I LOVE THE MANED RAT ALSO KNOWN AS THE AFRICAN CRESTED RAT
they have a bald spot much like myself
hey how come I'm autistically obsessed with strange animals but missed the entire existence of maned rats?????
They part the hair down their sides as a threat display, exposing special hollow spongy hairs that they soak with deadly poison ??????

predators are more conflict-averse than prey - a herbivore can get into a territorial dispute, get gored by a horn, and spend the next while weakened but still easily able to regain its strength from grass and tubers or whatever. a hunter that gets scratched by prey it still manages to kill might not be able to get a kill afterwards, and slowly starve. an ambush predator will back down if you stare at it, but a plant-eater will try to kick you to death.
Why do men have nipples?
it's not just human men, it's all placental mammals!
pour one out for all of the "I found this weird lump on my male cat's chest, what is it" posts on r/cats
the short answer is: because it's easier.
so, natural selection is lazy. it tends to take the quickest and easiest path to any given solution and can only work with what it already has, so it's really reluctant to drop traits that aren't actually hurting anything by being around! like male nipples.
and since male and female mammals in general start as the same weird little flesh tadpole thing and only start to diverge a couple months into development, it's waaaay easier to just leave male mammals with mostly non-functional nipples than it is to patch them out and maybe bork up something with the female nipples by mistake.
tldr: it's because evolution is naturally lazy.
gotta fight them inner demons, baby
Asiatic Brush-tailed Porcupine (Atherurus macrourus)
(Photo in public domain)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Southern Asia
Size (Weight/Length)- 80 cm
Diet- Leaves; Bark; Fruits; Flowers; Roots; Nuts; Seeds
Cool Facts- The Asiatic brush-tailed porcupine loves the tropics, sticking to bamboo and palm forests. They find themselves at home in thick underbrush where burrows keep them safe. Multiple Asiatic brush-tailed porcupines can end up living in the same burrow system, working together to defend their home from predators. They are generally nocturnal and spend only a few hours each night outside of their burrow. When encountering a predator, these porcupines can run as fast backwards as they can forwards. This results in a leopard or human being embedded with hundreds of quills.
Rating- 12/10 (The rarest porcupines of South Asia.)
