I was high off my ass last night and had this dream where I was in this dense ass forest and sitting there was a tall woman. She was so tall I couldn’t see her face but she was wearing gold and I was like ā€œuh…hi?ā€ And she said ā€œI made you, do you know that?ā€ And I nodded and she was like ā€œI hear your thoughts. Why do you hate my creation? Why do you try to destroy yourself? I made you perfect as you are. Please don’t break my heartā€. Then she started crying and it flooded and I woke up with fucking heart palpitations like what does it Meanā„¢ļø????

"I shouldn't lose myself again." she said. "Just to be loved by someone else."

Where's your identity? // ma.c.a

Imagine the bat kids all living together. But instead of the manor, they all share the same Gotham City apartment.

Like, they all collectively decided that they didn’t want to rely on Bruce’s money anymore so they rent out a penthouse apartment. (Everyone contributes but let’s be real, most of the money is from trust-fund baby Timothy Jackson Drake).

It’s nice, but certainly not Wayne Manor. It’s spacious, but not too much for 7 (+Damian who sleeps over when he fights with Bruce) adult vigilantes. The place has four bedrooms, one of which is used as an arsenal/costume storage room. Which, consequently, means that sharing rooms is a necessity.

So:

Dick and Jason

Barbara, Cassandra, and Stephanie

And Tim and Duke are the room set ups.

But just imagine the possibilities.

Sunday dinners consisting of various takeout joints that always devolve into Bruce Wayne roasting sessions

Roommate / sibling bonding time

There’s a huge uproar in teasing when someone brings a friend/partner up to the apartment

Alfred calls regularly to see if the place hasn’t burned down

A chore scheduling wheel in the living room

Board game nights

Listening to pump up music together before patrol

Making Instagram and YouTube videos regularly in the house which are immensely popular

Using post it notes to spell out messages on the windows (ā€œFUCK THE JOKERā€ is a popular one)

Ugh I know this is my own AU but honestly it’s my favorite thing just let me have this DC

feel free to comment / add on! I’d love to see your guys’ takes!!

Oh to live in the Victorian era wearing an elaborately detailed dress that drags through the the flowers as I walk across an open field with a melancholy look on my gorgeous face

šŸŽƒ Samhain šŸŽƒ

Hi loves, hope you all are doing well!

Today we are going to be learning about Samhain, since we are now officially in the spooky scary time of the month!

What is Samhain?

Samhain is a festival of Celtic origin (Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland and France) and is also known as Celtic New Year's Day.

It marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, also called the 'darker half' of the year.

Traditionally, it is celebrated on October 31st at sunset and ends on November 1st sunset.

Samhain was the time when the doorways to the Otherworld opened (the veil between worlds becomes the thinnest), and this allowed supernatural beings and souls of the dead to come into our world.

Due to this, Samhain is known as a festival for the dead.

1- Hecate

1- Hecate

1- Hecate

Greek Titan of Witches, Witchcraft, Sorcery, and Crossroads.

When I first began this project, I knew that I wanted to end with Hecate. She is simultaneously the final and the first, our alpha and omega of Witchcraft. She dominates popular witch lore, but you would never know it as she resides in the shadows, side plots, and brief mentions. Only when you seek her out does she reveal herself to you, lighting your path while casting shadows and ghosts. Many, if not all, modern Witches, Pagans, and Wiccans see Hecate as a Goddess of Witches, amongst other appropriate attributes, and continue her worship and reverence now several thousand years ongoing.

As is the case with most of Greek Mythology, Hecate has multiple origin myths and genealogies. This is most likely the result of her originating outside of the Greeks, and being adapted and merged with the existing pantheon. Most traditions have Hecate as the daughter of the Titans Perses, titan of destruction, and Asteria, titan of falling stars and nocturnal prophecy. Hecate was their only child, and was able to retain her powers post Zeus’ coup as she helped him fight the Giants. As child of Asteria, her grandmother was the Titan of the Moon, Phoebe, and her cousin was Olympian lunar all-star Artemis.

