If you’re going to turn Game of Thrones into a shipping war and compare complex fictional characters with real life monsters like Hitler, and curse out anyone that doesn’t share your same opinion, then you are not mature enough to watch this show. Come back and rewatch it in a couple years when you’ve gotten some more life experience and maturity.
“Ask not for whom the bell tolls,” goes the famous paraphrasing of John Donne’s sermon. “It tolls for thee.” The bitter truth of this aphorism—that the loss of any life is a loss for all—gets a brutal workout in the aptly named “The Bells,” arguably the best representation of George R.R. Martin’s deconstruction of fantasy tropes we’ve seen in several seasons. The bells of King’s Landing, it turns out, don’t toll for the loss of Cersei’s authority. They toll for the loss of everyone in the city, quite literally. This story began as a way to invert the cliched stereotypes of the hero’s journey, to twist the traditional narrative of swords and sorcery in a radical way and rethink how such epics are delivered. This episode brings that philosophy home. There are no good wars; any battle that begins with hearty cheering should end with somber melancholy; it doesn’t matter who the good guys and bad guys are in the face of death; nobody wants to die; the chaos of war makes villains and victims of us all.“
Alex McLevy, AV Club TV Critic’s Review of “The Bells”
“Game of thrones tells its audience that women with broken pasts can only turn mad”
Okay but we have Sansa who lost her family, was held as a prisoner, was raped by a man she didn’t want to marry, used as a ploy by so many characters for her name. And now look at her, she works with her people, she never asked for anyone to hail her queen, she doesn’t take what isn’t hers, she doesn’t demand loyalty. She earns it. She is strong and is fierce and has become a leader. Without hurting others in the process.
We have Arya, who lost her loved ones, was on the run for years, had no one to come home to, had to learn to adapt and survive. She was broken by her training, left alone, abandoned, scarred. She was a lone wolf In a strange region. And now look at her, she doesn’t want revenge on a people that applauded and mocked her father’s beheading, she tried to help them. despite the events of her childhood She grew up a fighter, a protector, a savior.
We have Yara. Yara who was always subjugated and deemed inferior simply for being a woman. Yara who was repreatedly wronged by a system that oppressed women. She was always meant to be a ruler, to save her people. And that’s what Yara has done. Despite the constant sexism and belittlement Yara fought hard for her place and has shown all those who questioned her authority what it means to be a leader.
We have Brienne of Tarth, a knight, a honorary woman. She has always done the right thing. She was mocked by men and women alike for her choice to serve as a knight. She defied gender norms and stood her ground. Despite the sexism, despite the mocking Brienne proved a much better knight, a more honest human than any of the knights in all of the seven kingdoms. She didn’t use her abilities as a fighter to abuse rather she used her strength to provide safety.
Lyanna Mormont who was given so much responsibility at such a young age. Whose parents died, whose men have lied and tried to take her claim. but Lyanna never let that turn her mad. She never let her circumstances turn her into a harsh and unjust ruler. She ruled house bear with pride and integrity. The horrible events of her childhood didn’t turn her into a imperialist. Lyanna Mormont died a hero.
And there is also Gilly. A wildling who faced prejudice from the people of Westeros. Who was robbed of her virginity by the man that was supposed to protect her. She was abused verbally as well as physically. But she didn’t let that rage consume her or that prejudice. She didn’t let that lack of love from westeros fill her with anger. Rather she remained as brave and as resilient as ever.
So no, game of thrones isn’t sexist or anti feminist because daenarys Stormborn allowed a fire to consume her and used fire+blood to take back what was never hers.
For all that tumblr complains about the writing for female characters on this show, at least these female characters actively do something and D&D write for them
Jon Snow: His entire arc was invalidated in one episode, his parentage was there for the sole purpose of turning Dany paranoid considering Jon himself was not allowed to deal with the ramifications of it. Jon himself has no reactions to things happening around him and makes idiotic decisions to drive the plot. His entire season 1-7 arc invalidated.
Bran: Has done nothing of consequence and there was no point in watching his early season journey and him becoming the 3ER. Utterly useless character on the show.
