Personally I don’t get anything from the part people are upset over but ‘England is tsundere for America’. I do greatly appreciate the confirmation of that and OF COURSE the statement about how important America is to him is so lovely. And he ‘can’t quite say his true feelings?’ Bless you, England. He acts like an adult on the surface, but only to America. Underneath, he’s very different- it’s as if he feels he has to deal with him like a grownup who suppresses his heart. - is pretty much a word for word description of what a tsundere is. So basically England is tsundere but only for America is what I’ve got. And Hima even says ‘he’s a tsundere’ at the end of the blurb. Most of the time in anime/manga when there’s a couple the creator is always more open about one side’s feelings than the other’s, and APH is no exception (AusHun, Chibitalia/HRE, etc.). And this is just so normal that I don’t quite understand why some people are upset over the fact that Hima isn’t as overt when discussing America’s feelings. America’s concern and the way that England impacts him is made clear in the strips itself, and almost every scene in which we see America being very serious or touched involves England. US and UK are a lot like a Takahashi couple. America isn’t a perfect fit for jerk with a heart of gold, but he fits in ways that matters (he’s also a bit of a tsundere himself). England is of course, a tsundere. Because of that England’s feelings are ALWAYS going to be more evident because that’s just the way the trope works and the way the character types work. The tsundere will generally realize their feelings long before the other, and this will be made apparent.
America’s canon obliviousness really plays into this as it’s very commonly found in relationships like this. It’s one of the things that generally sets a 'tsundere’ character off. The tsundere works up the courage to show their feelings in some way, but the other character doesn’t get what they’re going for. Happens all the time, and it happens with these two.
One difference between them and the typical couple in that trope is that they’re really both equally at fault for the fail. Sometimes the tsundere is less at fault in couples, but there are just as many moments where America is trying with England and doesn’t get the desired response as there is with England trying toward America (which is why I can’t stand the poor England, America is so mean mindset some of fandom has. They’re BOTH like that). The boys suck at communicating, which is also really common in the trope (and often if the characters just sat down and talked for a bit, all would be solved). I do believe that USxUK is set up like a couple. Hetalia has always been a series that plays with tropes a lot (part of its parody aspect), and they are no exception. I think that this new info is great, and I don’t personally agree with the idea that it’s indicative of unrequited love or whatnot. To me it’s almost the opposite. It’s the same kind of statements you see about couples like this all the time. And that actually really makes me happy.
And for that reason, England and Scotland prOBABLY have competitions every Christmas of who gets the prettiest trees.
Sometime ago I was wondering "Which other relationships do North have apart from his brothers?", the answer didn't come really easy, but my brain won't stop until find some countries (in hetalia more than real world) whom I can fit him in.
Belarus: once I read someone talking about the relatioship thos could have in order to food? And I like that idea, I would also like to add some relationship as a couple, but this relationship ended with both of them being really close friends. (Both fire the chaoticness to the other).
S. Korea: both likes fashion and are into textile industry, S. Korea usually share his taste in music with North (and Belarus) and sometimes dance together. They both share this feeling towards the twin brother and the difficult explanations behind.
Liechtenstein: they see each other in every meeting the Uk has with Switzerland, developing a friendly relationship since both didn't pay attention to the meetiings at all, so North was the one who introduces Lily to Belarus and S. Korea.
Arthur is prettier, wales look like smaller faced him, Ni looks like America and Scotland like Rome.
This is a scrapped comic I thought to post here, since I'll never finish it. It slowly dawned on me that Scotland and his brothers possibly live in a shared house, so parts of the plot didn't work, and I got too busy to rework the setting, blah blah blah. Enjoy a small exchange with Scotland and his unicorn friend.
They're protesting Monty Python's Life of Brian.
Heroes get vaccinated!! A little doodle as a congrats to myself for getting my vaccine :3
Bonus aftermath:
I might have to take a little rest break because I had a bad reaction to the vaccine and it’s my birthday tomorrow lmao!! Busy time for Asha ❤️❤️
Scotland: why do you call December "the Christmas month"?
Ireland: because IT IS. The most important time of the year. What else would you call it?
Scotland: An Dùbhlachd. (Scottish Gaelic for the Darkness)
Ireland: THE BLACK DUCK???
