AU crossover between SVSSS and SWTOR.

The first time Cipher Nine hears “onomatophobia” after he gets handed to the Republic, instead of losing control of his body he wakes up his memories as Shen Jiu. Shen Jiu, complete with cultivation. No idea where I’d go with that. Bingge has to be still obsessively trying to capture him, of course. But I’m soft for them so it’s gotta end up with them together and not *too* badly traumatized. Maybe they can have a bit of therapy, as a treat. I don’t even know who I’d slip Bingge in as. I have no intention of coming back to this concept but I needed to throw it out of my head.

Reposting so I don’t lose this before I manage to unhinge my jaw and swallow the knowledge whole.

A Chinese Bestiary by Richard E. Strassberg

A nice if incomplete translation of the Classics of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing) that focuses on the creatures. It goes into considerable detail and background, unlike Anne Birell’s direct translation. It does not, however, translate the numerous sections listing mountains with no creatures.

It has maps and fully listed names of all the wards and Imperial City interior buildings, and even a compiled list of known inhabitants of the city as well as which wards they were reportedly living in.

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.