Jaime: No redemption arc, nothing. He died as Cersei’s lackey. No meaning to his arc with Brienne
Tyrion: If he had fallen off the boat and drowned in season 5, it would have been the best thing to happen to Dany considering what a moron the show has turned him into. All he does is stand there and look sad about Dany.
Folks complaining about the female characters. At least the female characters have agency and actively drive the plot.
Dany decides this is it and takes KL with fire and blood.
Sansa actively schemes against Dany and sets this plot in motion with Varys.
Arya kills the NK and and is the hero of the long night.
Cersei holds her ground and KL till the very end.
The men on the other hand are useless lackeys. There is no development there, they actively regressed and became more dumb to prop up the female characters, they had no story other than to serve as plot devices. So if you are complaining about bad writing, at the least acknowledge that the bad writing affected all characters, not selectively one gender.

On a scale of one to Jon Snow, how badly do you regret your recent life choices?
I’m so proud of everyone involved in this show for having the guts to do EVERYTHING we just saw. Most other shows wouldn’t dare.
Give everyone all the Emmys! Especially Maisie, Emilia, and Lena!
I continue to love this season. I continue to believe that everything has been beautifully, wonderfully in character. No we may not like some of the things that are happening, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in character.
In this episode:
Jaime – I always expected it to end here because honestly, from a narrative point of view, it’s the only thing that would have made sense. Jaime has been helplessly, hopelessly, insanely, madly, senselessly in love with Cersei his literal entire life. Literally. He only turned his back on her (in show time) a week, maybe two past. And that was only because by turning on her word, she was putting their unborn child at risk.
Yes, he loved Brienne, but that love couldn’t compare to what he felt for Cersei and when he found out that her life was in danger, of course, he had to go back to her. It was narratively, and in character, the only thing that made sense. To do otherwise, would have been out of character. Jaime said it himself to Brienne, he has done terrible, hateful awful things. He doesn’t really deserve a happy ending. It’s because of Brienne that he found any honor at all. So good on her.
Daenerys – I love Dany, and I think that everything that happened in this episode, again, narratively made perfect sense.
Everything made sense. I was so happy when those bells rang, and I do think that Dany tried to do the right thing, I believe that she really, really tried, but she was so fucking enraged and, more than that, hurt.
She lost Viserion, twice over.
Then she found out that Jon was her nephew (OK, admittedly not that big a deal to her), but she also found out that she wasn’t first in line to the throne.
Then she realized that no one loved her here like they did across the Narrow Sea even after her help was a huge reason they beat the Undead, Sansa was a still not very nice to her.
Then Jon refused to NOT tell his sisters, thus proving that he didn’t put HER needs, HER desires, HER first.
Then she lost Rhaegal.
Then she lost Missandei
Then she found out that Varys was plotting against her.
Then sometime in the midst of that she found out that Tyrion fucked up again TWICE. He trusted Sansa, who used his trust of her to turn her people against her. He also was wrong about trusting his brother.
And THEN Jon made it clear he loves her as his queen but just is not down to fuck his aunt so basically she lost Jon as her love too.
And this basically ALL happened in like less than a week.
Oh yeah, and Missandei, her best friend, her last words before she was decapitated before her eyes were: BURN THIS MOTHERFUCKING PLACE TO THE GROUND!
So that’s what Dany wanted to do. That’s what everything in her SCREAMED TO DO. When she told Tyrion that she wouldn’t Dracarys the hell out of King’s Landing, she did not believe for one second that the bells would ring. But then the soldiers surrendered… and the bells rang. And, well, see all those “Then…” above,“ and Dany was like, "Nope, I need my motherfucking revenge.”
It all made perfect sense. It wasn’t character assassination. It was character narrative that had been lain all along. These relationship built so that when they were taking from her, she was devastated and would react as such. Character beats that had been established throughout the seasons. This had all been lain throughout the series’ run.
