if the 118 is going into season 9 without a captain anyway i think they should let every character be captain for one episode. it could be so great. the return of nightmare captain han. ravi spending the entire episode terrified because he feels in no way qualified only to end up having a clipboard buck-esque ego trip at the very end. buck tries his best but every time he doesn't get to run headfirst into a fire he stands there looking like a dog left out in the rain like :( i cant believe all my friends are in mortal danger rn and I DONT GET TO JOIN :(((( eddie's actually kind of good at it but buck keeps getting so flustered by eddie ordering him around for Reasons He Cant Explain that he kind of forgets to do his job and then he gets so upset about not supporting eddie or whatever they have to call it quits. at the end hen is like well. i know i turned it down initially but i dont think theres anyone the department could possibly bring in with enough experience both as a firefighter and cultivator of our beautiful perfect codependent family dynamic so i will do the noble thing and step up (the entire thing was a scheme to make her realise this). btw bobby's alive for all of this he actually escaped the government lab in episode 1 but he's too busy sipping shirley temples on the beach with athena to get involved in any of it

911 sweetie you’re supposed to be a home cooked meal not tiny portions at a five star restaurant. Just because you’re on abc doesn’t mean the characters and their stories don’t matter. Stop with major disasters that go nowhere. We get it you have lots of money now. the worst thing is actually that they set up all the storylines to be so good. SO GOOD. henren adopting mara, madney dealing with pregnancy again, eddie finding joy through the fog of catholic guilt, buck trying and failing to deal with change. and we just got to see none of it be developed because tim decided on a whim to kill bobby and therefore waste four episodes dealing with that. i’m not even mad im just so disappointed

(9-1-1 conspiracy theorist voice) it's too bad, i loved the crock pot theory. i do think it's weird though how people took "it's 8 hours, not 7 hours and 45 minutes" to mean it would happen in season 8. when eddie only started in season 2. i just think it's interesting that if you're going by the logic of 8 hours = 8 seasons of letting buddie cook, that would mean season 9 of the show, not the back half of season 8

I really really hope this time next year we’re all like “wow I sure am glad they didn’t rush buddie canon at the very end of season 8, and they actually gave Eddie a real arc about it and we got to see buck deny his feelings even though Eddie is no longer straight which all led up to a mutual Feelings Realization and Mutual Pining from both of them and we really got to do a will they/wont they. remember how mad we were haha. good times”

I think my biggest annoyance about this episode is that it doesnt really feel like it’s a continuation of the previous one? At least when it comes to buck and eddie. Buck randomly asking for a transfer when the previous episode had him having that talk with pepa, his reunion with chris (symbolizing that he still has a family and that things arent as fractured as they seem) and ESPECIALLY that scene where he works together to end that fire with hen and chim symbolizing that they are still a team and that’s just… ignored? Buck suddenly doesnt give a shit about hen and chim? And i get it, he’s still grieving but then what the fuck was the purpose of 8x17 if it wasn’t him starting the ACTUAL healing process? Him randomly choosing to transfer is so… odd and out of place? And Eddie! What is the purpose of that talk he had with hen & karen where he slips out that LA is his home and that he’s worried about buck? What’s the purpose of showing us how happy he looks when he sees buck snd chris together again (showcasing that he knows his family is in LA?) All of this just for him to still seem to be eager to leave for Texas at the end of the emergency when it was such a great set up for him to realize he wants to stay and work with the people he cares about? Apparently since Chris didn’t even need any convincing to go back to LA?????? Was this weird dissonance between the two episodes and the character writing really just to set up chimney’s speech at the end (which mind u kenny killed but I’m really struggling to enjoy)??

Everybody just stop. Nobody is transferring out, and nobody is staying in Texas. This is our firehouse. This is the 118. And it's not just a number, it's us! You're right, Buck. Things are never gonna be the same again, because Cap is gone.

And leaving won't change that. It won't make you feel less, it just means you'll be sad all alone. Bobby died so that I could live, and it has screwed me up in ways I cannot fully express. But the truth is, he would have done that for any one of us.

You see, he knew that just coming in to work every day, there is a chance that one, or more of us would not make it home. And his job above everything else was to make sure that we did. And we are all standing here right now because of him!