There are various stories in which Hecate plays a part. Her most notable and appropriate for this time of year, however, is her integral role in assisting Demeter’s search for her beloved daughter, Persephone. Upon Persephone’s decent into Hades, Hecate, through the light of her torches, helped Demeter discover her daughter in the underworld. As such, Hecate has become a chthonic Goddess, and Persephone’s yearly attendant and psychopomp to the underworld. Her position as gatekeeper and guide to Hades solidifies many of her numerous attributes.

Hecate is associated with ghosts, necromancy, and magic. She is identified with crossroads, torches, and dark hounds. She was a common household deity for the Athenian—her shrines placed in doorways and city gates to both protect from restless spirits and bestow blessings and safe passage. Her worship and cult was as extensive as her various attributes, with temples and shrines scattered across the Mediterranean. As a key figure in the Persephone saga, Hecate was integral in the ancient Eleusinian Mysteries, impacting secret societies and occult rituals to this day.

Out of all her characteristics, her association with the crossroads is perhaps the most pertinent to my series. Most often, we think of crossroads as the intersection of two roads, yielding four directions. This was not always the case, however, as it was more common to have a proverbial ā€˜fork in the road’, yielding three directions. This is the kind of crossroads in which Hecate resides. Her statues depict her in triplicity, forearms outstretched, holding torches, keys, serpents, daggers, etc. One face in each direction, Hecate is the arbiter of passages, and in this way is the consort of the God Hermes.

Hecate is one of the original Triple Goddesses of Witchcraft, if not the primordial one. Her triplicity has defined much of Modern Pagan theology, with her stance representing the three phases of the moon, Waxing, Full, and Waning (Maiden, Mother, Crone respectively). Her mythological genealogy as the granddaughter of Phoebe and cousin to Artemis has yielded Hecate as a Goddess of the Moon in her own right, most often known as the unseen phase of the moon, the New Moon (however she is just as often associated with all moon phases). In Greek/Roman Mythology, Hecate joins many lunar goddesses in addition to Phoebe and Artemis, including Selene and Diana. The five were often conflated, confused, and worshiped both in tandem and in conflict. This ever shifting, impossible to pin down, lunar association echos her transient nature of existing in the shadows.

Hecate is both mysterious and severe. Her face is hidden behind her torches, or on the dark side of the moon, however her presence is a constant. She is life, death, and rebirth. She is both light and dark magic. She was beloved in her association with rites of passage like childbirth, and feared in her role as Queen of Shades, present at the final rite of passage, death. Her nature has permeated my entire series in such a profound and indescribable way, I can only show you:

#93: Lilith— often worshiped by modern Pagans in tandem with Hecate #92: Circe: Daughter of Hecate #89, #54, #39: Bewitched: A common expression ā€œFor Hecate’s Sake!ā€ Occurs throughout the show. #79: Aradia: Daughter of Lucifer and Diana. Often seen as the daughter of an amalgamated Diana-Hecate. #70: Medea: Priestess of Hecate #67: Charmed: The Halliwell Sisters: Appears in the episode ā€œThe Wedding from Hellā€ #56: Ceridwen: Often worshiped in tandem with Hecate as Dark Mothers by modern Pagans. . #52, #27: Practical Magic: The necromancy ritual the Owen’s Sisters perform, albeit pronounced incorrectly. ā€œBlack as night, erase death from our sight. White as light, Mighty Hecate make it right.ā€ #10: Willow Rosenberg: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Mentioned in several episodes and referred to as ā€œQueen and Protectress of Witches.ā€ #7: American Horror Story: Coven: Supreme Fiona Goode invokes Hecate ā€œCome to me Hecate, Mother of Angels, Cosmic World Soul.ā€ #5: The Weird Sisters: Macbeth: Hecate is their master

This list is pretty fitting for a Goddess whose name etymologically may mean ā€œshe that operates from afar.ā€ She is seldom a central figure or even visible, however witches from the Owens to the Goodes, from Willow Rosenberg to Endora, invoke her name and ask for her spirit, guidance, and presence. Hecate, in many ways, is both the first witch, and the last. She is our alpha and omega. She is the embodiment of power and strength. As a Goddess of Witchcraft, she does not merely exist in the margins of society like the rest of us—She is the margin itself.