Arya Stark – Every moment with Arya was just awesome. From her “I’m Arya Stark. I’m going to kill Queen Cersei.” And the guard just kinda paused and was like, uhm, yeah, I’m gonna go check with my superior but basically let you through cuz yeah, you’re you. To the scene with the Hound where he told her LIVE YOUR YOUR LIFE FOR LIVING! DON’T BE LIKE ME! And she called him “Sandor,” and she thanked him! Aaaah! And she was all caught up in the horror, and trying to help people and she kept escaping death so closely as if the God of Death himself were telling her: Live, girl, damnit, LIVE!
Oh, and that final scene was so beautiful. It was not only my favorite scene of the episode, but one of my favorites of the series. No dialogue, just Maisie Williams’ brilliant acting. It was beautifully shot and directed, but damn, her expressiveness slayed me dead. I thought it was exquisite.
You could read EVERYTHING that she was feeling, everything that was going through her mind. Taking in all of the horror, all of the death, realizing that THIS has been her life for so long and then seeing the white horse (coincidentally, Gendry rode in on a white horse, I’m just saying) and the sun shining on it and them like a ray of light amidst that horror. She saw it, and it was like a way out of that death and despair. And she was gentle and she took her time, and the horse, the light accepted her. And off into the sun they rode together. While the music played softly and you could hear the strains of the Game of Thrones theme in their.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.
This is insane!? I cant believe how many people are going up in arms about the portrayl of some of these charecters in the latest episode. This was outstanding and a great culmination and rep of a lot of these charecters story lines. Danerys has been slowly slipping into the deep end for a long while and the unsullied are trained to follow their specified leader (which is stregnthend by the fact they chose her). Tyrion (while clever and smart) is a man who is heavily influenced by his moral compass and emotions, as well as his own sense of honor. Of course hes going to try to save everyone he can in a way that dosent involve him betraying danerys, thats what hes been doing for the longest time. Johns not a man whos being represented as a hero right now, hes a man who fucked up BIG TIME and is only now seeing past the tosy eyes lenses of love. Im truly sorry to all the people who feel as if they have been wronged by writers. Its hard seeing a charecter(s) who you have loved for years, identified with, and gave you hope die or turn against the very ideals and characteristics that made you love them, but please dont blame these feelings on the writers and start shouting blasphemy. This was the natural culmination and it was great. Have a nice day, and i wish you luck for next sunday.
This is a great essay! I love this show because it allows Daenerys to be a fully formed and complex character, the likes of which most female characters in fantasy and even on television almost NEVER get to be. She feels like a real person because, like a real person, she isn’t all good or all bad.
Emilia Clarke has really hit it out of the park with her performance, getting us to love Dany and then fear her.
This is a great character--one of the best female characters I’ve ever seen on television and I’m so glad the show had the guts to let Dany break bad, as she was always destined to do.
sooo how do you feel about the whole mad queen thing?
Well, like much in the last half of this series, the set up has been rushed and clumsy and occasionally ridiculous.
But given all the crap they have to deal with— time constraints plus two dozen other characters; quickly trying to connect dots that GRRM has been struggling to join for the better part of two decades; the fact that we live in an age where a staggering percentage of people have developed the inability to watch 30+ minutes of television without looking at their stupid phones and can barely follow the plot of of your average sitcom— I pity those poor bastards enough to cut them some slack on that front.
That aside, I’m happier with it than I thought I’d be. Because I don’t think she’s mad at all, at least not yet. She’s just broken and finally fed up with trying to control her ruthless side.
For a long time, I figured the show was going to wimp out and go about “dark D-ny” in the “safest” way possible: she’d spin out of control for an episode and a half at most then snap out of it in time to heroically sacrifice herself.

I can’t wait for the final books to come out and everyone will realize this was George R.R. Martin’s plan the entire time.
Hey I’m as mad as anyone about Dany going crazy… but if you read the books and watch the show you can see this is NOT something completely out of left field for her. She sees herself going mad. She asks the people she trusts to watch her. She tells herself she’s not her father or brother. Now take her baseline and add 2 dead kids and a dead best friend. This is what Dany was going to become.
Vindication
How can you guys defend Dany?
“Lazy writing, Dany was never like this”
“Dany wants peace, she is soo innocent”
Dany has been like this for the longest time. Reveling in her brother having gold poured over his head, smiling at the Dothraki leaders burning, always wanting to burn cities over politics. She literally tries to avoid politics all the time to push her agenda. From beyond the seas to quarth, mereen and now here.
