About three years ago, I was in the biggest reading slump. It was so bad that it had gotten to the point where I couldn't even read one sentence without picking up my phone to doom-scroll. At that point, I genuinely thought I could never ever get into reading again.
However, when I started romanticising my reading, I was able to finish a whole book in just one week. By romanticising my reading, it was no longer a chore, instead, it felt like an enjoyable experience where I could get lost in the emotions of the story.
────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ───────
"How do you even romanticise reading?"
pick something short and easy to read - a short story, a poetry collection, a graphic novel, an old favourite or comfort read
judge a book by its cover and pick something with a cover-art that interests you
pick something that matches your mood/feeling, here are some of my recommendations: want something gothic and eerie, filled with old secrets? We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson want something bittersweet and nostalgic with heartache? Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi want something empowering and thought-provoking? And Still I Rise by Maya Angelou want something whimsical and soft, filled with dreamy illustrations? Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel by Mariah Marsden, illustrated by Brenna Thummler
replace your main lights for ambient lighting - fairy lights, candles, salt lamps, mushroom lamps, warm coloured LEDs
turn on some background music to build atmosphere for your book - 90s jazz for classic books, orchestral music for fantasy books
have a drink or snack that you love - I recommend an iced mocha or matcha for summers, and hot chocolate or green tea for winters
sit somewhere comfortable or somewhere that builds atmosphere - I have my bed next to my window which means it's comfortable when I read and I can also hear the crickets during summer nights
use coloured pens or markers to highlight or underline your favourite quotes, and you can even assign different colours to different emotions
stick custom bookmarks or themed stickers to mark meaningful chapters or sections
start a collection jar with paper notes of your favourite quotes that you can read at the end of the year - you can write down the page, chapter, and book so you can always go back to where these quotes came from
jot down your current thoughts and feelings about certain chapters and sections so you can revisit the book in the future to see how your thoughts and interpretations have evolved over time - I like to date these annotations so I know exactly when I wrote my annotations
Remember that progress is still progress, even if it's small 🧸
hi angels! it’s finally here… SPRING!! my most favourite season, the suns slowly emerging out the sky, blossoms forming and the days are feeling slowly but surely longer. winter always sticks around just that bit tooooo long for me so to keep my mood and energy up here’s a little guide to romanticising spring now that it’s finally arrived!
wear colours. fill your wardrobe with colours, wear a floral pattern or a brightly coloured pair of socks, be the colour that’s slowly beginning to emerge back into the world.
make a spring playlist and listen to it every morning while you get ready for the day.
try out a lighter, spring like perfume. my favourite at the moment is a beautiful vanilla scent.
eat fresh fruits and vegetables. as more come back into season, fill your plate with colour and abundance. feed your soul, stomach and eyes!
spend time outdoors every day. make it a non negotiable for yourself that you spend time outside, even if it’s only a few minutes, get sun and fresh air on your skin.
make a pinterest board full of outfits, activities, food and anything that encapsulates spring for you.
go through your belongings and donate any you don’t need to charity, spread some kindness and give back to your community.
host a picnic with friends, family or yourself! make lavender lemonade or another floral drink, bake a cake (however messy it turns out) and find a beautiful spot.
read poetry that reminds you of spring, i love mary oliver for this time of year!
find beautiful leaves and petals and press them dry to have as keepsakes.
spend too long making an elaborate drink for yourself. my spring favourite has to be an iced raspberry matcha - tart and pretty.
find a softer, spring makeup routine. think lots of blush and pale eyeshadows for a delicate, floral look.
make your own herbal teas - my favourite recipe is 1tsp each of chamomile, jasmine, dandelion root and peppermint!
wake up to watch the sunrise, open your windows wide, breathe in the cool morning air and calm your mind and body with some light yoga or meditation. let yourself be in the moment.
try some spring journal prompts (will have a post on this coming soon) in a cute journal.
switch oatmeal bowls out for yogurt bowls (my current obsession).
surround yourself with spring media, watch spring films and listen to spring music and read spring books.
go on a cute solo date - i love going to a cafe to read but you could do so many things, go pottery painting or on a walk or to the cinema!
have a deep and thorough spring clean, clear out your space and prepare for a new season.
make a spring bucket list (would be happy to share mine if you’re interested!).
thank you for reading angels! have the most magical, romantic spring ever. take the opportunity to cherish this moment and appreciate how wonderful you are for surviving another winter.
love, m.
