I just can't get behind this mindset that adult women, some of whom are ultra-rich and educated, are victims of their own choices - such as walking around naked in public, or choosing to do some other degrading thing they weren't forced into (and were paid very well to do, hence why they did it.) Women are not pieces of hay floating helplessly hither and thither by whatever new "breeze" of influence comes upon them. Sometimes a woman making a bad choice is just a woman making a bad choice without any coersion, and she knows exactly what she's doing and why.

I don't care if you want to refrain from judging them for their decisions, but you should seriously question why you think they're not capable of consciously choosing them, or why you think those decisions can't be criticized for the standard they're upholding for other women. Because if you think women have no real agency, then feminism is pointless and you may as well let the men (the people you DO think can make decisions and who you hold responsible for them) do your thinking for you.

Everytime a new form of media or tool gets presented, everyone has this idea that we've "fallen" from the previous intellectually "pure" era, I had teachers that would complain about our access to Google because we should all go to the library. The culprit always shifts tv made people dumb, google,video games, YouTube, tiktok, chat gpt etc. Every few years someone is like *this* is the moment intellect died and *this* is the tool/media to blame.

A lot of this discourse assumes there are tons of people who engaged critically with every task, and then chatgpt ate their brain 😔 The truth is most people are just trying to get the task out of the way and move on to watching tiktok or a livestream for 5 hours. My dad was the only one who on his street that went to the library when he was growing up, his mates would listen to the radio enjoying the shade under a mango tree. Did the shade and radio give them a lobotomy that stopped them from wanting to read books? I'm confused.

The doors have never been more open JSTOR is right there, we are drowning in free pdfs, there are documentaries everywhere. You can get free courses and resources from the top universities in the world, there are full university level courses on youtube for free.