Dany has always been dark and she always will be dark. She was built towards this-words and actions are very different. She can say she wants to break the wheel as much as she wants but she always went against it.
Do you know who we should be praising?
Arya Stark-> Overcame her struggles and still did what was right for her family and others
Sansa Stark-> actually a smart bitch
Missandei-> standing by, always consoling in her queen and finding love in the hardest places
Dany isn’t a god. Stop crying over “omg my love and emotions, she gave me strength this is sexist”
No fuck You to think it’s sexist for a female to be a villian. That’s the tea for today.
Even though we didn’t get to see Sansa and Arya’s reactions to Jon’s parentage reveal, their next scenes subtly show how they process this information.
Arya, who previously worked so hard to return to her family and went out of her way to call Jon her brother (not her half-brother), now wants to go to Kings Landing to finish her hit list.
Inconsistent character development? You might say that, but I have another theory. Arya only came home because she heard Jon had helped retake Winterfell, but when she arrives home he’s not there, Sansa and Bran are two very different people, and the loving family reunion she expected from Jon is ruined by the arrival of his new girlfriend and the impending war against the Night King.
When we first see Arya this season she is standing with the commoners outside Winterfell watching Jon and Daenerys arrive. She smiles when she sees Jon, only to be disappointed when he rides right by her without recognizing her. This could be why she isn’t there when Jon walks into Winterfell--she’s sulking. Her reunion with Jon doesn’t go as planned because she has to defend Sansa and remind him that he needs to keep his family’s interests in mind.
She reawakens her humanity (and dormant sexuality) with Gendry. After sleeping with him she looks...calm, disappointed? Maybe the experience wasn’t what she expected. Maybe she expected having sex would make her feel powerful and whole, maybe she thought it’d make her feel fully connected with someone for the first time in many years. Instead she stares off into space, probably thinking of the upcoming battle.
Then in 8x03 she saves the day by killing the Night King...only to not show up at the feast a few days later, where she SHOULD be the guest of honor, but is instead only thanked by Daenerys once in a toast which she doesn’t even see. Instead of joining her family and the other survivors, she training by herself all alone in the dark until Gendry arrives.
Gendry proposes, but she declines because “that’s not me.” She doesn’t know how to do anything but fight. Revenge and hate have become a part of her, more than anyone else in her family, even Sansa. She doesn’t know the first thing about being a “lady” or a wife or anything but a nameless, faceless girl that used to be Arya Stark.
She finally learns about Jon’s true parents off screen after calling Daenerys out and reminding Jon about the importance of family and protecting his own. The next time we see her she’s on her way to King’s Landing, back on the path to revenge. Why not stay home and let the others take care of Cersei? She previously said that she doesn’t trust Daenerys and now that she knows Jon isn’t completely a Stark, maybe she feels she can’t fully trust Jon either? Sure he’s still the man she grew up with and called brother, but Jon isn’t Jon anymore in the larger scheme of things. Arya might even think Jon going south and siding with a Targaryen (and maybe one day accepting that he is one too) is a betrayal of his Stark heritage and his Stark family.
Arya doesn’t expect to come back from her final mission. She doesn’t know how to live in her old home anymore. She doesn’t know how to be the Arya Stark she used to be and the Arya Stark everyone else wants her to be. She thinks she has no place in Westeros after Cersei’s death. But I hope the next two episodes prove her wrong.
We are approaching the end of Game of Thrones, so at this point in any good story all of the major characters must feel a sense of hopelessness and darkness before the light at the end of the tunnel. Daenerys is loosing all of her allies, Jon suddenly realizes he’s not who he thought he was, and, likewise, Arya is questioning her identity and her own place in the world.
I think she’ll find it, one way or another, by the time the show ends.
Daenerys is one of the best and most complex female characters in recent literature and television history. If she does turn out to be the secret antagonist of this series (depending on whose point of view you take), I will respect the series even more for taking this huge risk you typically don’t see when it comes to female characters, especially female characters in fantasy who are usually either all good or all bad.