Totally 💕
a guide to looking effortlessly perfect
"You’ve got the false narrative of a girl who spends 30 seconds on her appearance, when, in fact, you probably spent hours.”
1. basic hygiene:
having clean teeth and good breath
smelling good 24/7. i highly recommend finding a signature scent as a scent is associated with memory, id suggest something sweet yet not too overpowering like vanilla.
being clean in general. regularly shaving and exfoliating your skin to get rid of bodily hair and dirt that accumulates on your skin to make your skin glow.
clean nails. having clean and maintained nails (with a simple design if you wish) looks better than having acrylics that are wayyy too long and appear tacky.
2. hair :
having smooth healthy hair looks much better than dry and damaged hair. take care of your hair by finding the best products for your natural hair. get rid of your split ends as they make the hair appear really damaged.
in my opinion, loose waves look the most effortless yet pretty. but don’t ruin your natural hair by applying too much heat! you can try heatless styling methods to achieve this look.
3. diet and exercise :
being toned is the way to go to fit this aesthetic
avoid oily foods or sugary foods that damage your skin. don’t completely get rid of these as we all have our cravings, but try your best to avoid it
find a workout plan that works best for you, keeps you healthy but doesn’t burn you out! moreover exercise releases endorphins that improve your mood.
4. makeup and skin care :
natural makeup on clear skin fits this effortless aesthetic perfectly!
take care of your skin by finding a routine that fits you the best, consult with a dermatologist for the best results.
having smooth, blended makeup creates an illusion that you aren’t wearing any at all! this appears much effortless than a full face. also try to avoid those really huge false lashes that make you look tacky.
maintain your eyebrows and find a shape that fits you best!
5. outfits :
having a signature style which suits your body type is essential. experiment until you can find what suits you best! you can use a body analysis app for this.
wearing outfits you’re confident in, hot but not too revealing goes a long way. confidence is key. wearing overly revealing clothing might seem like one is trying too hard, but if you can carry it with confidence then that’s great!
jewellery : having dainty, signature pieces is key! find out which suits you better (gold or silver) through an ai analysis and invest in timeless pieces. personally, i think minimalistic pieces such as solitaires, simple pendants, classic hoops etc. look much more effortless.
6. personality :
don’t be too judgemental towards anyone as you don’t know what they’re going through and this makes you seem unapproachable
don’t talk too much or overshare! this creates a mysterious aura which draws people to you more
confidence is key! posture is very important too, carry yourself with confidence and walk with your head held up high.
7. examples and references :
serena van der woodsen (gossip girl)
mia thermopolis (the princess diaries)
cher (clueless)
elle woods (legally blonde)
rory gilmore (gilmore girls)
robib scherbatsky (how i met your mother)
gigi hadid
UMMMM did i just catch you making decisions based on a MAN?? i better not have. stand up girl, thats not it.
Socialite In Training 🦋
Go out to dinner at least once a week. Try places you’ve never been before. Make an effort to hit up as many places in your city as you can so that you will always have good recommendations for people, reviews on what’s good and what’s bad, and get to know different areas better. Obviously don’t go broke doing this. Just try to dine out as often as financially feasible for you. Be friendly with the staff and make an impression on them and trust me, the special treatment will quickly come once you become a regular.