Hail Hecate.

ā€œHecate, Cerridwen. Dark Mother take us in. Hecate, Cerridwen. Let us be reborn.ā€ Ā

There are 3 brands of character songs, any song you associate with a character will fit one or more of these categories:

1. The lyrics fit

2. The song just carries those Character Vibes, often times inexplicably, regardless of lyrics

3. You really liked that song at the same time you liked the character

These are the facts

Know what I’m salty about?

In all my art classes, I was never taught HOW to use the various tools of art.

Like yes, form, and shape and space and color theory and figure drawing is important, but so is KNOWING what different tools do.

I’m 29 and I JUST learned this past month that India Ink is fucking waterproof when it dries. Why is this important? Because I can line something in India Ink and then go over it with watercolors. And that has CHANGED the ENTIRE way I art and the ease I can create with.

tldr: Art Teachers: teach your students what different tools do. PLEASE.

Simple spell pouches!

Spell pouches/bags are wonderful, and really fun to make–you can fill them with things to set a particular intention to carry with you, or supplies for a spell on the go. Here are a few I’ve made before, but these are so easy to come up with yourself–just research meanings of items, find ones that speak to you! These ones use mostly items which are very easy and cheap to come across, to make them more accessible to low budget or closet witches šŸ’•

storm’s coming

All you storm and weather witches listen up here, all of us secretly really get off on storms and that crackly energy in the air and the rumble of thunder and the flash of lightning and the wild feeling of freedom. So we don’t want to be caught off guard when a sudden storm arrives and we haven’t got all the jars out or we’re in the middle of something right?

Well, here’s an updated list on how to tell when a storm’s coming your way:

- read the clouds:Ā

cumulonimbus clouds - cumulonimbus clouds develop when cumulus clouds (pillowy, cotton wool-y, flat base) develop vertically or billow upwards. a cumulus cloud that turns into a cumulonimbus can develop into a powerful thunderstorm within an hour.

arcingĀ ā€œarcusā€ shelf clouds - these wedge-shaped clouds resemble a shelf, and can be described as rolling. these can also be a sign of foul weather incoming, especially if they’re turning darker.

cloud color - you may be thinkingĀ ā€œwell no shit Raven, dark clouds = stormy weatherā€, but well here’s dwelling into some specifics. Sure, very dark clouds mean the weather is going to turn stormy real quick, but did you know that green clouds mean severe weather? like those gray-greenish clouds that are very deep and tall? yeah those mean something big and mean is on its way. black clouds mean that there is a coming storm that does not have strong winds. brown clouds meanĀ that there is a coming storm that does have strong winds. gray clouds usually mean a new or a light storm. however, gray skies mean that the storm is affecting a large area and may remain for awhile ā€œred sky at night sailor’s delight, red sky in the morning sailors take warningā€ has some grain of truth to it too. red sky in the morning means bad weather is moving in.

- use your nose:

take a deep inhaleĀ - it’s true, you can smell incoming rain. ah, nothing like the sharp, strippingly fresh smell of ozone before a storm. there’s a whole science behind this, and I can cover how some chemical reaction caused by an electrical charge like lightning or a generator involving atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen molecules splitting, but that’s not the point here. the point is, you can smellĀ the ozone. sweet, pungent, a zing, sharp, bare, that’s my description for it. so get ready to use that nose of yours.