A really really good meta about Daenerys I found on twitter.
This is why I think Dany has always been one of my favourite characters, but I was never really sold on her actually getting the Throne once she got to Westeros, because it really revealed so much more about her motives that her storyline in Meeren sort of hid from me.
Finally, someone else admitted to liking this episode!
Although I’m quite frustrated that D&D still deprive us of Starks’ moments and the pack vibes, in general, 8x04 is quite a good episode in my opinion. Here I’d like to share with you my thoughts on some of the key moments in the episode. I will mainly focus on the state of warfare, my interpretation of the main players’ motivations and concerns, and my view on whether their decisions (based on the set of information each one has in hand) are good for the realm. Always keep in mind that beside Family-Duty-Honour, the running theme since the beginning of the series has always been anti-war.
The episode starts with the aftermath of the Long Night. Tens of thousand died. The survivors are all wounded, drained out and devastated. Let’s do some maths to compare the Stark-Dany’s force to that of Cersei-Euron’s at the moment.
Stark-Dany: Before the battle against the Dead, the North and Vale had 20.000 soldiers. Dany had 40.000 Dothrak, 8.000 Unsullied, the remaining of Yara’s force and 2 dragons. In total, they had around 70.000 soldiers and 2 dragons. After the battle, the size of the alliance shrinks massively. Half of the Unsullied are gone and so are the Northmen, so I assume the same survival ratio applies to the Vale and Dothraki. Thus, altogether they have around 30.000 soldiers left and 2 dragons, however all in bad shape.
Cersei-Euron: the remaining of the Lannister army, the Iron Fleet (full strength), 20.000 sellswords from the Golden Company. So I assume they have more or less the same number of soldiers as Stark-Dany alliance. Well-rested, well-armed, well-positioned for defense behind the high walls of KL, and fully-equipped with balistas to counter the dragons.
I will discuss the rational strategy for each side in later part. For now, we clearly see that any wise leader must understand this is not the time to wage another war. Best thing to do now is giving everyone a rest to recover from the battle fatigue before starting a new campaign. (Better not to actively wage another war at all. But if they really have to, give the soldiers a break first.)
As usual, Jon delivered his iconic “coming together” speech. Despite giving away his crown, he is still the true commander-in-chief. By the way, where was Dany? The Queen is not really familiar with “setting aside differences to fight and die together so that others might live”, hers are more about “will you kill my enemies in their iron suits and tear down their stone houses” or “bend the knee or die”. So Jon took the job, and he did it well.
It is our duty and honor to keep them alive in memory for those who come after us and those who come after them for as long as men draw breath.
Highlight: This war for the survival of mankind is a war worth fighting and dying for, because it ensures hope and a surviving chance for the future generations. (But the coming war for the Throne might not because it sacrifices lives for power.) Note that Sansa was always in the background during this part of Jon’s speech. –> Hint: They might very well be the ones that pass on these memories to the future generations. Having children of their own, perhaps?
The next scene was the banquet, where Dany legitimized Gendry to everyone’s surprise. There was tension in the Hall with several reaction shots before Dany finally revealed her offer to make him Lord Gendry Baratheon of Storm’s End.
Gif: gendry-aryas
Tyrion: And a Lord of Storm’s End who will be forever loyal to you.
Dany: See? You’re not the only one who’s clever.
Was Dany trying to gain an ally? Not necessarily. Gendry does not have yet any bannermen or wealth, so he is not of immediate use to her. What Dany wanted to show people was, she was a powerful Queen who was to fear, but she could grant mercy as she wished and make or break a Lord in just seconds. Pay attention to her word choice. She first highlighted to Gendry his father’s crimes to her family and herself to make him scared: “You are aware he took my family’s throne and tried to have me murdered?”. Then she showed everyone that she could be merciful if she wanted to, and she could grant one title and wealth at her will, “You are Lord Gendry Baratheon of Storm’s End, the lawful son of Robert Baratheon. Because that is what I have made you.”
If Dany really wanted to reward Gendry because of his contribution in the war, she would have highlighted the fact that he fought bravely and he was a great blacksmith who forged the weapons to fight the Dead, so he deserved this. No. She didn’t talk about his contribution at all. She made it clear to everyone, he became a Lord because she wanted to.
