you have that, you have Percy.

Hello besties. Since Ramadan is starting I’d just like to point out something about the “nsfr” tags. (It would be cool if y’all reblogged)

I’m not sure why those even started but they really go against the purpose of fasting itself. One of the very important aspects of fasting is self control and patience, muslims are supposed to live their regular lives while fasting and practice control over hunger or anger etc.

Thus, tagging food or drinks or maybe even nsfw content as “nsfr” doesn’t make sense, regardless of how cute it is to see non-muslims try their best to be super inclusive and make spaces more friendly. But just a psa for this year: it’s okay to post the same way as you do all year, this month is just our time to exercise patience:) !!

And if certain Muslims feel the need to really block certain posts for the day, they always have the option to block tags like “food” or “nsfw”.

AND a race one since the most affected regions will be Africa, Asia and Oceania