- halo around moon and sun:

high clouds will refract a ring of light around the moon or sun, a halo around the moon indicates that a warm front is approaching. like that sayingĀ ā€œring around the moon? rain real soonā€. I’m using a lot of sayings, huh. double halo around the moon could mean strong winds.Ā

- watch smoke from a fire

pressure determines which direction the smoke is gonna go. high pressure? smoke goes upwards. low pressure? smoke goes downwards. when smoke spirals downwards, bad weather’s on its way.

- humidity

now, I live in an area where humidity is at a constant high, so this probably won’t work for me and everyone else who lives in high-humidity regions. but here goes. high humidity precedes a storm, so check for signs of humidity like frizzy hair, curly leaves, swollen wood, or just feel it.

- count the stars

if you’re out at night, the stars could be an indicator. the more stars you see, the clearer the skies are. no stars mean heavy cloud coverage and couldĀ signify coming storms.

- observe the birds and the animals

birds -birds can sense bad weather coming and they usually fly low or seek refuge before a storm, and they’ll go quiet. that’s part of the reason why it’s so oddly quiet before a storm.

butterflies and bees - they will usually return to their homes before a storm for safety so you probably won’t see them out and about.Ā

adapted from my older (and jarringly slightly inaccurate) post on @sharpshootress. just as I posted this, a storm started right outside my window, how fitting.

Advice for the baby Hellenic Polytheists

I’ve got just about a year under my belt now, so I’m very much still a baby myself. But here’s a few things I wish I’d known, or think might be helpful.

Just make khernips with a match. No really. It’s the extinguishing of a flame in the water that makes it lustral. Don’t worry about the rest unless you really want to and have the time.

You don’t have to introduce yourself to any gods. They all want to be worshiped; just get to it.

We’re not as intimidating as you think we are. We just…read a lot. You can read a lot too. You’re welcome here. We’ll even help.

Books are expensive. Theoi.com’s library is free.

Statuary is nice. It is also wicked pricey. Here’s what you need on an altar: A bowl for offerings, a vessel for khernips (can be near the altar rather than on it)

Wine, olive oil, honey, water are pretty universal libations. You’re welcome.

Dispose of offerings however works for you. Just do it with respect, and you’re fine.Ā Oh but don’t consume offerings to cthonic (underground) deities, alright? That’s bad times.

The gods demand Arete. That is your personal best, not the best of the person next to you, or your mother, or somebody you idolize on tumblr. Do your best.

This is a religion of Kharis. When you ask the gods for something, give them something.Ā Then, do not forget the thank you. Offer again if you are granted what you asked for.

Our tumblr community is pretty great, but we also are sometimes wrong. Find sources, and for gods’ sake do not try to replace your studies with Tumblr. Read for yourself, learn for yourself, build your religion such that it best honors the gods and works for you.

If you’re like me, you’re constantly moaningĀ ā€œHow do you pronounce THAT?ā€. I know, friend, I know. Try a couple of these lessons on the ancient Greek alphabet.Ā It is NOT fool proof. It is an incredibly complex language, and pronouncing it ain’t easy. But boy it will help with those particularly tricky epithets.

Oaths are serious business. Gods are easy to fall in love with. Be careful. Be patient.Ā

Real life pagans are way, way nicer than the ones on the internet. Go find them.

There are exceptions to most rules. Most of those exceptions are Dionysos.

ā€œI don’t know what to sayā€Ā ā€œI don’t know how to write a hymnā€ We basically have a hymnal.Ā

No, ___ will not get jealous if you also worship ____. It’s a fear of us recovering monotheists, but I promise it does not apply to this religion. It’s kind of what POLYtheist means, and plus, most of our gods are related. Show the whole family some love.

ā€œWhat is [god name] like?ā€ They’re pretty fucking cool. Go find out for yourself, and bring gifts.

The gods know we are mortals, and that mortals make mistakes. Apologize. Bring gifts.