People in the background chanted: That’s easy, isn’t it?
If the Queen could easily do everything at her will, she could make a Lord and give wealth to him in seconds, then she can strip away titles and wealth in seconds too. What is more interesting was the exchanging look between Tyrion and Sansa thereafter, both did not seem to be excited with the Queen’s generousity at all. They both knew that the relationship between the Queen and the Lady of Winterfell was strained and tried to figure out what kind of underlying message Dany wanted to convey.
My interpretation: The Queen was sending a fair warning to the Lady of Winterfell. See how easily I reward Gendry, a bastard son of the man who stole the Throne from my family? You’d better behave, or I can strip you off your title and land as easily as I make a Lord out of him.
Gif: allons-ymrholmes
So very probably, Dany wanted to warn Sansa that the Queen could strip away her land and title at ease. But if she intends to do so, who would she grant Winterfell to? The possible candidates are Bran (the only living trueborn son of Ned) and Jon (the supposed bastard, if he stays silent about his parentage). Some of you might think that this is a very Tywinesque move that Dany could never think of. But I think this is very possible. Otherwise, Sansa and Tyrion would not have exchanged that suspiscious look.
Both Tyrion and Sansa were aware of Dany’s possible hidden agenda. Tyrion then did a bit of reality check with Bran. He was always curious about the crippled boy and his adventure, and now he wanted to test what the boy wanted. He praised Bran’s extensive knowledge and said that it would be useful as Lord of Winterfell. Arghh, but Sansa is currently the Lady of Winterfell, why did Tyrion give hint to Bran that he was the only trueborn son of Ned Stark and should be the Lord of Winterfell? I think Tyrion was trying to figure out the power dynamic within the Stark family and what each of them might want. Do they want power, or do they want something else? Bran made it clear to Tyrion that he didn’t really want to be the Lord of Winterfell anymore. (Maybe he did when he was a kid, but now he doesn’t.) Since Tyrion didn’t know about Jon’s parentage yet, so to his knowledge the contenders for Winterfell are only Jon and Sansa. In Tyrion’s eyes, Jon is clearly in Dany’s favor since he is her lover. If Dany legitimizes Jon and gives Winterfell to him, Sansa would be empty-handed. To certain extent, Tyrion cares for Sansa’s well-being, that’s why he approached Sansa and raised his concerns to her before he left.
- to be continued -
So now we’re Calling D&D sexists misogynists because we’re not going to get the ending we wanted!!!
Cersei is playing men like a fucking piano she’s using her fake pregnancy to get them to do what she wants( jamie prolly left brienne and went South to try to save her and their baby) euron would do anything for his future prince and tyrion dumbly believes that cersei can be trusted because of the supposed baby she’s expecting.
Sansa is the most powerfull person in the north she’s loved respected by the northerners lords and they even wanted her to be their queen because she’s absolutely brilliant at what she does , she outsmarted littlefuckingfinger killed ramsay the man who put her through hell( jon could have done it but he didn’t sansa did it herself like a Fucking G)
Arya stole the show in 8x03 she killed the Fucking night king who saw that one coming?! we all thought jon was going to kill TNK and we were Fucking wrong. She also had sex with gendry and then left him because being a lady isn’t for her she left him not the other way around.
Brienne won a fight against the hound and she’s now a knight
Dany’s been kicking men ass since seaon 2, jon gave up the north’ independence and now he’s giving up his birthright just to please her.
we also had margaery ollena catelyn…GOT writers are not misogynists if anything they’re feminists the women are the ones who run shit in westeros .