Always dress tf up. No matter if you’re walking your dog, grocery shopping, getting your nails done, depositing a check at the bank, or making a dentist appointment. Always look cute. This doesn’t mean you need to bust out a ball gown, but make sure your clothes look good, hair is done, accessories are on, and your personal style shines bright. Don’t just put on items. Give the girls a Look.
Take multiple vacations a year. At least one should be by plane to your location of choice but if you don’t have the budget to do several far away trips per year, fill up your calendar with staycations at hotels that offer activities, resorts, spend a few days staying with some friends who are out of state, and any other getaway that appeals to you. A 2 day trip to a city that’s just a few hours drive from your house can absolutely be an amazing vacation. I do it all the time!
Expand your social circle and actually make plans with them. A trip to the nail salon with one, a joint grocery shopping trip with another, lunch at that cool place you’ve been frequenting with the third. Be a social butterfly. Make memories with people, even if they are just casual outings. If you meet someone and hit it off, text them! Make a plan to hang out and do something.
Be the flashiest and most authentic version of you. Buy the things you like and wear them with showstopping confidence. Use the phrases and slang words you like. Don’t be shy to listen to the music that is your guilty pleasure or watch your favorite shows that no one else seems to care about. Embrace every part of you and wear it proudly.
Go to all of the cool events in your area. Restaurant openings, new store openings, promotional events, community gatherings etc etc. Try to always keep fun events on your horizon. Plus it’ll give you more chances to wear those cute outfits you feel too shy to wear on a normal day just bopping around target. Those leather pants and strappy heels aren’t gonna wear themself!

Spring break it's like so short, but we still have to work on it, not to say it, but my First glow up happened during spring break and I'm telling you, boy if it did take a turn-
But it's not time for a juicy gossipy storytime , it's time to show you girls how to shine after the winter blues and start working for your summer self!
୨୧life୨୧
Let's start with life! How do you want your life to be from now? Try to think about a movie type of life, for this task you need a journal(a simple notebook can do it) , your phone and (optional) a pair of headphones and earphones, we're going to start manifesting by listening to subliminals and writing into your diary like you're living that main character life.
What you write doesn't need to be one of those delusional diary entries, but make your boring life sound epic by describing everything in details and giving it a dramatic turn, use your feelings!
୨୧workout୨୧
Ofc this has to be on the list, for workouts I suggest you rope jumping(works like wonder), pilates, Cycling at home(elle Woods type of way) and yoga for when you have little time and are stressed. Since spring is here you might as well take advantage of this, go for a walkkk, walking will be extra pretty with all the flowers blooming
୨୧beauty୨୧
What I mean for beauty it's becoming pretty to yourself without focusing too much on other people's ideal, focus in what makes you feel good, maybe you like flowers, then get flower nails, hair clips, tops etc… you might like the Shoujo aesthetic or the acubi or mcbling or y2k, it doesn’t matter add what you like to your overall aesthetic.
୨୧skincare୨୧
Stay Basic, you don't need that extra complicated skincare, just sunscreen, moisturizer, hydrating cream and a good cleanser
୨୧diet୨୧
Try to consume for fruits and veggies as the season comes up! And drink plenty of water, which also benefits your skin, also make sure to incorporate fibres and proteins
୨୧make up୨୧
Try new lip combos and maybe for creative looks like flower or butterfly make up, use make up as a for of expression! Bit if you want to use it for your physical appearance, just use blush, highlighter and clear mascara!
୨୧wardrobe୨୧
Time for shopping, crop top season it's back so invest into crop tops and light dresses, if you’re a more comfy girly girl, invest in a light pair of pants, in Italian we say “pantaloni in lino”, a very good and light material, spring long sleeves and baby doll tops.
୨୧mindset୨୧
“I don’t care…you’re you I am me” - jang wonyoung “be better or stay bitter” - thewizardliz start adopting this mindsets, there are a lot of videos on it, I also suggest you to watch TikTok’s compilations for motivation, this is a great time to shadow work and integrate new habits