Has the best fucking writing I’ve ever seen if you know anything and I mean anything even if you haven’t read the books but just watched the show then you know how George R.R Martin is when it comes to writing which he helps in part with on the show.. “ they’ve ruined the show” like is anyone even watching? Honestly I feel like everyone’s just been skimming the fucking episodes because it’s a popular show but haven’t paid attention to shit! Whats wrong with Danny’s arch? She was a weak girl who hasn’t been taken seriously for the most part of the show and she proves them wrong but how does that then justify her as a proper ruler?? The more she loses the more mad she becomes and shes begins to get a tunnel vision but if you haven’t been following her or if your a human how would that not fuck someone up???? Every time she finds something borderline normal she becomes powerless and loses it to things beyond her control! She had armies of slaves she saved and watched them die in a battle for a man who could take it all from her if his truth surfaces! Oh and don get me started on the thing about the knight king and people being annoyed that he was killed easily like no he wasn’t?? They lost more than half of their army to him and he wasn’t even the real threat it was always Cersei and has always been cersi. How is that not amazing writing?? The whole time they had you thinking that the thing to end everything was the knight king, death itself, and it worked because you never looked at cerise and what she was truly all about. No matter the consequences she had to be in power or die she said it to ned stark! COME ON! How is that not perfect! And here you are on the fourth episode saying it’s all gone to hell and not watching anymore which is fine. Better off, if you didn’t understand it make no comment on it. If you actually had been watching the show you’d know that whoever wants power dies and those who don’t end up having to carry its weight. This show was beautifully written and anyone who try’s to argue can fucking fight me
I think their first kiss was sweet. He just went for it! It’s Brienne’s first time, of course it’s going to be a little awkward...that’s why I loved it! Brienne’s so cute!
GUYS, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK HAPPENS?!
Really: first of all this horrible kiss scene?! Where is this tenderness between them? Nik and Gwen played it as good as they could, but scenarists just should be burned.
And then, when Jaime left her alone. She begged him to stay, but he left. WHAT?! Is that our honorable Jaime Lannister, who returned to Harrenhall and jumped into the bear pit?! No, this is the Jaime Lannister I want to kill. He made my baby girl cry and I will never forgive it. I will if only Jaime will kill Cercei by himself!
I’m just so disappointed bc of this episode(including Missandey’s death). I really hope they’ll make things better in next two episodes, and we’ll forget about this one as a nightmare.
My bet is he’s going back to kill Cersei and if he survives that, then he’ll return to Brienne and become the man he was meant to be. Jamie doesn’t realize it yet, but Brienne accepts him despite what’s he’s done. It’s clear even after he left that she still loves him.
Honestly, it’s Game of Thrones. We weren’t going to get a HEA, and JB’s story doesn’t end in Episode Four. How many fics have I read where Jaime feels so unworthy of Brienne? That’s this Jaime.
And I love him.

Nope, I still think Jon is an idiot and an awful leader. For a military “genius,” who “cares” about his men, he sure as hell made another boneheaded mistake by not listening to Sansa, AGAIN, and sending out exhausted, recovering men on a long road journey in the cold where they will be expected to fight a battle where they’re outnumbered. And if his decision was to do that because he just wants to keep Dany happy, that doesn’t help his case.
And why do these people never consider there might be an ambush? Honestly, what do they think Cersei was doing all this time? Like wasn’t preparing? Didn’t Cersei destroy Dany’s fleet once before? I can’t take ANY talk about Jon or Dany being rulers simply because they’re so incompetent.
And they all but wrote in yellow highlighter, “Dany’s paranoid!”
I’m not sure I have much to say about this episode beyond that. I feel awful for Brienne. But not really surprised. I will admit the Bronn scene was pretty funny.
I do think Sophie Turner just brought it when Sansa was mourning Theon and I think Emilia Clarke did a nice job too. Varys was incredibly interesting to watch. I do believe he meant all those things he said about himself to Brienne, but I believe it’s a reason for killing her, not joining her. And obviously it’s about how he doesn’t deserve Brienne. Which he doesn’t.
So, I know you people love to rage, but there’s gotta be more at work here!
I think they know exactly what they’re doing. They know Martin’s endgame plans more than we do. Sure their writing has some flaws (every writer has flaws), but considering all the great scenes and characters this show has given us, I’m willing to suspend some of my disbelief for a fantasy series.
I can’t be the only person that likes the new BBC/PBS Les Miserables adaptation, can I?
The survival of Westeros is more important than the perceived race of the characters.
So I’m just sayin… they let all the Dothraki and 99% of The Unsullied die and like most of the main white people got to live.
